Whenever I shower at night I have a hard time to sleep because it seems to invigorate me so I was up just slightly early this morning so that I could take a shower to freshen up. We had Toasts for breakfast not knowing what time we would be having lunch. We also had time to do a quick peek at our Computers to see The Weather Network along with any messages we might have gotten. The big concern at the time were the 51 MPH (80 KMH) Wind Gusts we were experiencing at the time.
Heading out the door around 10:00 we only had a short drive to the church where Ray’s Funeral Mass would be taking place. We sat in the Car for nearly Ten Minutes until we were lined up for the procession that would get us to the Cemetery. Our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melissa managed to attend the service as well having driven in from Amherstburg at that early hour. Inside the Church it was again a mixture of some people wearing Masks while others did not.
It was past noon by the time the procession weaved its way across the city of Windsor to Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Since it had rained most of the night the young ladies that had worn High Healed Shoes at the church had changed into more suitable shoes for the soft earth. Even though the Wind had settled down considerably the dampness in the air was felt by everyone.
At the end of the ceremony everyone was invited for a luncheon at the Cabota Club. The luncheon was not served until 2:00 which meant that everyone was so hungry by that time most people overate. There was a Garden Salad, Penne, Broasted Chicken and Broasted Potatoes along with refreshments for everyone. There were several moments that the room grew nearly silent but the rest of the time stories regarding Ray were circulating causing rounds of laughter. It was a real “Celebration of his Life”.
Then a huge Dessert Table with every imaginable Italian Pastry appeared. For those of us that had shown any kind of restraint for the meal lost all control at that point. As people started saying their good byes they were encouraged to take home some of the Pastries in containers that were provided.
It was past 4:30 by the time we arrived back at the Apartment with the furthest thing on our minds being food. After watching the 6 o’clock Local News I suggested having Chicken Noodle Soup as a way of balancing our day’s intake. It worked great until Kathy served a couple of the Italian Pastry she had brought home for dessert.
The Weather Network showed we reached a high of 61 F (16 C) at 3:00 in the morning. By the time we were at the cemetery the temperature was only 45 F (7 C) with moderate Winds blowing.
This next week is going to get busy.
