Exploring on a Rainy Day

Our Location today is Bushnell, Florida.

We still slept comfortably with the windows left ajar last night with the temperatures in the mid to upper 60’s F. Even with the threat of morning showers the skies were clear and the sun shining brightly when we were eating breakfast. After reading the morning blogs we decided to further explore Breezy Oaks Campground since we’ll be here for two weeks.
There are a number of trailers that have been parked for extended service with skirting, wooden steps and landscaping on their sites but there are many more that are only here for the snowbird season. The washrooms are clean and well kept attached to the clubhouse by the pool. The laundry room next door is more reasonable then our last stop with four washers and four dryers. The pool is clean and well maintained with lounging chairs available for those who enjoy soaking up the sun and a solar blanket to keep the water warm.
The clouds were slowly starting to fill the sky and since it was still early in the day we decided to take a ride and look around the metropolis of Bushnell. We didn’t need the GPS for that and this time we drove by the Walmart to look around the town. Of course as we arrived in town so did the rain showers.
Old Bushnell Courthouse.
There are a lot of empty commercial buildings in this town showing hard times when the market tanked in 2008. There is some construction taking place but nothing that would bring back the glory days of yesteryear anytime soon. The refurbishing of the Old Courthouse is the sign of a town not scared to hold onto their past in order to grow in the future.
Leaving Bushnell we continued past the ramp to I-75 to visit Floral City which was about ten miles down the road. As you approached the town it was like you were entering and enchanted forest as the old oak trees created a canopy over the road. Again we saw a small community that was determined to keep its spirits alive with many store fronts that had been changed recently.
The rain was starting to come with a bit more urgency also bringing with it the sounds of thunder and many lightning strikes. So we started heading back towards the trailer. Kathy tends to cringe at the sound of thunder as it brings with it lightning strikes that brings back memories of a childhood incident.
We stopped on a bridge to take this picture so the guy in the Kayak waved. People are so friendly around here.
Just before the ramp to I-75 we stopped at the Waffle House to have a snack. Well the snack turned into having a midday breakfast early supper. While we were inside the lightning was creating a show in the sky around us and the rain was trying to float the truck away but just as we were about to leave it almost stopped.
For the rest of the day we have been opening and closing the trailer windows between the showers. Kathy indulged her passion for reading while I continued making data entries on my computer.
Gentleman walking his cat on a leash and the cat was very mindful of his owner.
Just before sunset the skies have cleared and the gusty winds were gone allowing time for all the pet owners to take their furkids out for a stroll around the park. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. We have friends who travel with a beautiful white cat and they walk her with a leash. So funny to see.

  2. At least you didn't have outside activities that were ruined. You made the best of a rainy day. I used to have a cat when I was little that we tied up outside on a leash. My Mom didn't want him killing her birds and so he that is what we did. He became used to it just like a dog and loved being outside. Still it does look different.
