Even though I had joked about Friday the 13th with Ivan the other day I’ve never been one to feel superstitious about it. Walking into the plant this morning there were already Carriers waiting for my attention. Getting myself prepared today I waited until the Line started before beginning my shift.
The Morning Walk Around
only revealed that the Ovens were
running again which meant that so was the Powder
Coating Booth as it takes the Heat to properly bond
the Powder to the products. That also meant that I wasn’t
going into that room because wearing a Mask that will protect
you from the Coronavirus will not
protect you from the Small Particulate Dust floating in the
air that is part of the process. The room is Air Conditioned
but not Well Exhausted.
Returning to the Compound
the first Two Carriers I worked on were produced prior to me
starting to work here. The one thing that is a constant is that they
should be made Square and if there are Two or more
Tiers the distance between Tiers is the same. I finally
put the Square on the Carrier only to find out it
wasn’t made Square in the first place nor
were any of the others like it that followed.
Throughout the day I went between drilling holes in the Panels for Powder Coat Booth and repairing Nine Carriers.
When Kathy makes my lunch at night she always wraps the Sandwiches in Saran Wrap to help keep them fresher. During the warmer days I’ve been bringing a can of Pop for lunch as it seems to quench my thirst better then just Water. Since I try to eat my lunch outside at the Picnic Table and the fact there are now so many Bees it’s a challenge. Once I’ve eaten half the Sandwich I then open and have a drink of Pop before immediately cover it with the Saran Wrap. Today there must have been Twenty Bees swarming around me and the can while I spoke to Kathy on the phone. After carefully picking up the can of Pop and going inside all the Bees stayed out. That tells you about the environment we are working in.
I delivered the last of the Panels to just outside the Powder Coating Room by 2:30 and straightened another Carrier without taking it back to the Compound. I spent the last Thirty Minutes of my shift sweeping the floor that has gone untouched for the last month.
So far Friday the 13th nothing had happen to upset my day. Having seen Paul the Owner at the start of the shift I was surprised when he was nowhere to be found when it was time to hand out the everyone’s Cheques. That is the second week in a row that I have gone home Empty-Handed.
After parking the Truck I was surprised to hear the rumbles of Thunder off in the distance. Kathy was surprised to see me walk in the Apartment before 4:00. I needed to cool down before taking my shower and did so by applying for Six Job Ads and booking my next Blood Donation that got rejected Five Weeks ago.
The shower felt wonderful but Kathy’s idea for supper was even better. The last time we ate a Hamburger was at our granddaughter’s Birthday Celebration a Month ago. The last time we barbecued a Burger was nearly Two Years ago. Adding Cheese, Onions, Relish and Mustard put it over the top. We also had an Apple and Yogurt Cup for dessert.
On the 6 o’clock Local News they reported that we are now into the Fourth Wave of Coronavirus bringing the Windsor/Essex Region to 45 New Cases along with Active Cases to 193. The Local Health Unit is saying that most of these cases are people that have not been vaccinated at this time and are now telling everyone to do so.
The Weather Network showed that our temperatures felt like 100 F (38 C) but we can expect more realistic readings throughout the weekend.
Tomorrow we plan on running some errands.

Krackers
You know your getting old when you wonder how you could be over the hill when you don't even remember being on top of it.
Ah geez. No paycheck. What a place. You could write a book. Just had my cataract fixed on my good eye, and as I am blind in the other eye, its taken a bit longer than usual to get back to looking at your blog, but now I've caught up. And very glad to see you've been fed well after living through another work week at the....well, I can't think of a term. I'll work on it. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - No paycheck again. Wonder if the business has a cash-flow problem and that is why Paul is avoiding giving out payroll. As a retired business owner, there is so much wrong with this place... you have the patience of a saint to have put up with it for this long. Have a nice weekend -- weather is supposed to be nice your way for the next couple of days. Lynn in Buffalo (not Kingston NY anymore).
ReplyDeleteI would not return Monday. 2 weeks?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if your mask doesn't protect you from the particulate matter, the Corona virus is 10,000 times smaller. Masks aren't designed to protect you, they are designed to protect other people from you.
