Father’s Day Outting.

After having the RAF Ablation treatment, I mistakenly thought that I would then be Pain Free. Not quite! What would happen is the Pain in my Neck would slowly disappear for a while. When the Radio Frequency is added, it was so low that it was not felt. The Painful Part was when the Electrodes were inserted. They were guided with the use of an X-Ray Machine and if it was off by a smidgen, it had to be reset. A few of those times, I thought that I was about to pass out, even though the immediate area had been frozen. By bedtime that was completely worn off, so I took an Extra Strength Tylenol. Three Sleepless Hours later, I knew that I needed a ZzzQuil sleep aide and another Tylenol. I slept until this morning.

We enjoyed a breakfast Snack Bar and Yogurt, that held us past noon. With a Plan to go walking, the moment we left someone became very hungry. Our next stop was at Wendy’s where we had Chicken Nuggets, small Frosties and Seniors Soft Drinks for our lunch.

Back in the Car, we headed to the Riverfront Park at the foot of Pillette Avenue to walk along shore. The last time we were here, over a Month ago, the temperature was only 73 F (23 C) with Northwesterly Winds making it feel much colder. With this being the first official day of Summer, it felt exactly the same as it did in the Spring. Without any Jackets we only made it half the distance we did back then.

We drove a bit further west on Riverside Drive to another Park. This time we stayed in the Car, watching Freighters and Personal Watercraft plying the waters of the Detroit River. There were a number of Fathers teaching their Sons how to fish on Father’s Day, but with the Northwesterly Winds I didn’t see any catches being reeled in.

We headed back to the Apartment to warm up a bit. That only lasted for Thirty Minutes when Kathy started saying she wanted to see her mother’s house. Telling her that we saw it Six Times since April. Somewhere she heard that the house was moved to New LaSalle, not the old LaSalle. That term is strictly a Marketing Ploy to attract people to the growing housing and commercial expansion of the town.

When she started threatening to drive herself, I relented. When we drove past the old Windsor Crossing, she asked why we were there. On the other side of the Round-About there was the sign, welcoming everyone to the New LaSalle. The only people that could afford those homes, would be Business Owners or high paid Executives. I asked if she saw her Mother’s House but she said “No”. We drove through until we were on Malden Road before turning onto Sprucewood. A minute later we were standing in the driveway, just as her brother Danny rode up on his Bicycle. We stood there talking for nearly a Half Hour, before sharing Hugs and Handshakes we said “Good-Bye. Like every other time we were less than a Mile down the road when she said, That wasn’t her brother Danny”. We rode in silence the rest of the way home.

We had Perogies for supper with Cookies for dessert. We later watched “Sister Act” with Whoopi Goldberg.

I just looked out the window and things are not as dry as they were earlier. As a fact, we are forecasted to have Severe Thunderstorms, all night, morning and afternoon. I knew I should have brought our Kayak home.

We hope all the Fathers out there had a good day.

A Real Pain To Get Rid Of A Pain.

That was a pleasant night’s sleep that I would appreciate having every night. Though Kathy was about to start her day at 5:30, by simply telling her it was too early and she should go back to Bed seemed to work this time. She even put her CPAP Mask back on before joining me. In the end, I had a Twenty Minute head start on my day before she joined me.

After finishing our Coffees, Kathy went about getting ready for the day, while I took a shower. With an appointment later today, I wanted to be Squeaky Clean.

Lunch, was a prepackaged Caesar Salad. We had tried these before and now I remember why we started making our own.

Many of our readers will remember in July of 2023, Kathy was having AFIB problems and within a Week, we had to drive to Newmarket, Ontario so she could have a Cardiac Ablation. It is a minimally invasive procedure that creates tiny scars in heart tissue to block the erratic electrical signals causing an irregular heartbeat. It is performed by an Electrophysiologist, to help restore a normal rhythm, reducing symptoms and improved her overall quality of life. (Copied from the Internet) When we were growing up, that would have been called Science Fiction but today, it has multiple uses in the Medical Field.

Through the many years of working in the Welding trade, I have sustained many Neck Injuries, some of which I missed work to recover. It has gotten to the point where I have difficulty drinking, because I can’t tip my head back, nor could I turn my head to check for oncoming traffic. I actually had to turn my body to accomplish that task.

