On Hold and Lost Package Found.

For the second day in a row I woke feeling refreshed simply because I got up early on my day off, so I would sleep soundly on Sunday Night.

Even though it was cold when I went outside this morning it was nowhere near as cold as it had been forecasted. The gauge in the Truck showed it was 7 F (-14 C), but walking into the Plant the temperature was close to 50 F (10 C). Few buildings of that construction have adequate insulation.

First thing this morning Mile suggested I weld the one Feedscrew that was just put in the rack yesterday and save the repairs for afterwards. That meant that I needed to use the Burner to warm up not only the Screw but the inside temperature of the building as well.

It wasn’t a problem setting up since I had done its twin just last week. It was easy enough to bring the program up and simply verify the numbers were correct. Minutes after hitting the “Begin to Weld” button I noticed the Torch was not laying the bead the way it should. Checking the numbers and making adjustments wasn’t helping, so I hit the “Stop Weld” button. Being able to see the weld without being blinded by the Arc I realized that the Orifice on the Torch was plugged. This has happened to the Right Feed Tube a few times but this was a first for the Left Feed Tube. I got lucky when I used a Tip Cleaner to successfully open it up without having to remove the Orifice itself.

I then had to use the Hand Grinder to clean away the weld already put down before again restarting the procedure. It took Ninety Minutes to finish the weld before I again started the Post Heat with the Burners. As I was preparing the Sandbox for the Feedscrew, Vinnie the Engineer came by telling me the job had been put on “Hold”. At least this way my part is completed, and when they figure out what is going on it will be all to the Machinists.

The afternoon was filled with Touch-Ups.

When I spoke to Kathy at lunchtime she told me, she had stayed in to avoid the Frigid Temperatures. She asked me to pick up the Mail on the way home.

Setting Sun reflecting off the Trees and Building.

Stopping at Guardian Storage I was surprised when they said they had a package for us. Kathy had ordered supplies from Amazon. The Tracking showed they had been delivered on Sunday evening and put in the Mail Slot. The Office at Guardian Storage is only open through the week and there is no Mail Slot on their door. With Ice on the sidewalks this morning Yvette went out to the Salt Bin to take care of the hazard. Imagine her surprise when she opened the lid to find our package. Anyone that had seen that delivery could have easily snatched it up.

For supper we had Veggie Wraps using the Leftover Stir-Fry. We also enjoyed a Cherry Turnover for dessert.

According to the 6 o’clock Local News we might see temperatures above Freezing for the weekend.

Changing His Mind and 139.

Work today was all about getting things ready to be shipped, so I was swamped with Touch-Ups.

Someone was telling me the other day that you never second guess what Mile says. After just getting a Feedscrew set on the Inspection Bench for me to weld, Mile wanted it removed so another could be put ahead of it. I stopped the move and hand gestured to Mile it would be done in Five Minutes. He nodded his approval and walked away. The person who had told me that was standing there stunned. I was done in Three Minutes and the other Feedscrew was done in Ten Minutes. Mile was happy. Through the years I have learned never to argue with someone in charge, but simply explain why you are doing things differently and they normally will agree.

Before I retired it was not uncommon for a Dozen Jobs to show up at the Bench at nearly the same time. They were all parts for Production Machines that would not run without them. I would mentally prioritize the Machines, then jump from one to the other getting them all finished in little time.

Later in the afternoon the Pain from my Hernia had me nearly fall over. Mile was concerned and asked if something was wrong. He didn’t know until I explained. He told me to use the Stool but since it weighs nearly Sixty Pounds (No Joke, It’s Homemade) I said there were too many spots on the Screws and I had to keep moving. The next time I lifted my Welding Shield the Stool was inches from me.

Moments after I walked in the Apartment I was busy taking a shower. In less then Thirty Minutes we headed out the door. Our first stop was Wendy’s where we used a Coupon to lessen the cost of supper. What was different about this was we ate before my appointment rather then after.

