Making A Difference.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

After being informed that a Kennametal Technician would show up at the Plant today, I didn’t hold my breathe on it. I confirmed with Mile a couple other Jobs that needed to be be touched up before getting back to the Plasma Transfer Arc.

It was only 7:15 when Bob walked in to introduce himself and started asking Vic, Sherush and myself what the problems were with the Machine, even though he had them all listed on a Printout in his hand. He chuckled when Vic said it was Possessed. Then he started asking if we had ever done certain technical things to the PTA. None of us knew what he was talking about. When the former PTA Operator was let go, he took all that knowledge with him. I had worked with him for less than Twelve Hours but he set-up the Machine.

One by one as Bob showed us how to do these routine tasks, the PTA started to respond to the Programming the way it should. Mile looked in a few times but did not stay long. Somehow that Consultant Pat showed up and tried to make it all about him. By the look on my face, Bob soon brushed him off and got back to trying to adjust the Machine.

Bit by bit as the problems were resolved, he explained why that would make a difference. There was a problem with one of the Bins, where he needed to contact Ted at Kennametal for further information, so we had an early lunch.

When Bob returned, we ran a Test Weld on a Scrap Feedscrew. Even though we only welded half the Flights, it looked so good that Mile was suggesting we finish it.

There was still One Nagging Question that I asked Bob. I brought him over to several Screws that the Hard Surfacing Material had broken off. With Mile standing there, Bob told us how to fix the problem. Mile always wants everything done Fast and with One Pass. Replacing the Electrode every Two Hours because they wear down and doing Multiple Passes. When Mile said it would add time to the job, Bob pointed out the bad welds were costing him More Time. Doing it Bob’s way will get the product out the door sooner.

When he returns tomorrow, he’ll be teaching us a few things that I was never taught. Even with information under my belt, when it comes time for my Hip/Leg Treatment or Repair, I will leave. We left the Plant around 4:17 this afternoon.

In the Apartment Kathy and I talked for a bit before sharing a Thin-Crust Store-Bought Chicken Pizza for supper. The temperatures will be starting to get cold this coming Thanksgiving Weekend.
