Discrimination, Storm Heading Our Way and Garage Sale Mystery.

Our Location today is at Windsor, Ontario.

We both had good night’s sleep and were surprised when we looked out the Balcony Door this morning that we had only received a dusting on our vehicles overnight. By looking at The Weather Network we knew that it wasn’t spring just yet.

As I mentioned in other posts according to our Human Rights Laws in Canada employers are not allowed to Discriminate against hiring someone due to Eight different things and the one I’m focused on is Age. I’ve been applying for jobs in my trade then get a notification the employers are looking at my Resume. Days later I’m notified that the job is closed because someone has been hired. A few more days pass and the same job has been reposted.

Even though I have worked as a Welder Fabricator Fitter most of my career from 1998 to 2004 I was a Union Trainer. If any of you ever worked for large shops back in the post war era you might recall those were Male Dominated Work Forces. I started Twenty-Five years after the war ended but I still witnessed what was going on.

Getting involved with Union Committees had its perks some of them meant being sent for special training. Being on the Political Education Committee kept me busy during our Canadian Elections. I was also on the Education Committee which also gained me time off the floor and when you work around and with Liquid Metal every day you appreciate the change.

Even though Windsor was mostly a Unionized Town the local paper had a few Anti-Union Reporters that put everything the unions did as something negative. Another Union Member Kris and myself were given the assignment of escorting Two of those reporters showing them all the Charities we supported and others that were totally run by volunteer Union Members helping the underprivileged school children in the city. After Four Days of showing these reporters that Unions don’t only fight for the betterment of its Members but for their Communities as well. It took our pointing to them that they were members of a Union as well. It was nearly a month later that the Unions started getting Kudos for things they did for our Communities by those reporters.

After the Unions got permission from the Area School Boards Kris and I were also sent into local High Schools and Senior Elementary Classes where we taught them about Forced Child Labour in underdeveloped countries. After organizing a successful Rally at the City of Windsor’s Dieppe Park that was attended by all the City Schools Kris and I were given another assignment.

We were trained in Creating a Respectful Workplace. With the Company’s help we started training all the Union Members what the Canadian Human Rights Laws were that applied to the Workplace. Some of those Laws vary when it comes to a person’s home or being in public so we had to specify what we were teaching was about the Workplace. Our class sizes were about Twenty to Thirty at a time. There were a lot of stories related by those senior members that made the newer employees sit up and take notice. After training nearly Five Thousand Union Members we were noticing a big difference in the plants.

Today was a Holiday called Family Day in Canada. I applied for Two More Jobs but I’ll probably be contacting the Local Human Rights Offices tomorrow.

For lunch we kept it lite with a bowl of Italian Wedding Soup with Grapes, a Croissant and Yogurt Cup for dessert.

Even though we saw some milder Flurries early in the day they disappeared for a few hours this afternoon but the Wind started picking up to the point they were gusting up to 46 MPH. Good thing the Wind was coming from the front of the building.

For supper we had sauteed Salmon Fillets along with Celery Root and Tomatoes as sides then topping it off with an Applesauce Cup for dessert.

Because most Government Offices were closed today there was no Coronavirus reporting done on the 6 o’clock Local News. Their Weather Guesser warned us of the Big Storm heading our way that could bring between 15 cm (6”) to 25 cm (10”) of accumulation overnight with temperatures feeling well below the Zero Mark.

We watched another episode of Garage Sale Mysteries for tonight’s entertainment.

See the Wind Gusts.
It's supposed to get colder tonight.

We could hear the Plow cleaning the parking lot by then. We’ll see what Nature gives us tonight.

We're located right in the middle of this Radar shot.
There's a bigger cloud yet to come.
The Pink is Freezing Rain hitting Washington DC.

  1. I sincerely hope that the appropriate government agency can help you in your quest for employment.

Your weather leaves a lot to be desired now I understand why many Canadians like to spend their winters south of the border.

  2. The job market must be very bleak at the moment as the Corona Virus and the pandemic affected many companies. The picture of the radar shot sure was accurate. We got dumped on!

  4. Here in north Alabama it is 13 and snowing. Our pond is half frozen. Does not stop our ducks from their morning swim.

I was a Human Resource Professional for over 30 years. I laugh when I remember one instance. We need a Gold Seal boiler operator. A well qualified man applied and I hired him. He came to my office to complete his paperwork. When he left the owner asked me how old he was. Since it is illegal to ask prior to hire I then checked his post hire paperwork. He was EIGHTY TWO. And for the next 3 years he did a bang up job. Age doesn't matter, work ethic does.

  5. You just may be your own worst enemy with your blog. Companies routinely search the web for social media sites and learn more about you than any resume could ever provide. Skills are secondary, how you fit in with the rest of my team is primary.

  6. Terrible to train others to see and fight discrimination and you're still facing it. Good luck! Hope you like snow 😀 This has been a terrible winter to be stuck at home in. 😞

  7. Good to hear your work history and the union experience. Unions have been in the gunsights in the US for a long time. I do wish it weren't so!!
Meanwhile, wondering what Chris above meant about your blog hindering you. I can't recall anything you've said that would make you not fit into a team. Ah well. I'm old.