We arrived with Five Minutes to spare for my appointment at Canadian Blood Services. That was all the time I needed to schedule my next donation date and fill out my Q-Pass. Kathy sat in the reception area reading her book, now that the Covid Restrictions have been lifted. Besides I didn’t want her getting cold sitting out in the Car in case I would be delayed. It was minutes after 6:00 when after making my 139th Blood Donation we were headed for home.

We caught the second part of the 6 o’clock Local News. They were very insistent of reminding everyone just how Cold the temperatures will be tomorrow morning. I’ll definitely be wearing my Parka.

Even though I really need to get back to the Gym, the pain I am experiencing from my Hernia at this time is holding me back. If it does subside, I will get back into Exercise Mode.

Another thing I noted that since I have been sleeping in on the Weekends to catch up on my sleep, I have been having difficulty sleeping on Sunday Nights making me very tired at work on Mondays. So, this morning when I naturally woke at 6:00 I figured that was the perfect time to start my day.

Not wanting to wake Kathy, I simply went on to my Computer. Looking outside it was surprising to see that it was Raining. Checking The Weather Network, it showed that Windsor was right at the Freezing Mark. Being on the Computer at that early hour is something I am no longer used to doing. Even though Mentally I was ready to start my day, my Eyes kept closing every so often.

When Kathy joined me at 8:00 we again had a Pastry and Coffee for breakfast before returning to the Computers. I managed to read a number of Blogs today, but I continued having a problem with my Eyes closing. Even though we were still at the Freezing Mark the Rain had changed to Flurries.

Lunch was Split Pea Soup with a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert.

The Clouds remained a constant the entire day. Later in the afternoon we went for a short drive to Arby’s. I need to boost my Red Blood Cells so a good way to do that is by eating Beef. Kathy enjoyed a Corn Beef on Rye Sandwich. I ordered a Two can dine for meals, where I gave Kathy the Soft Drink and French Fries. The second Sandwich will be in my Lunchbag for tomorrow.

Tomorrow won’t be too bad, but Tuesday Morning will feel like -18 F (-29 C) going in to work.

Good and Bad.

It felt wonderful to sleep in this morning and I didn’t Plan on going anywhere early. Even with the reduced hours at work, the commitment at being there every day takes its toll.

Breakfast was a Pastry and Coffees that we brought to the Computers. It was ironic that just the other day I was explaining to some of the Machinists at work that it can dip below the Freezing Mark at night in the Arizona desert. Having experienced it firsthand then reading it in the Blogs we follow was no surprise. What did surprise me was that the cold was reaching down into Mexico. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we will be again making that trek back to the Southwest in the near future.

Lunch was a combination of comfort and cleaning up. We had Chicken and Rice Soup along with Leftover Cantaloupe and Tuxedo Cake for dessert. The one warmed us up while the other made room in the Fridge. We did have another Coffee before heading out the door.

I mentioned how I was told that the Batteries for my Automatic Welding Shield were in the store but would be processed overnight. I did not want to arrive there later to find they had all been sold. We returned to Princess Auto only to find the Shelf still empty. The Shipper that would have processed them did not make it in because of the Sxxwstorm. Other Employees tried looking through everything that had been received unsuccessfully. They gave me a Discount since I wanted Two Packages of Five Batteries for $9.99 each and they will be sent directly to our Mailing Address by the end of the week.

That’s a good thing and a bad thing. Good that I saved money and don’t have to return to the store. Bad that I still need a Battery before the end of the week. We drove across the street to Canadian Tire where I was able to buy a single Battery for $10.99. I won’t be opening that package unless I need to.

After all that walking Kathy was feeling her sugar drop and needed something to eat. We went to A&W where she had a Chicken Wrap, and I had a Mozza Burger. Of course, we had a couple of Root Beers to go with that.

Feeling refreshed we stopped at Dollarama and Zehr’s grocery store to get the few groceries we needed. At our building we used our Folding Shopping Cart to bring all our purchases up to the Apartment, but we are now ready for whatever the weather will be.

The Sun making an appearance today.

The 6 o’clock Local News confirmed more White Landscaping on the way.

We enjoyed a couple of Hallmark Movies this evening. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.
