More Building Repairs and A Broken Pizza.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Once again Paul told me to forget my Morning Walk Around and to concentrate on other things like patching the holes in the Mezzanine Windows. Having the Materials already upstairs made it was easier to get right into the job. That was until Avry came along saying there was a problem that needed my attention.

I’ve written that this building was erected in 1929 and was the former Chrysler Spring Plant here in Windsor. When the Plant was idled and sat empty for Three Years locals used the Windows for target practice destroying many on the lower floors. When Paul took over in 1993 he did a quick fix by covering most of those Windows with Chip Board Panels. Being cheap he didn’t even paint over the exterior which would have made them last much longer. When it comes to Powder Coating metal temperature control is something that has its limits. It can’t be too Hot in the Summer and it certainly cannot be too Cold in the Winter. What happen today was the exterior Window Covering at the Powder Coat Room had actually fallen off the building. Due to the season the old wall had to be put back in place quickly and since Paul is cheap the old wall had to be put back in place.

I made the Metal Brackets in the Compound before layering up to go outside. I was lucky that there was little breeze and the Sun was shining brightly. With Avry’s help we lifted the old wall back in place before propping it with old pipes. Getting the Brackets in place one at a time was a challenge but by the end of the shift the job was completed and solid. Having to take an early lunch I told Kathy there was a chance that I might be late going home but was happy when that wasn’t necessary.

Neither of us were very hungry so we chose to have a Store Bought Thin Crust Chicken Pizza for supper. One thing we learned about having a small Fridge/Freezer in the Trailer was in order to save space we removed the boxes off all of our Frozen Foods and continue that habit in the Apartment. You know your freezer is working well when the Frozen Pizza falls to the floor and breaks in half. Luckily the cellophane kept it clean and it still was tasty.

The 6 o’clock Local News reported another 5 Coronavirus Deaths for the Windsor/Essex Region along with 432 New Cases over the course of the last Three Days.

The Weather Network showed that we only reached a high temperature of 27 F (-3 C) this afternoon but we’ll have a near Springlike Temperature tomorrow before returning to Winter weather on Wednesday.

Not Wasting and Busy Visiting.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Kathy was really upset with herself this morning after sleeping later then she did yesterday. I was already checking out newly published Job Ads. Other then the Two I applied for the other night there were no new ones in my field.

While Kathy immediately started her morning chores while I started making breakfast. Like I’ve written before we hate to have to throw any Food away because it would be the same as throwing our money away. This morning I used the last of the old Bread to make French Toast. The problem was that the Bread was so dry it actually sucked up the eggs in the first two Toast so I had to add more to the mix. Then it seemed the next Toasts barely needed any eggs so I needed to make extra Toast to not waste the eggs. Kathy was stuffed with only Two Toast so I had to pig out and eat Four.

We spent the morning getting caught up on reading Blogs we follow. We also took note that even though there was a heavy Cloud cover the forecasted Flurries that were supposed to hit our area no longer existed. We needed to get out so after a quick call we had plans for the afternoon.

While I cleaned up the Cantaloupe that we’ll have as snacks and desserts Kathy was busy making Hot Open Faced Roast Beef Sandwiches with Potato Slices for our lunch from the Roast she cooked on Friday. It all tasted wonderful and would hold us over until supper time.

We arrived at our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melisa’s house in
Amherstburg with a minute to spare. I had said we would be there around 2:00 and we were. Since Melisa is still working from home, Matthew is laid-off from work, with Kevin and Cameron only going grocery shopping we felt very safe. They have all had their Vaccines just in case. We had a wonderful visit and Melisa made certain there were snacks for everyone to nibble on which meant we didn’t need to eat supper when we got home.

The 6 o’clock Local News didn’t say anything about the Virus.

Sun trying to break through the Clouds.

The Weather Network showed that we only reached a high temperature of 23 F (-5 C) this afternoon. Luckily there was very little breeze so we weren’t chilled to the bone like we might be tomorrow.

We later watched “Nancy Drew”. This is definitely not the same Nancy we grew up reading about.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Switching Things Around.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Having Two Days in a row off when you are part of the working part of the population is like you have just won the Lottery. Repeatedly looking at the Clock and telling yourself get the rest you need. I actually lay in bed and waited for Kathy to get up saying that she had slept in.

The Sun paid us a visit.

Breakfast was different then what I have time to have during the week. We had a Single Egg Over Easy on a Single Slice of Toast and it tasted wonderful.

Our morning Temperature,

I went downstairs to the Laundry Room hoping to finish washing my Coveralls but when I got there the only working Machines were all in use. Remembering how slow it gets in the evening that’s when I decided to return. In the meantime back at the Apartment I brought out the Pail in the Bathtub and gave each pair its own separate deep agitation.

