Experimenting and Big Truck

Even though Alec and I had mounted the 10 Inch Feedscrew in the Plasma Transfer Arc Welding Machine yesterday and I started the preheat on it at 7:00 this morning it would take the entire day to build the Bearing Face to the needed size.

This was also an experiment of sorts and by combining my years of Welding Knowledge and Alec’s ability to run this machine we were doing things differently.

There have been problems lately with Pinholes, Undercuts and Cracks developing in these areas. Today we added Fifty Thousandths of an Inch in Overlap, along with more Amperage to dig into the parent metal and we also programmed a Slower Arc Shutdown that would eliminate a welding pock mark.

At the end of the shift it was again buried in the Sand next to the one we did yesterday. In Two Days they will be able to clean it on the OD Grinder and then we will know if our experiment has worked. We will also do the same to other Feedscrews and just keep our fingers crossed that they all come out perfectly.

It was past 4:00 when I punched out so I let Kathy know I was delayed. She was working on her Kitchen Project when she looked up to see something fly by our Balcony Door and land on our Balcony. Checking it out she found it to be damp Children’s Clothes on hangers. Even though it’s against the rules the woman upstairs was drying her kids clothes on her Balcony. When Kathy returned them she was told most of the Dryers were not working downstairs.

As I approached our building there was a Fire/Rescue Truck along with a Flatbed Tow-Truck blocking the road. There was no Police Cars or Ambulance around but there was a fairly New Mercedes Sports Car with a Utility Pole embedded in its front end.

After parking as I approached the building I saw Kathy outside. Someone had told her there was a Big Truck that had gotten in an Accident out front and she thought it was me. The Big Truck was the Tow-Truck there to clear the wreckage.

We had Veggie Wraps for supper along with Chocolate Cake and Strawberries for dessert.

The Weather Network showed that we felt like 88 F (31 C) this afternoon which was cooler than yesterday.

We are looking forward to the upcoming Long Weekend.

Making Flights and Chicken Gyros Parmigiana.

It actually felt good sleeping an extra Half Hour this morning after having gotten up early yesterday. As soon as I walked out the back door the forecasted light Rain started and continued the entire trip out.

Once at the Plant I was early enough to take my Coffee and the Print Out Copy of the operating guide for the Plasma Transfer Arc Welder to the lunchroom for more reading. That was more “Information Overload” all before the start of the shift. It will eventually be worth all the confusion.

I had the material for the next Feedscrew mounted in place with the Burners warming it to 800 F before Alec arrived. I had even found the Preprogrammed Specifications that control the actions of the Machine. Some of the measurements have to be changed due to the different lengths and their variables. (+.001/Inch.) When I brought it up for Alec to review there was only one calculation that would have applied an extra Half Inch of material that wasn’t needed. The Pre and Post Heat lasted the entire day until it was moved to the Sandbox for a slow cool.

If you recall I was welding early yesterday so that we could rebuild the Mixer Flights on a Feedscrew that Alec then had to build the Flights on. This morning Khalan ran it on the O.D. Grinder before it was sent to the C.N.C. Mill for the final cleaning. I’ve personally witnessed those too many times both the operators on their Cell Phones rather then paying attention to what the Machine is doing. I’ll have to repair the severe undercut that occurred so they can try again. (Personally I’d fire them for not doing their jobs the way they are supposed to and this is the Fifth Time just since I have been there.)

Notice the low Humidity
and moderate Wind Gusts.

The Weather Network showed that we felt like 90 F (32 C) this afternoon which did not help Kathy. She had taken her Cell Phone in to the Bell outlet at the Mall which put her in a bummer mood. She was on the verge of tears when I got home so there was only one thing to do.

We headed out for supper. We patronize fast food places a lot but I suggested we try a small restaurant not far away. It was called “Nick The Greek” and it’s been there longer then we’ve lived in the area. After reviewing everything on menu and remembering we don’t eat the way we used to we both ordered a Chicken Gyros Parmigianna. The taste was Heavenly. We also ordered a small French Fry to share. We shared some at the restaurant and still have a lot more to share here at home.

We walked over to the Dollarama where we picked up a few more supplies. A few I need for work like a Notebook so I can better remember how to run that Machine. We also picked up a few bottles of Brisk Lemon Tea Drink that has been helping us keep hydrated on these hot days.

When we came out it looked like it was about to Rain again but we made it home safe and dry. The outing was costly but seeing Kathy smile again priceless.
