Slightly Warmer, Alamogordo Zoo, Lowe’s Signature Market and Ride Along 2

Our Location today is at the Alamogordo/White Sands K.O.A. NM.

We were surprised to wake up to temperatures in the low Forties this morning considering that it has been below freezing every morning since our arrival. We had breakfast and our Two Cup refreshment at the Computers.
Kathy double checked our accounts this morning to see that our Transferred Monies had been deposited yet. It is amazing that any time that you Withdraw or Charge anything to an account you can see it instantly but if you Transfer or Deposit monies into those accounts it takes Three to Four Business Days to show up and sometimes not until the close of the day.

I verified where today’s adventure was going to be so as soon as we finished eating lunch we were heading out the door. Kathy made us each a small Picnic Plate of food to fill us up with. We each had an Open-Faced Crumpet with melted Cheese, some Potato Salad and part of a Tomato. We were certain that would hold us over.
We arrived at the Alamogordo Zoo shortly after noon. It is presently getting renovations done so the Signage is not the best. Being Seniors it only cost $1.50 each for our entree fee. Unlike the Big City Zoos their display of animals is much smaller so the Entree Fees and Sales in the Gift Shop need to go towards feeding the Animals. The Docents, Vets and Caretakers are all volunteers, in other words they work for Free.
Loretta was the Docent on duty today and she started telling us about their many animals here at the Zoo. Being on a low budget, most of the Animals here are Rescues that had Injuries that would make it impossible for them to survive in the wild. Another sign is the Animals are confined to pens that are fenced in which also makes it hard to get good pictures through.
Kathy had read a review earlier saying that it only took ten minutes to walk through but the layout of this Zoo makes you believe that it is very tiny because it is on a tract of land that is long and narrow.
Loretta also told us how many of the Animals here are on the Endangered Species List due to being hunted as well as their natural habitats being destroyed all in the name of progress. We spent nearly Two Hours there and learned that even the Bald Eagle was on the Endangered Species List.
Town history on a Mural
From the Zoo parking lot, we spotted some stores in the Historic Section of town so we drove over to investigate.
We spotted a Lowe’s Signature Market and Kathy need a couple of spices so that was where we went. We’d worn lunch off so we though about getting something to eat from their Deli. We share a couple of Turkey Wraps and a Kosher Dill Pickle along with a couple of Fountain Drinks. To be able to eat that in the store they had tables you could use in their Bar. We have seen lots of super markets selling alcoholic beverages on their shelves but this one had a Bar that you could have drinks in.
On the way out we found a Clothing Dropbox for the clothes that Kathy wanted to donate.
Back at Home we watched the movie “Ride Along 2” starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. We never saw the original “Ride Along” but this one kept us laughing.
We didn’t eat anything else for supper. Tomorrow we are hoping to get our Truck back so we can get on the road again. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

  2. Hope the truck gets returned soon. Nothing like being forced to stay in one place when you want to be elsewhere.