Back in April, I had an appointment at the Windsor Pain Care Clinic, where this Doctor used Medication to block certain Nerves. With the feedback I gave him, today he performed what is called a Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA). It is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that uses thermal energy (Heat) to selectively disable specific nerves. By creating a controlled lesion on the nerve, it safely blocks pain signals from reaching the brain. (Also copied from the Internet) This could give me up to Six Months of Pain Relief.

You are supposed to have someone to drive you home, but Kathy doubts her own driving at this point. I did have to sit for a short while to regain my balance even before heading for the Car. Like my Vertigo issues, the only way to traveling in a moving vehicle is to be in control. Somehow, the brain senses your hand movement and does not leave you feeling ill. With help of Medication, my issues can be controlled, but I know someone that it has not gone away since his teenage years and he is about to retire.

We stopped at Taco Bell where we shared a Chicken Quesadilla because the last time Kathy could only eat Half of her’s. Guess who inherited the other Half. Along with a couple of Soft Drinks, it was enough to balance our systems.

Arriving at the Apartment, we both felt like we could use a nap but resisted the temptation. Instead, we got caught up on E-Reading that we missed this morning. It was after 6:00 when I started making supper. This was a new twist on our Meat/Veggie Wraps. Instead of Bacon, today I diced up a Chicken Breast. I also used Frozen Vegetables instead of fresh. Once this bag is finished, we’ll be going back to fresh. The meal itself tasted wonderful.

I was starting to write the Blog when Kathy began reading an article to me. I was shocked when I was able to move my head freely with no Pain Restrictions. If this continues to work, I will have it done again if necessary. Other Bloggers we read, have been having this procedure done for years.

Kathy and I would like to wish all the Dads we know, or that follow our Blog, a Happy Fathers Day. Spend the day with the ones you Love.

Good Sleep, One Down and Where The Smoke Was.

After those restless nights of staring at the ceiling, there was no way I wanted to repeat that last night. Just as Kathy was about to go to Bed, I took my Nighttime Medications but this time I added the Extra Strength Tylenol before. By relieving the Pain before I tried to sleep, I only woke long enough to move from my Recliner to the Bed. The next time I woke up was to start my day.

I still let Kathy sleep in while I started my morning reading. This has been a strange week with Temperatures well below the norm for our area. We are usually in the upper Eighties F (Low Thirties C) but we have been hovering in the lower Seventies F (Low Twenties C). When Kathy came out to join me, she commented how well she slept last night.

When it comes to exercising, I have always been told that eating before would cause problems, so I tried it myself to know for certain, and the Doctors were right. Now it seems the same rule holds true for me when we go shopping or I have a simple job to do. Something as little as a snack for breakfast caused plenty of discomfort and bloating. We had Hotdog Wraps with a bit of Mustard for lunch, and the same thing started happening.

Running out of comfortable temperature days to work in, we headed back to Guardian Storage. We collected the Mail, before heading back to the Trailer. With Kathy’s help to position the Headboard Trim, I was able to start all the Screws but that was as far as I could go. I was using a cheap Dollar Store Screwdriver. Just the pressure of my turning the handle destroyed the Tip. What to do? What to do? Hey I still had my Professional Grade Tools in the Storage Unit. Kathy stayed in the Trailer for Security, while I retrieved the Tools I needed. Later when I no longer had the strength to turn the Screws in any further, I was able to use the Professional Feature these tools have. The Shanks are made of Hexagon Material that allowed me to use an Adjustable Wrench to drive the Screw to the depth I needed.

The next problem was being able to straighten my body and stand up again. With Kathy’s help and the Load Straps that were still in place, we even got the Mattress from the Kitchen and back on its base upstairs. By that time, we were both done.

We noticed the fuel prices had again dropped again today as we passed our favourite Gas Station.

We stopped at the Credit Union to deposit another Government Cheque, before driving to the nearby Michigan Diner for supper. We enjoyed Halibut Fish with Sweet Potato Fries for our meal.

We then rushed through the Zehr’s grocery store for only a select few food stocks, before finally heading home. We still needed our Two-Wheeled Folding Shopping-Cart to bring everything upstairs.

The Weather Guesser on the “6 o’clock Local News” guaranteed a nice Father’s Day for this area. Having looked a my Radar, Monday is not going to be nice. The Smoke we saw yesterday afternoon, was the result of Contractors repairing the roof of a Restaurant not far from the Dollarama that we frequent.

We later watched a few episodes of “Law and Order, Special Victims”.

We’ll be busy tomorrow.
