Checking The Big Tent, Boxed In and Roller Coaster Weather.

Our Location today is La Posa South L.T.V.A., Quartzsite, Arizona, U.S.A.

We had the alarm set for 7:30 MST this morning so we could have breakfast and be out the door for shortly after 8:00. Even though Kathy is not keen on being caught up among large crowds our intention was to join those gathered here in Quartzsite to visit the Big Tent.
Heading out of La Posa South.
Wishing we had gotten up just a little earlier after following other vehicles into the entrance marked RV Show we slowly wound our way past the already filled parking lot back into the Wash area where almost everyone was being parked. Even though this area hasn’t seen the rainfall they had last winter as soon as we made the turn into the loose gravel that is laid to absorb water the front of the Truck just sank right in. Knowing what to do I went out and locked the Front Hubs switched the Transmission to 4X4 Low and just drove to where I was first in the middle line.
Pulling in to the RV Show.
We stood outside the gate to the main event in comfortable 59 F (15 C) temperatures until the attendants allowed everyone in. There is not too much we really need so we basically were there looking. Some of the Vendors were selling things unrelated to RVing but they paid their fees so we wish them the best.
Everyone waiting for the tent to open.
We saw a few of our Friends at a distance but they didn’t see our waves. After making our way around the Tent for the second time we ran into Bill Richards from the blog On Our Way. We compared Symptoms of the illnesses we each had and he suggested the problem I was having with running the Propane Line was probably a Cross Member. Since we’ve been sick we didn’t want to give it to anyone else but now we’ll be able to visit.
Inside the Big Tent, Elbow to Elbow people.

There were a few things that gave us ideas for changes to our traveling in the future. By 10:30 with all the walking we had done we were getting hungry and tired so we stopped at one of the Food Vendors and each got a sandwich. That would tide us over until it was time for supper this evening.
Other Vendors surrounding the Big Tent.
Even though we plan on revisiting one of the Vendors on the north side of Tyson Wells Road we figured we’d just get out of the elbow to elbow crowds for today. As we were walking back to the Wash where we were parked we had to watch for drivers that didn’t seem to care if they ran into you. When we finally made it back to our Truck we had another problem. Last year they had Volunteers directing you where to park but not this year. After having started the line in the middle of the Wash we later got Boxed-In.
Boxed in from the rear.
There were at least a dozen vehicles that others parked Behind and in Front of. The “B” class RV parked next to us was furious. Guess you can’t change Stupid. She took the License Number of the vehicle behind her and us and headed back to the Big Tent. Minutes passed and we watched other stupid acts of driving in the Wash before the people behind us showed up. As they pulled out Kathy had to stand in the empty spot so we could back out because others wanted to pull in.
Boxed in from the front.
With vehicles still coming in to the area there was only one way out and that was to drive through the Wash until we came out on Tyson Wells Road. We left the Truck in All Wheel Drive until we had to stop before exiting the Wash otherwise we would never have gotten out of the deep gravel. It took another Ten Minutes to drive up to Arizona 95 before heading for La Posa South.
Even with large gatherings there is still lots of space.
It was nearly noon by the time we got Home and the wind was gusting up to 25 MPH. Checking the Weather Forecast they showed the temperature was cooling down. We had a few Windows and the Door open for a short while but eventually had to close them.
One of many Motor-Home gatherings.
With our getting up early and all the walking Kathy needed a long nap. I busied myself getting caught upon the reading I didn’t do this morning. Around 2:00 the sky was filled with Black Clouds and the Wind had increased. By 3:15 we were getting Rain for the second time since we have been here. Unlike the last time, this rain did not make puddles but mainly stirred the dust.

Clouds filling the sky.
We were starting to feel hungry around 4:00 but didn’t know what we wanted to eat. We couldn’t use the Weber because of the high wind and rain so we took a gamble and headed back to Quartzsite. The Outside Temperature showing on the Truck Dash was 11 C (52 F) which was cooler then when we left the Tent. There was very lite traffic and we arrived at Taco Mia by 4:30.
Raining over the Mountain.
We had no trouble finding a seat but there were no Waitresses to take our orders. Instead I stood in line for nearly twenty minutes until I reached the Take-Out Counter where I ordered and paid for our Meals, got our Drinks and went back to the table. While I had been in line Kathy had spoken to a Waitress who explained that for the next week they will be so busy that this will be the only way they can keep up. I had noticed Six People working in the Kitchen compared to Two on our previous visits. When our Meals were ready they were delivered to our table.
The white speck in the upper center is the Moon as the Sun sets.
After eating we drove over to Family Dollar to walk off some of our meal. Kathy wasn’t able to find a replacement Hairbrush she needed so we drove over to Dollar General. This was the first time there since last spring and this store is always in a mess with Stock piled on the floor and most of their shelves empty. Kathy didn’t find her Hairbrush there either.
You can see it better in this cropped photo.

By the time we got back Home the sky seemed to be clearing, the wind had calmed down and the Temp was back to 59 F (15 C). It’s not often I get a picture of the Sunset and Moon in the same picture. Around 9:00 it was down to 50 F (10 C) and is supposed to get colder. Thanks for following along, feel free to leave a comment and click on the pictures to enlarge them. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. We always waited for the second or third day of the Big Tent. Drivers weren't quite so stupid on those days, although we did see some people block others in. No brains!!!

  2. I feel myself getting tense just reading about fighting crowds and the parking situation. Used to not bother me...... it does now. Hope your future days at Q are better.

  3. What a day. Thank goodness for four wheel drive. The crowds must be bigger than previous years based on what I'm hearing.

Glad you were able to visit the big tent and get in and out of there.
