More Construction, Trimmed, Tasty Ribs and Finding New A BLM Area

Our Location today is La Posa South L.T.V.A., Quartzsite, Arizona, U.S.A.

After putting fresh bedding on yesterday there was no attempts to hoard the covers made last night. I managed to be up before the Sun cleared the mountain range this morning and get most of the Window Shades raised and Breakfast ready to serve before going on the Computer. I only managed to check The Weather Network before Kathy started making her way downstairs. She was nearly in a panic because we had an 11:15 appointment this morning but there was a Saving Grace. The appointment was in Blythe so we had an extra hour on our side.

I got caught up reading everyone that had posted on our sidebar, checked the News and even reviewed my E-mail. At that point we completed our morning chores and were just about to head out the door when my phone rang.

It was the Amazon Representative that I had spoken to yesterday about changing our Shipping Address at Quiet Times Greeting Card Shop to include a Box ##, because our package was stuck at the Quartzsite Post Office. She had called the Post Office herself to try and have them add the Box ## but their reply was “If it wasn’t addressed that way when it got shipped it would be returned, No Ands, Ifs or Buts about it”. With attitudes like that I can understand why more and more people are sending things by Courier Services rather then by Mail
I-10 westbound from Quartzsite to Blythe, California.
The Right Lane has been recently repaved.
It was just after 10:30 MST when we headed out the door. Knowing we had plenty of time to get to our appointment I turned up Tyson Wells Road to drive by the Vendors Area. That was a mistake! I figured in Five Minutes we’d be on the highway. The road was packed and it took nearly Fifteen Minutes to travel the Thousand Feet and you don’t get points for hitting pedestrians. There were some people that waited for the stopped traffic to start moving again before dodging in front of you. I’m certain there’s a shiny spot on our bumper.
Welcome to California.
After finally getting on I-10 heading west towards Blythe, California we were only up the road a couple of miles when we spotted the Construction Signs and traffic slowed to nearly 30 MPH. The state of Arizona has been repairing the bad sections of Washboard Road this winter and the last time we drove to Blythe it looked like they were nearly done. As we were driving along the Construction Cones seemed to be tossed all over into the right lane. As traffic started speeding up there was the Line Painting Crew taking the off ramp ahead of us. Now they just have to pick up their Cones and Signs and the project is completed.

We arrived at Cutting Edge in Blythe with a Half Hour to spare and Gloria was still working on other customers. It seems the Younger Beauticians come and go as they please so within minutes she was the only one there. We had met her last winter and she does our hair the way that Jen at Fantastic Sam’s in Windsor does it. Within a Half Hour she had changed our appearances from the Shaggy Dog look to the way we prefer to appear.

It was nearly noon PST when we left which meant we were late for our lunch. On one of our trips to Blythe this winter we didn’t want fast food and had found a place called Rebel Barbecue. Located next to McDonalds and across the street from Las Tacos we tried their ½ Rack of Ribs. They supply you with plastic cutlery. Now imagine using a plastic fork that completely peeled the meet from the Ribs with little effort. They tasted fantastic and lunch was the last meal we needed to eat for the day.

We drove over to the Dollar Tree around the corner. Even though we had shopped at Three Other Dollar Tree stores in Yuma there was still a few things we forgot. Besides this allowed us to walk off some of our lunch. We were just about to leave the store when we spotted a man who had what we hadn’t found so we asked him where he found them so we didn’t leave empty handed after all.

Our next stop was Smart and Final grocery store where we got more walking in. We had shopped here a number of times last winter and enjoyed it. Today it seemed that all the Fruit Kathy would check seemed to have been picked too early. She left it behind thinking it would probably rot before it would ripen. We did manage to find a number of other things that will help keep us supplied for some time.

When we got back to Quartzsite we went down Main Street to avoid the crowds at the Vendors Area. After all that Highway Driving our Truck finally went into Regen Mode which is where it cleans out the Diesel Particulate Filter as you continue to drive. To allow this to happen we drove right past La Posa South LTVA down Arizona 95 until we came to La Paz Valley. We have seen this road many times on our way to Yuma we always wondered what was down there so this seemed to be the perfect time to find out.
Heading back to Quartzsite.
After leaving the Highway we spotted lots of RVs spread all over the terrain. Then we saw the sign saying La Paz Valley 14 Day Dry Camping Area. In other words, this is another BLM area that you can stay at for Free for Fourteen Days before you have to leave. The Camphost was not far from the road and behind him there were other RVs and there also seemed to be a group of Motor Homes nosed in a large circle with chairs around a Firepit with tables set up for use with Pot Lucks

Further down the road we found what appears to be a couple of RV Parks where the RVs are nearly touching one another. There was a sign indicating something about Gem Hunters Camp. We drove until the Pavement came to an end and decided we didn’t want to do any Off-Roading today. As we turned around we also noticed a couple of people Desert Golfing. We could see about a half dozen Golf Hole Flags in not too large an area.

So now if we didn’t want to stay too long in Quartzsite we have another option of where to stay just beyond the LTVAs

It was nearly 5:00 MST when we got Home in La Posa South LTVA. By the time we had everything put away the Sun was already setting. Not sure what we’ll be doing tomorrow but I’m sure we’ll be busy. Thanks for following along, feel free to leave a comment and click on the pictures to enlarge them. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. Those ribs look delicious!! Desert golf? Never heard of it. Pretty sure I've seen more rigs this year than previously.

  2. We went to Quartzsite a few years ago and had a pretty good time camping with an Alfa group. I wasn't impressed by the big tent show. The whole place just felt dirty and a bit dismal to me. I guess I like a few trees. You'd think that with so many RVers in town the stores would increase their stocks of things like fresh veggies and fruit, but they don't. Enjoy the sunsets, they can be the best!