Looking at the weather report we thought about doing our grocery shopping a day early. We had Chicken Noodle Soup for lunch with the last of he fresh cut Pineapple for dessert.

It was shortly after that we headed out the door with our first stop being Canadian Tire. We both had our own idea of things we needed so Kathy headed to House Ware while I headed to Tools. We both found what we were looking for along with getting Batteries as we headed for the Check-Out.

Next we headed to Dollarama where we started checking things off of our Shopping List.

While at the Zehr’s grocery store we scratched the rest of the items off our List along with a few pieces of Meat that were “On Sale”. The prices on everything have really gone up and we can only blame that on the Coronavirus. Restrictions have caused many of the increases.

It was past 4:30 as we loaded the Car and were about to have supper out. As soon as we got on the road traffic was being detoured because of a Traffic Accident. We ended up at the Dairy Queen where we used a Coupon for our supper. You can tell we are eating much less then we used to because we both struggled to finish our meals.

The Pioneer gas station still had the lower prices that should go up no later then Monday so we topped up the Car on our way home.

Since New Management has taken control of our building all the Shopping Carts have been removed from the building so we had to carry everything up by hand. (I definitely need to repair our Folding Shopping Cart.)

We watched the 6 o’clock Local News but nothing was said about the Virus.

The Weather Network showed that we only reached a high temperature of 16 F (-9 C) this afternoon.

I managed to get my Coveralls cleaned and dried in the Laundry Room with no problem this evening.

We see what we do tomorrow depending on the weather.

Patches, More Plowing and Another Day With Kathy.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Paul was on the Forklift moving stock when I arrived at the Plant this morning so his sore throat from the other night had passed. I went through my Morning Walk Around where I found a few parts that had fallen off the Carriers inside the Dryers. Since the heat had not built up yet I was able to retrieve them so they would not cause a Pile-Up inside.

Back at the Compound I was just starting to do more Carrier repairs when Paul said that he would prefer I do the Metal Patches to cover the holes made by Squirrels and Birds. That took additional measurements to minimize the number of Patches used for covering more of the holes.
When I finally started cutting the Sheet Metal I started by using a Cutting Wheel on the small Hand Grinder in order to use some larger pieces. When I was about to use the Six Foot Shear the only thing I could cut was across the sheets. Handling a Ten Foot Long Sheet by yourself is not an easy task because when you line up one side chances are the other side will move. A trick I learned over Thirty Years ago is to line up the one side then clamp a pair of Vise Grips to the Metal so when you move the other side that one stays put. When Paul saw that he started reading me the Riot Act that I should not be clamping to the Shear. As another incident had it took nearly Ten Minutes to make him realize I did not clamp to the Shear.

As I hauled the Patches upstairs he realized what I was saying was right. Instead of admitting I knew what I was doing he asked me to use the ATV to plow around the Garbage Bin outside and to salt at the Loading Dock Ramps.

When I spoke to Kathy at lunch I could barely see outside because of the Blowing Snow. By the time I layered up and actually went outside with the ATV the Sun was shining and there were hardly any Clouds in the sky. By the time I finished plowing the Sun was already melting the little bit of Snow left behind. Since I wasn’t asked to work tomorrow I’ll have my second weekend in a row to spend with Kathy.

I stopped at Guardian Storage to pick up our Mail on the home. Before I reached Motor City Community Credit Union the Truck started to Regen. I did my banking before calling to say Kathy that I would be delayed. As I drove past gas stations I noted the prices had gone up since last week. When I passed Pioneer gas station their prices were still the same. When the Truck Regens it uses more Fuel to clean the Diesel Particulate Filter so I kept my fingers crossed while I drove the Expressway allowing it to do its thing. When I got back to the Pioneer station the price was still good so I topped up the Truck saving myself a Seven Cents a Litre (Twenty-Eight Cents a Gallon) increase. Until the prices start going down I’ll just top off the Truck every week.

Kathy had used the Crock Pot to make supper. When I called saying I would be delayed she simply lowered the setting and kept it on warming. She served Roast Beef, Potatoes and Vegetables for the main course along with Carbonated Juice for our refreshment.

The 6 o’clock Local News reported another Coronavirus Death for the Windsor/Essex Region along with 221 New Cases.

The Weather Network showed that we only reached a high temperature of 16 F (-9 C) this afternoon that felt like 1 F (-17.5 C).

I attempted to wash my Dirty Coveralls downstairs this evening but they were so dirty that after the second wash I just brought them upstairs still wet. I’ll try using the Pail in the Bathtub to get them cleaner tomorrow.
