Almost Back To Normal.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

The first thing we did at work was to pull the Feedscrew that did not get finished on Friday, from the Sandbox, where it spent the weekend, cooling down slowly so the welds would not crack. Surough and I had it set up in minutes and have really begun working as a team. I’ve been alternating his duties that go with the job. One day cleaning the PTA Torch, setting up the Burners, digging out the Sandbox and even grinding the Electrodes. This also gives me the chance to ask if he is happy the results and what does he think would improve the outcome. My doing it all is not an option.

The one thing we all have been trying to figure out, is why we have to run the Positioner speed lower then we used to, for the same sized Unit as before. This particular Screw should have been finished in Eight Hours, not the Fourteen Hours that it took.

We had the Unit back in the Sandbox by noon and had already loaded a much smaller Feedscrew into the PTA. After getting everything ready Vic the Inspector showed up with parts to finish the repairs on the TIG Welder. While Surough completed the few adjustments on the PTA, I was able to get the Cooler connected to the TIG Welder and Torch. Remembering how Excessively Hot it used to get, I activated the Pump while I added the protective Jacket to the lines. It only took a few minutes for them to become Cold to the touch. It was finished in no time and will be put to work tomorrow.

Back at the Plasma Transfer Arc, the Torch was running rampant so after a few tries we shut the PTA System off. This was something I had been shown and did many times. After Three Restarts the PTA was running Five Times Faster then the Screw we finished this morning.

Since the PTA was working and I have an Appointment in the morning, I continued the job. Mile was happy to see it working but had no idea why. He asked me to install a new Electrode Holder on the Stick Machine. It took all of Five Minutes to replace and had worn out because people over tighten it too much, stripping the threads.

I was Halfway through this job when I ran out of Argon. When that happens the machine stops the welding process by shutting off the Torch. After replacing the Argon Cylinder, the Torch would not relight. I spent nearly a Half Hour trying different things to get it going with no Luck. It found its way to the Sandbox, to be finished tomorrow.

It felt good to be home. Kathy walked to a house behind our building to take pictures of a house decorated for Halloween. Unfortunately, Google is giving me a hard time signing in and posting Pictures. I’ll keep trying to fix our problem.
