It was Humid when I headed in to work this morning and for a Monday I wasn’t looking forward to it after just having a Two Week Vacation from our Supervisor Kharen.
When I went in to get the Key to the Compound Paul the Owner came out asking if I had gotten his Phone Message looking for the Compound Key on the weekend. I simply picked it off the Hook and showed it to him. He said that it was hanging at the wrong spot and the person that put it there should have known better. I pointed to him and said I would label it for him. I didn’t mention that my Cell Phone had been turned off the entire weekend. Before I returned the Key it was labelled so there would be no further confusion.
My Morning Walk Around went well with only a single leak starting to develop at one of the Pumps. A few rounds of Electrical Tape and the problem was averted for the time being. Before returning to the Compound there was a single Carrier that took Two Minutes to put back into shape.
If you recall last week I had
prepared the Two Lifting Frames to be removed from the
Mezzanine. Someone had done just
that on Saturday and parked them just outside the Compound.
Paul suggested I put it in the far Bay
where most of the Materials I use and Junk are stored
so we’ll be able to use them again if necessary in the future. He
must have thought it would keep me busy for the morning. Instead of
dragging them by hand like I did on the Mezzanine
I simply waited until I saw a Forklift Driver that didn’t
look too busy. Tom was more then happy to help me out. Like I’ve
said before I greet everyone with a “Hello” or “Good
Morning” and even though I’m wearing a Mask they can
see the Smile in my eyes.
After organizing a few things I
spotted what I’ve been wanting to modify for some time but have
always been too busy. When companies purchase Industrial Welding
Machines there are no Wheels on them so
you make a cart or you buy a Wheel Kit. The Kit
includes a Platform that carries the Cylinder of Inert
Gas used to shield the weld but it sits Five Inches off
the floor. Before I retired years ago we tossed all those Platforms
on all the MIG Welders and made new ones that were only Two
Inches off the floor. That means you don’t mess up your Back
when changing the Cylinder and there is less chance of it
tipping the Machine because
you are lowering its Center of Gravity. I had just
finished when Paul came in. When I explained it was a Safety Issue
Resolved he only said “Good Job”.
It was perfect timing because I had to change the Cylinder and I didn’t have to pile pieces of wood to prevent any banging of the Tank to take it down and I simply tipped the fresh Cylinder slightly and had it on the back of the Welding Machine without having to lift it.
Paul found me another job working on an Old Water Pump that he wants to reuse on the new tank on the Washer. I had criticized Kharen for using Plastic Piping on High Pressure Water Lines but I have to “Eat My Words”. Under different applications and not as much Pressure as I thought it is practical, less expensive and faster to assemble. I only managed to get the Controls, Floats and Flanges removed by the end of the shift. Paul had me soak it with WD-40 so we can check the Pump Bearings tomorrow.
There was no issue getting my Cheque. What the issue is that Paul thought I left at the same time the Line-Workers do. I’ll get it Friday in the morning so that doesn’t happen again.
Kharen was supposed to have returned today but he didn’t so we’ll see what happens tomorrow.
After depositing my Cheque at the Motor City Community Credit Union I managed to be walking in the Apartment by 4:00. (Lots of green traffic lights.)
Kathy had gone to visit our dear friend Vera early this morning but didn’t leave until after 1:00. They had a wonderful visit. It had been lightly Raining since noon so she just drove back to the Apartment.
For supper we had Chicken Caesars Salad with Fresh Sliced Peaches for dessert and a glass of Carbonated Juice (Fake Wine) for our beverage. It was like saying hello to an old friend.
The 6 o’clock Local News reported a combined Three Day count of 129 New Coronavirus Cases and 260 Active Cases in the Windsor/Essex Region. It seems on the weekends we only get the total Provincial Count as we go through what is being called the Fourth Wave.
The Weather Network showed that our Humidex felt like 84 F (29 C) which is a far cry better then last week and what is heading our way starting tomorrow.
With the rising temperatures we can only hope for a better day tomorrow.

I just had a thought. I know you've applied for several other jobs recently and none have panned out so far. Perhaps there is a reason. You are NEEDED where you are. You add value.
