Happy Thanksgiving, Ordering Parts and Organizing.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

First thing we’d like to do is hope that all our American Readers were able to enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving with Family or Friends. Even when times get tough there is always something we can give thanks for. We hope that we’ll be able to join in that Celebration in the not too distant future.

After exchanging a few pleasantries with Paul this morning the first thing I did was to fire up the ATV and drive it to the back corner of the Warehouse. I chose to do it then to avoid having to deal with the heavy flow of the Forklift Traffic as they move the stock from the Receiving to the Paint-Line then back to Shipping as a finished product.

As I started my Morning Walk Around I noticed water dripping onto the floor from one of the Pumps. A closer inspection showed there was a Crack in the Plastic Flange. When I first started working here I could not believe that Plastic Piping was being used throughout the Washer System. The advantage is that it does not corrode but if you over-tighten One Bolt before bringing the rest to the same torque it is easy to crack a Flange. This was one that I had not worked on so maybe it was just due to Age and Vibration from the Pump itself.

I was just about to move to the next Pump when Paul waved me over. There is an Alkaline Water Tank that is used in the system and even with the Valve closed at night for the last week Paul has found it empty every morning. His words were “You need to replace that Valve and the Big Valve on Number 2 Station tomorrow. I don’t trust anyone else here to do it right, Call our supplier for the Parts. Don’t think your Supervisor will do it.” That message said it all.

After completing my Morning Inspection I returned to both the Leaky Flange as well as the Leaky Valve. Both will need Fittings replaced but I have been noticing Fittings left all around the Plant and it’s not Paul or I doing it. I also noticed Boxes in the Warehouse labelled as Pipe Fittings. After gathering Fittings that I thought would do the trick I took them out to where the jobs would be to verify they would work.

I was returning to the Compound with my wares when the Line Workers started complaining about Water dripping down on them. The Overhead Drip Pan that has been in place since the early Nineties was leaking. It had over an Inch of water not draining down and was leaking through the Rusted out pan. After squeegeeing the Water off the Pan I used Window Putty to seal the holes as a temporary fix. A new piece will have to be welded in.

After finishing my First Break I called Windsor Factory Supply to order the Fittings to do the repairs needed. In case there was a problem they asked for a Call Back Number. Since I don’t carry my Cell Phone on the floor I gave them the Company Number. I went to let Paul know the parts were ordered but found out he was off running errands.

Back at the Compound a couple of Carriers needed a quick repair. Just as I finished the second one Kharen walked in staring at me. (If looks could kill I would not be writing this post.) Finally he tells me that Windsor Factory Supply needed to talk to me in the Office. They were just letting me know the Order would not be delivered until the morning.

While I sat having my lunch Paul returned and asked how things were going. Telling him Kharen’s reaction he just said “@#$% Him. He’s not doing his job”. I told him about all the fittings I had been gathering and putting in the Bins. He was happy I was making use of them.

After talking with Kathy I spent the rest of the shift organizing the Bins and getting stacks of Plastic Piping off the Compressor Room floor.

Since it had been Raining the entire day it wasn’t until I got home that I noticed just how nasty it looked outside. At 4:00 the Street Lights were coming on.

For supper we shared a Caesars Salad along with a Personal Sized Chicken and Vegetable Pie. For dessert we enjoyed a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie.

On the 6 o’clock Local News was preempted by a Football Game.

The Weather Network showed we had a high temperature today of 45 F (7 C) feeling like 43 F (6 C). Tonight will be the coldest night we’ve had this season with tomorrow’s high barely reaching the Freezing Mark.

Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment unless it personally attacks someone for their opinion or is Spam.

Be Safe and Enjoy!

  2. Rained here 2 days ago and we have plus temps the next few days... highly unusual in central AB at the end of November, for sure.
