Learning About A Legend.

Our Location today is at Shawnee, Oklahoma

After spending so much time parked at the Pilot Truck Stop in Joplin Missouri we once again patronized the Wendy’s for breakfast as well as topping off the Truck with Diesel.
Back on I-44 westbound we made the decision that when we reached Oklahoma we’d stay on the Interstate even though it became a Toll Road. Having looked at the maps before going to bed last night it would cost less in Tolls then the extra Fuel and Time it would take to get to our destination.
Kathy admired her childhood hero.
We arrived in Claremore, Oklahoma at the Will Rogers Museum at around 10:30. Even though we were both born well after his death we both grew up watching many movies that he starred in. We were so engrossed at learning about our Childhood Hero and wouldn’t say Thank You to the Docents for the chance to see this wonderful person in a different light until nearly 3:00 in the afternoon. The Museum will be closing for the season on November 11th.
With the nearby VFW being already filled for the night the only place we found that still had room for us to stay was at the Will Roger’s Ranch that would have us parking in a pasture. The problem with that was it had started Raining hard around 2:00 and the ditches were spilling on to the roads. Parking in a field wasn’t happening for us plus we needed to go On-Line and make a reservation.
Will, Nancy and Two of their Children are laid to rest here.
All we could do was keep driving until we could stop for the night. Many of the Truck Stops were already filled up and the Walmart we drove by had Large Signs reading “No Overnight Parking” so we just kept driving until the Rain stopped. No Rain, lots of Parking Space. We had only planned to drive to the Claremore area today but finished off driving 232.6 Miles.
Lots of parking space today. Might be difficult in the summer.
Even doing less miles tomorrow we might arrive at our next attraction days ahead of schedule. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

Krackers

Ask a silly question:

Just when I'm finally holding all the cards,

why does everyone decide to play chess?

  2. Not sure how far your going today and if your going to hit the I40 after. Elk City Ok. has a nice park campground on their reservoir. It has five free sites with electricity. It is just South of the 40.

  4. Nice that you got some history about a childhood idol. He was certainly a popular guy back in the day.
