Even though I had an appointment for 10:30 this morning I made certain that this would not be the day my body would choose to sleep in by setting the Alarm. By doing so seemed to send the message to my brain that woke me with time to spare. Our breakfast was Cereal as a way of filling myself but still eating healthy.
We
hadn’t gotten to the Computers yet when it sounded like
someone was tapping on the Windows. It was Mother Nature
and she was tapping so hard it sounded like a Fire Hose aimed
directly at the glass itself. That meant some extra planning to keep
things in my bag dry.You can see the Rain on the glass.
After remotely starting the Truck I used an old Raincoat to protect my Welding Shield and personal belongings while wearing my newer one. By the time I reached the rear exit the Rain had stopped.
This was my first time driving to this location but I chose to take a back road rather then the main arterial roads. That meant I missed stopping at a Dozen Traffic Lights which got me to my destination far earlier then expected.
I arrived more then Twenty Minutes early for a Job Interview. Escorted to the small Board Room the Father and Daughter had plenty of questions for me. The main type of welding they wanted me to perform I admitted to not having any clue as to how it was done but compared what I had read to be a cross between TIG and Spray Welding. I also noted that I’m also a fast learner. The Father stated that my assumptions were correct and invited me to come see what that type of work looked like.
He introduced me to Alec who was busy sitting down watching as the Robot built the hardened edge on the Screw. First I’ll explain that these Screws actually are used to move Automated Lines so the small ones are Five Inches in diameter where the larger ones are a Foot in diameter. This Robotic Welder was laying a bead of Hardened Material to make the Screw last longer. The Owner just stood watching as I was asking Alec questions about the theory behind that type of welding, the Powder Mix, Speed Adjustments, Pre and Post Heat. As I was about to leave an Hour and a Half later I was asked when I could start. Taking the time to get things organized and calls made I’ll start on Wednesday.
I didn’t mention that the Metal Turning Lathes all have 40 Foot Long beds. That is the length of our Trailer. There were Ten of those Lathes.
I waited until I was at my next destination to call Kathy to give her the news. This will be a far cry different then anything I have done in the past. There may be a few times where I might have to weld using the TIG or Arc Welding but after learning this new process I will have to sit and adjust the Robot while it does the work.
With all my Tools crammed into the Toolboxes at the moment I chose to get a few Plastic Ammo Boxes for my specialized equipment.
It was past noon when I walked into the Apartment. Kathy had been busy imitating the Tasmanian Devil while cleaning up by Vacuuming, Dusting and Scrubbing. She was happy for my getting hired.
We had Italian Wedding Soup for lunch along with a Yogurt Cup and a slice of Fruit Cake for dessert. (We stocked up last winter.)
We were just about to sit down to eat when another company I had recently applied to was calling to set up an Interview. That job would have been similar to my last former employer but it would have been an Hour Drive before and after work.
Around 4:00 we got hit with another hard Rainstorm to the point it looked foggy outside.
The Weather Network showed our Humidex felt like 109 F (43 C) this afternoon but is showing below average temperatures for tomorrow.
When it came time to make supper I worked making Veggie Wraps with what we had on hand. I slowed cooking the process down a bit which seemed to do a better job. Kathy cleaned up some locally grown Peaches for dessert.
While I was turning down the bed this evening I found our Tower Fan has stopped working. I’ll check it out tomorrow even though I was looking forward to shutting the Air Conditioner for a few days.
