Fixes, Fryday’s and Flurries.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Even though the ground was White, the roads were clear and everyone was driving with caution, not like the other day.

The jobs today, were mostly done with the TIG Welder, especially those that are nearing completion. There was one however that needed rebuilding from Major Oops that the Machinists on the CNC Mill did. It would take Three Hours of concentrated Arc Welding (Stick) to repair that mistake.

One of the Touch-Ups brought me back to the early days of my career as a Welder. I was in the middle of a touch up when the Battery on my Automatic Welding Shield fizzled out. Since there was an old Standard Welding Shield by the PTA that has been there for years, I dusted it off and used that. Touch-Ups are tricky enough, but with a Standard Shield, very time consuming. Mile the Owner was so impressed that I finished it one way or another he vowed to carry replacement Batteries for me.

Even though Rush-Hour Traffic was thick it also moved fairly quickly. I was home minutes after 4:00 allowing me to clean up and be out the door soon after.

The roads were still clear and we arrived at the 594 Legion with the expectation of their Friday Night Fish Dinners. We knew something was up when there were barely any cars in the parking lot. The Notice on the door said the “Kitchen was closed for repairs until January 28th but the lounge was open. Sorry for the Inconvenience.”

With our appetites set on fish I remembered seeing a new place not far away. We headed to Fryday’s Fish and Chip (Not a Typo). They had quite the selection, were quick and comparably priced to most other places like that. Our meal was delicious and satisfying.

There was one little problem as we were eating and it wasn’t with our meal. It started Sxxwing and the Wind Gusts were making it hard for people to open the door.

When we left, we drove across the road to Princess Auto. My Plan was to get Batteries for my Welding Shield in case Mile could not find any. Their shelf was empty but their Computer said they had some. Unfortunately, they had not been unpacked from the day’s delivery so we left empty handed.

Walking outside it was a different atmosphere then when we went in. We were in the middle of another Sxxwstorm. Kathy suggested we head for home. Luckily the roads were still clear but visibility was greatly reduced.

We stopped at the Pioneer gas station closest to our location to top off the Car. We also lucked out that the price had dropped since this morning. It was funny how this evening we were reading Blogs talking of the high cost of Diesel in the US. Today it was down to $1.866/Litre. That works out to $7.063/US Gallon and it’s only expected to increase by the end of the month.

After dropping Kathy at the Front Entrance, I parked the Car and was nearly blown over by the Wind Gusts. It felt good to be inside but disturbing to hear our Balcony Railing rattling in the breeze.

We had Planned on doing our Grocery Shopping this evening, but being home safe is more important. We’ll try again tomorrow.

  1. Good thing you are not desperate and out of food to have to go shopping when the weather is nasty. Going to a restaurant for the fish and chips dinner is a great way to enjoy that meal as it is always so much work to deep-fry fish and chips at home.

  2. We have also had nasty weather in Texas but at least no Sxxx where we live. That is when I am grateful that I have a nine-month food and water stash even if my friends and family think I am nuts.
