It
actually felt comfortable when we got up this morning, Having an
overnight cloud cover to hold the warmth in as we slept was quite
encouraging and The Weather Network
was forecasting a comfortable high of 68 F (20 C) this
afternoon.
As soon
as we’d finished our breakfast I made a call to Darla the Service
Manager at Vision Ford to see
how the Truck was coming but only managed to leave a voice
mail. We were soon opening Windows in order to keep the
temperature comfortable. Darla called back to give us a rundown of
what was happening.
We
had some Chili that
Kathy had made yesterday before heading to Vision
Ford in
downtown Alamogordo and Darla led
us back to see our Truck. Kathy gasped as she saw it in a
condition that she had never imagined, the Engine was quite
visible and the Cab was lifted a good Six Feet Higher
then it normally sits on the Frame. Richard had been busy
removing the Parts that he had said were bad and more. The way
that Ford designed the vehicle in
order to reach certain components this is the only way to do it. This
was the Worst Case Scenario.
The one
thing that Richard was able to show us was that there was absolutely
nothing wrong with the Front Engine Cover that Kieth the
Service Manager at Broadway Ford
in St Louis had insisted was
broken back in March of this year. There was a problem with one of
the Thermostats not staying latched in the Housing but
not the Front Engine Cover. He will be working on the Truck
today, tomorrow and Saturday but doesn’t think it will be ready
until Tuesday. It was like being kicked.
Our next
stop was Enterprise Car Rentals.
When Eric came out we explained that we wouldn’t have the Truck
back until Tuesday. We asked if there were cheaper vehicles to rent
because that Pickup was really costing us and Kathy was having
a problem getting in and out because there was no Step Bar. We
left there driving a Toyota Sentra that Kathy can easily get
in and out of plus we are saving Forty Dollars a day.
We went
back to the Historic Downtown Area
with plans to see one of the attractions that we had yet to see.
Unfortunately it wasn’t open so we started walking up Main
Street and looking at some of the shops. We found one
called Victoria that had lots of
unique items and they were reasonably priced. A few things started
calling our names telling us they would make great Christmas
Gifts for 2019. We actually had the chance to speak
with Victoria herself and were told she has been running her
shop at that location for Thirty-Eight Years. It turned into a
short visit.
Heading
in the direction of 10th
Street when we stopped in Tularosa
Basin Museum of History. It cost us each $3.00 to
this exhibit. It covered not only the historic settlement of the
Basin but Archaeological
Discoveries of Native Settlements. It also showed pictures
of the Ships and Submarines named the USS New Mexico
that were used during WWII. Since New
Mexico is used for Missile and Aircraft
Development they showed articles on that. The most
important was recognition given to individuals from New
Mexico that climbed the political ladders.
Since it
was after 4:00 we went to Arby’s where
we enjoyed their 2 for $6.00 Greek Gyros and a Soft Drink
for lunch. It felt good just to sit and relax as we discussed what is
happening with the Truck.
The
breeze seemed to be getting colder so after walking a few more blocks
and checking a couple more Shops we headed over to Walmart.
We only went there to get some walking in without being so cold.
Instead we spent the next Two Hours gathering more Christmas
Gifts for next year.
It was
nearly 5:00 when we got back Home.
After unloading the car I walked over to the Office to pay
until next Tuesday night. They have left our Site closed to
reservations until we are finally back on the road.
Not
sure what we’ll be doing tomorrow but with Cooler
and
Wet
Daytime Weather
we are sure that we’ll find something. Thank
you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and
Enjoy!
It’s about time.

So sorry about the truck. I would be very unhappy by now but what can you do. At least you were able to get a cheaper rental car.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the trouble you are having with the truck doesn't take away the joy of your time this winter.
ReplyDeleteOh my .... so sorry to hear about your truck. I sure hope they get it fixed quickly and correctly. Maybe it's time for a new one?
ReplyDeleteI get sad reading about the truck. This is not how you wanted things to be. Hoping that this fix takes care of it for many years.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm a half full person...think how cold you would be if it happened just west of the US/Canada border. Brrrrrr! You would be in a motel.
ReplyDeleteBoy I hate to see the bill for the truck! ;( Glad you treaded in the truck rental..those costs add up so fast. Looks like the rest of the day was interesting though.
ReplyDeleteUgh - I remember how it felt to see the cab of the truck removed and the massive pile of engine parts! Not a fun feeling! I hope they get you fixed up quickly! At least you are somewhere where there is stuff to do!
ReplyDeleteOh no!! I can imagine your devastation when you got the news. However it does sound like you have a great mechanic who is detailed and thorough. Sounds like this will be the final fix. Hugs to you both.
