With a game plan in place for a cut off date, when this unexpected trip to Newmarket suddenly came up, things changed. As a way of our not feeling the pinch so much and keeping on the good side of the company I agreed to start my shift earlier, so they could work on the welded Feedscrews in my absence.
Having mounted a Unit in the PTA before the end of yesterday’s shift helped with today’s accomplishments. After getting the Burners going and doing the other necessary prep work, I was able to hit the “Begin to Weld” button by 7:05 this morning. Strangely, nobody came by to say hello. The fact that the sweat was already running down my back at that early hour, might have had something to do with it. By 11:30 the first Screw found itself buried in the Sandbox.
Since the day was far from over and there was a smaller Feedscrew that was already channelled, waiting to be welded, I loaded it into the Plasma Transfer Arc. Being that it was only Three Inches in diameter, I calculated that it could be finished in just over Two Hours. That worked well until the Argon Cylinder went Empty. I had told Mile the Argon Tanks were Empty the other day and Cylinders don’t last long. After changing it, a second time, there were Two Feedscrews in the Sandbox.
A Six Inch Diameter Feedscrew was then loaded in the PTA, but it won’t be started until the morning. If the Cylinders we have left go empty, our driver will be taking a quick trip to the Welding Supply Shop.
We heard a Semi pull in as we were heading to change for the day. As we were leaving another Twenty Foot Six Inch Diameter Shaft was being unloaded for us to transform.
It didn’t take long to get home considering all the Detours I had to take. Having called Kathy when I was on my way, had her waiting by the Front Entrance when I arrived. Minutes later we were back on the road heading to the Tire Shop, to pick up the Car with its New Shoes. Not only were we surprised, but so were the folks at the Shop, that the old Tires were original equipment. At least now we feel safe to travel to Newmarket this week.
