Our Location today is La Posa South
L.T.V.A., Quartzsite, Arizona, U.S.A.
When we finally woke up
this morning we still were not sure what today would hold for us. Even though
we have set up our base here in Quartzsite for this winter, we try to do
things that we haven’t done or seen before. This past week really had us
questioning what we would be doing but after using the Generic Version of Mucinex we are both alive and feeling more
like our selves today.
Last week while out and
about we picked up the latest addition of the Desert Messenger News which is a Free News Tabloid of what is happening in Quartzsite. We had found a
couple of things of interest to do but when you aren’t feeling well, who knows
if you’ll get to it.
Going through our usual
routine this morning, Breakfast, Computers and Chores we wanted to liven things up a bit. Life can’t always be
about work and no play which becomes very boring not only to those reading but
to those of us living this life.
Before we got sick we had immediately
thought that attending a Concert at
the QIA
Building would be great. We had
heard from others who had attended last year how they loved it. We missed out
because we were attending the Lake Havasu Hot Air Balloon Festival at the
time.
After a lite snack for
lunch we took the chance that there would still be Tickets available at the door. Having never been down to Ironwood Road we found it interesting to find this Entertainment Mecca in the mist of
things we were taking for granted. (Sounds like what most of us say about our
Home Towns.)
Since I wanted to get
pictures I insisted that we sit in as straight a line with the stage as
possible. The few empty chairs remaining in the front section were all reserved
but there was an entire row against the back wall. Within
minutes the hall was starting to fill and finally a proper looking couple sat
with us. They were Sheryl and Gordon Six from Oregon and are presently camped
out on Plomosa
Road with a group of RV Friends. We would have a chance to
visit before the show, during the intermission and after the show.
Today’s concert was the Tenth Year in a row that the New Christy Minstrels have appeared in Quartzsite. Randy Sparks who is
now 85 Years Young and the creator
of the New
Christy Minstrels has been
entertaining since the late 50’s. He was the first member of the troupe to
be onstage where he gave us a history lesson of how he had written the song Hi Jolly. It was about the history of Quartzsite
and had become the Town Song for
decades since its release.
David Deutschendorf plays guitar and banjo but due to back problems wasn't playing. He is also the uncle to the late John Denver. |
Bit by bit other members of
the group were brought up and introduced. Though there was some onstage
bantering about the Ethnicity of
some of the group but it was all in gest. It was strongly remarked to the
audience that we are all one in this life and we should treat one another as
friends no matter where we go.
The show had started at
2:00 with only a Fifteen-Minute Intermission
break it carried on until 4:30. Each of the entertainers performed at least one
solo number as well as a mixture of hits made famous by the Minstrels through out the years that we
all remembered.
After the show was over we
had a few more minutes to visit before saying our good byes with our new-found
friends Sheryl and Gordon, that we hope to cross paths with somewhere down the
road.
We drove over to the Stage Coach
Restaurant where we had our supper.
Only five tables were occupied when we walked in but by the time our food
arrived the place was packed.
By the time we left the
restaurant the Sun had already hidden itself behind the mountains yet continued
to light our way until we were back Home in La Posa South LTVA.
We’ll wait until tomorrow
to decide what will happen with our day. Thanks for following along, feel free to
leave a comment and click on the pictures to enlarge them. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.

Words of Inspiration
As in filling a vessel drop
by drop, there is at last a drop which makes it run over; so in a series of
kindnesses there is at last one which makes the heart run over.
