Happy Easter

Our Location today is Bushnell, Florida.

We were back to normal this morning sleeping in until nearly 8:00 this morning. It was still cool enough that we turned the furnace on for a single cycle just to warm the trailer to be comfortable. After only a few minutes of blog reading we were sitting down to enjoy a nutritiously filling Easter breakfast for two.
Pancakes with Strawberries and Whipped Cream.
During breakfast we were able to complete our plans for the day and scheduling what little time we would have left. This is the first year that we have not celebrated this event without our family but today we would be celebrating it with our extended RV family here at Breezy Oaks RV Park. The park was supplying Easter Ham with everyone else bringing side dishes.

So once we got dressed we immediately set to the task of making our contribution to dinner. Our dish was mentioned in the blog just the other day and is called Hawaiian Marshmallow Salad. We find it easier making it with canned fruit but it all has to be drained so the dish does not become too mushy. The juice drained will now become our morning drink of juice tomorrow. Then all the fruit must also be cut into small pieces. Finally add coconut and it is all mixed with small sized marshmallows and sour cream in a mixing bowl or pot being careful not to over stir causing the fruit to lose more juice. Once it was put in the serving tray it was then placed in the refrigerator to cool.
Completed Hawaiian Marshmallow Salad.
By this time we stopped for a light snack for lunch in order to keep Kathy’s sugar regulated.  Now we had time to relax by reading blogs and e-mails. Of course it wasn’t long before Kathy was back to researching RV parks for our stay in Florida next winter. She now has already confirmed two parks for January and February but the one park she had been looking at for March didn’t seem to have very much for us to do there and everything else is quite a distance from it.

Just before 2:00 we headed over to the clubhouse where everyone was already gathering. The place still had a bit of room but it was a good sized turnout. There was more food than if you had gone to a Smorgasbord. There were a number of side dishes besides salads and desserts. Most everyone after eating and visiting before they left were waddling back to their trailers.
I had half my plate empty before I thought to take a picture of it.
Kathy went back to her research while I changed my clothes and went outside to wash down our bicycles which like the trailer they never got cleaned since our arrival in Florida. Now we’ll be able to ride them for the short time we have left before returning home.
Kathy finally came outside after a while just to relax in the sunshine and talk to me wearing her Easter hat. As I was spraying her bicycle to rinse it with the hose a hard gust of wind came along and she got wet. She said I did it on purpose but if I had she’d have been a lot wetter than she was.

The temperature should be comfortable enough to sleep with the windows open tonight and climb to the low 80’s tomorrow. I’m sure we’ll find something to keep us busy. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Rubbing It The Right Way

Our Location today is Bushnell, Florida.

The other day I wrote about the park having it’s last musical jam of the winter season. Well this morning they had their last Saturday morning breakfast for the winter season. Since Kathy and I missed it last week (we slept in) so we made a point that we’d attend this week. There was only one problem! We had to get out of bed before 8:00 in order to attend. We never set the alarm but somehow we were awake by 7:30 were dressed and at the clubhouse by 8:00. It was a good thing because suddenly there was a line-up out the door as breakfast was only being served until 9:00.
It cost $3.00 for your choice of Pancakes or French toast with Bacon or Sausage with two eggs made to order and Biscuits with or without Gravy on it. You also got Orange Juice and Coffee plus the chance to visit with all the other park residents in attendance. In last night’s post I mentioned how friendly everyone was in the park and it’s that sense of caring that Kathy said would bring her back to this park.
Back at the trailer the outdoor temperature had risen to 45F (7C) so we read through the morning blogs before Kathy went back into her research mode. I headed outside to put things away in the basement. The weather forecast for this week is showing the possibility of showers for the later part of the week. Since that is when we’ll be leaving it makes more sense to put things away while they’re dry. By lunch time when I came in the temperature was 64F (18C) and warming. Now this is the weather we came to Florida to experience.
Lunch was Soup, Bagel with cream cheese and a Strawberry French Pastry.
When we arrived here in January we had road grim and salt residue from the trip getting here. We also managed to collect quite a bit of pollen and tree sap on the trailer and truck since our arrival. There were a couple of parks that allowed you to wash your trailer but something just got in the way and stopped me from doing it.
Well this afternoon Kathy went and sat in the shade of the trees across from our site while I scrubbed the dirt off the trailer. I had to lift our vent covers to clean the vent lids that had changed their color to a dull grey. The top of our slide covers were a color most people wouldn’t try to describe. By the time I finished working up on the roof the water in the pail needed to be emptied.
Four hours later the temperature was 77F (25C) Kathy had finished reading her book and our trailer was once again a bright white instead of a dingy grey. In the ten minutes it took us to make supper we were both feeling so tired because we normally sleep until nearly 8:00 in the mornings but it was worth it today.
Supper was Talapia, green beans and Spinach and buttered noodles.
Kathy and I would like to welcome David as new blog follower to our site. Unfortunately David doesn’t have any blogger information we read or can pass along on a shout out but if his profile ever changes we’ll be certain to pass it along.

We’d also like wish everyone and their families a Happy Easter for tomorrow. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

History Repeats Itself

Our Location today is Bushnell, Florida.

