First Day, Long Walk and Extended Shift.

Our Location today is at Windsor, Ontario.

I’m surprised that I didn’t have any problem sleeping last night in anticipation of my first day on the job and easily woke when the Alarm went off. When we were travelling around as Snowbirds or as Fulltimers every time we needed to set the Alarm we barely got any sleep in anticipation of our travels or appointments.

Making a habit of setting things up the night before also makes getting dressed and having breakfast without waking Kathy much easier. There was a big problem though that was disappointing. After making certain the Truck would start yesterday by leaving it run for Thirty Minutes this morning it was having none of it. There was only one thing to do so that I would not be late for my first day on the job and that was to load my Tools in the Car. Trying a different route then I showed Kathy on Saturday took Ten Minutes off my drive.

With the plant door being open I brought my Tools close to my shop. Steve the Owner unlocked it and suggested I might want to do a little cleaning before I start. I mentioned the Mess I saw on Friday. That night I dreamed of cleaning that so he didn’t have to tell me. The former Welder had dumped all kinds of pieces all over the floor. Finding empty bins I sorted as I went. It also took multiple trips to the Garbage. That was only the start.

I had to repeat along the process on the Workbenches. Parts Hangers were Haphazardly tossed over all kinds of Tools and more pieces. There were all kinds of Weld all over the benches that had nothing attached to them and that would have cause Injuries to anyone that got snagged on them. I spent the next Three Hours grinding all that mess.

Blame the Camera for the bad focus
on the Book Exchange.

Kathy had a nicer day. She managed to get out for another walk around the neighbourhood with the intention of stopping at the Book Exchange she found the other day. Unfortunately she didn’t count her streets properly and ended up walking twice as far as she intended. The Book Exchange wasn’t as full as on Friday but she had enough choices to follow through with the switch.

The part of the Job I mention that I don’t like is that if there is a last minute Breakdown I have to stay until the repair is complete. I told Kathy before if supper was ready go ahead and eat while it was hot.

When I got back to the Apartment at 5:30 Kathy served me with Sauteed Potato Slices, Butter Sauteed Asparagus and a Salmon Filet for supper along with a Pecan Tart for dessert.

On the 6 o’clock Local News we learned there were 24 New Coronavirus Cases in the Windsor/Essex Region bringing the total Active Cases to 362.

The Bottom Number are what the temps will feel like.

Our high temperature today reached 75 F (24 C) and this is the weather we’ve got going into the upcoming May 24 Weekend.

After we both had wonderful Hot Showers to relax and later watched “Criminal Minds” for the evening.

Tomorrow will be a different story.

Me: “Very, very seriously.”

  1. Congratulations on your first day! Bill wouldn't mind the cleanup as he likes to make a space his own anyway. I hope you felt the same.
Good for Kathy getting out, it was a beautiful day for even an extended walk. Hope she found a good book. Supper waiting for you looks delicious!

  2. Being a shop foreman at one time, I know that welders often let their mess pile up on them.
Glad everything went ok for you.
