Five Minutes.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

It was only slightly below the Freezing Mark this morning but as the day would progress it would continue to get colder.

After my Morning Walk Around I immediately started working on the Carriers. As I returned one pair to the Line I spotted others in need of TLC but as I was about to walk away with them the Line Workers started screaming they needed them. Even though they still had Two Racks of that particular Carrier it took Two Minutes to convince them that it would only take Five Minutes to repair them both.

Once that was over Kharen came to the Maintenance Compound where I was still sorting through what Fittings were salvageable and those heading for the trash. He actually asked me to do a Safety Check to be certain that all the EXIT Signs and Emergency Lights were in working order. He added checking the Tags on all the Fire Fighting Equipment to see that they were recently serviced.

I checked every Exit and Emergency Unit I saw making notes of any problems so they could be dealt with. He was surprised when he came around as I was actually replacing the Bulbs in one of the Exit Signs that I had found in the Compound. That got the 120 Volt side working but the 12 Volt side just would not flitch. I was surprised when I found newer units that were LED equipped that failed to work. Within the Hour he had a list of all the faulty units that needed attention.

When I spoke to Kathy while on my lunch we noted that we had both been under the weather the last couple of days. It could be we had been ill and not just tired as we suspected. I told her that if everything went well I should be home at my regular time.

I went back to cleaning up the Fittings and felt good that the shelves in the Compound and Compressor Room are really starting to look organized. I still had more to do when at 3:00 Ivan came in with the news that the Loading Dock that we fixed last weekend had once again jammed and it was Freezing outside.

The first thing I did was to call Kathy to say I would be delayed.

It was then a matter of bundling up under my Coveralls. Me with a Pry Bar and Ivan on the Forklift we headed to Shipping and Receiving. I had to clamp the Roll-Up Door partially open so we could work on the Dock outside. When Ivan started to lift the Ramp I noticed a Chain that seemed to be tight when it should not have been. Lowering the Ramp slightly I was able to unhook the Chain that was only supposed to hold a pin for the Safety Arm. As soon as I did that the Ramp started functioning the way it should. After Three Test Runs we headed back inside making the Shipping Clerk very happy that they were back in business.

By the time I washed up, got my Pay-Cheque and left I was only Five Minutes later then normal. Kathy was happy to hear the good news.

I picked up the Mail at Guardian Storage before going to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit where it took less then Five Minutes to find a Tool I might need tomorrow.

I thought that I was making good time as I headed to the Motor City Community Credit Union until I looked in the mirror. The Truck had just gone into Regen and was leaving a trail of White Smoke which is such an embarrassment. (This is supposed to fight pollution but I think this creates more pollution. Like the cure being worse then the problem.) I deposited my Cheque before telling Kathy I would be delayed then headed for the Expressway. I’ve learned the hard way that Highway Speed is the only way for the Diesel Particulate Filter to clean itself. I was home by 4:50.

Kathy made a Chopped Salad to go with an Open Faced Hot Beef Sandwich for our supper. Using a single slice of Bread left us room for Angel Food Cake topped with Mixed Berries.

The 6 o’clock Local News reported 270 New Coronavirus Cases for the Windsor/Essex Region along with Two more Deaths.

The Weather Network shows that tonight’s low will feel like -6 F (-21 C) and tomorrow’s high temperature 16 F (-9 C). I’m hoping we’ll stay warm at work.
