Thinking For Itself.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Thinking we could start one of the smaller Feedscrews this morning was quickly dashed when Vinnie the Engineer said they needed the twin to the 130 MM we did on Wednesday, done ASAP. I knew that would be a mistake considering that it was Twenty Feet long. That would mean we would be pushing to get it finished by the end of the shift.

After getting it mounted and the burners running Surough automatically started prepping the Torch while I busied myself changing out the Hard-Surfacing Powder. We had already marked the Unit with Soapstone as a way of better seeing the Transition Spots, so it did not take long to make the Spreadsheet Entries. By 8:30 we were already welding.

When Bob the Kennametal Technician had come to adjust the PTA and teach us a few little tricks on the operation of the machine, he had suggested replacing the Electrodes every Two Hours. It seemed the PTA had other plans and would plug the Orifice every Ninety Minutes so that became our time to service the Torch.

After doing our Test Run with the Pencil we were surprise how low the Rotation Speed was. When we started the actual weld, we tried unsuccessfully to speed it up. Though the welds did come out smooth, they just took so long to do.

Surough left at 11:00, having a first appointment with his new family doctor since moving to Windsor. That meant I was on my own and the slow rotation was not something I was used to.

Around 2:00 both Vinnie and Mile checked in on the job and said it had to be finished today, so the Machining could start in Monday morning.

After that it seemed the PTA was going down every Five Minutes. When Mile checked in again, I said at that rate it would just be finished on Monday. I was told to enjoy my weekend.

Kathy was still feeling under the weather after the X-ray Table ride on Wednesday, so she stayed home today. We shared a Store-Bought Thin-Crust Hawaiian Pizza for supper.

It may only be a Two Day Weekend, but any time away from work is a blessing.

I guess you had to be there.”