The weather continues to be cold enough for us to run our furnace at night dipping down into the upper 30’s. When we get up and it’s that cold we try not to rush outside. After enjoying our second cup of coffee with our breakfast; we had read all our morning blogs we follow and it was time to head out. The temps were into the mid 60’s with clear blue skies and by 10:30 our escape from the park took longer than expected.
The Live Oak tree Kathy is in front of is nearly 400 years old.
A few of the park’s winter residents came over to talk with us. Everyone is so friendly here not only wanting to know where you’re from but also making suggestions of things we can do in the area as well as other areas of the state of Florida that we might find interesting.
Kathy walking on the ground that the battle was fought.
Mike Bennett told us of how he and his wife Rae-Anne had traveled around the country Fulltiming in a motorhome for a number of years. They now have a trailer as a winter residence here at Breezy Oaks RV Park as well as another trailer in northern Indiana where they spend their summers. He apologized for keeping us so long and wished us a good day of exploring.
Kathy still walking where the battle took place.
Leaving the park I noticed another vehicle also heading out. We headed onto the I-75 highway and so did they. Arriving at the 314 cutoff we exited the highway and so did they. After arriving in Bushnell we noted it was after lunchtime so we stopped for a quick bite at Taco Bell. As we turned into the parking lot so did they. We thought they were following us but this is where things changed. As we got out of the truck a little furball ran out from the back seat of their truck and headed for the nearest tree for some much needed relief. We went inside to eat but never saw them the rest of the day.
Artifacts recovered from the battle site.
With lunch completed we headed only slightly further down the road into Bushnell before making a southbound turn that would take us to our intended destination the Dade Battlefield Historic State Park. The entry fee is three dollars per vehicle up to eight people and it’s an honor pay system. Once parked we entered the visitors center where we signed the guest book and then sat through a twelve minute re-enactment video that gives you the history behind this battle that took place on December 28th 1835.
Typical Woolen uniforms of US Army 1835.
Back in the early 1800’s as the settlers began moving into tribal territories that were home to Native Americans. The Seminole Tribes refused to give up their lands and started fighting back. On that fateful day only three soldiers of the U.S. army unit of 108 would live to tell of the battle.

In 1921 the state legislature designated this as a historic site and created it as a State Park. Along with markers within the park explaining how the battle took place there are also relics in the visitors center that were found on the site where the battle was fought. There are also pavilions and washrooms on site for groups that wish to make a day learning about the history of the event and every year in late December or Early January the battle is re-enacted.

On our return trip we stopped at Walmart for a few needed supplies. When we finally got back to our trailer most of the other RVers were enjoying Happy Hour. We decided to grill some hotdogs for supper and finished the Hawaiian Marshmallow Salad. There were no complaints from me.

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be better than it was today but we won’t complain about that. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Singing a Different Tune.

Our Location today is Bushnell, Florida.

This morning we were surprised to hear the furnace running but it was another cold night just hovering above the freezing mark so it was no wonder. Like yesterday within an hour of the sun rising the temperature had risen into the mid 50’s and this afternoon we were sitting outside in 73F (23C) sunshin.
This morning after breakfast Kathy continued researching parks that she felt we would be comfortable staying at next winter here in Florida. I continued reading all the recent blog posts on our side bar. As I’ve said before if it is on our side bar every time they have made a new blog post entry I read it. I don’t make comments very often unless I feel strongly about a subject or I am able to give mechanical input and I’m not too far behind on reading blogs. This morning was a lazy day morning because we had plans for this afternoon.

After lunch I called Nature Coast RV Center in Crystal River to ask if they had shipped out the parts we had ordered for our trailer. They confirmed that they had been shipped and delivered on March 15th a full week before our arrival here at Breezy Oaks. I then went to the office who again said they had not received my parcel. When I described the size of the package I happened to spot a box under another that fit the description. Mary’s face suddenly turned beet red as she read the name and started to apologize to me. This was the package that I had asked for every day this week.
That’s what happens when more than one person works in a small office and not everyone does the job the same way. When I got back to the trailer I immediately called the RV Center to confirm getting the package and thanking them for their service.

A number of RV Parks in the area set aside one day a week for musical jam sessions through the winter season. These musicians gathered here for the final time this season and had their final get together at Breezy Oaks RV Park in Bushnell this afternoon. The songs were mostly country music with a few gospel songs included for good measure but most brought back many a memory.

There is a covered outdoor stage where all the performers gather playing instruments such as guitars, violins, mandolins, banjos, steel guitars and keyboards. They all had a chance to be center stage with their vocal talents as well. There were even a few vocalists from the campground that came from the audience to add to the talent already on stage.

After a short break everyone returned to the stage to each give one more song. Finally they gave a thank you to many in the audience that have been here all season attending these jams as well as everyone else and hoping to see everyone again next year.

Kathy and I would like to welcome Robbye Howard as our latest blog follower. Unfortunately there is no blogger information to give a shout out for Robbye but if we see a change in his profile we’ll be certain to pass it along.
In response to a comment from Jill yes I know I’m a lucky man to have Kathy taking care of me. She always says a person eats with their eyes first, their sense of smell next and finally the taste. She also thinks you’re very creative in you crafts you make for the holidays.
