Better Than New, Overdue Move and Better News Than Expected.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada. 

After all the running around we did yesterday there was no question of whether or not we’d be able to sleep last night. Top that off with the windows being open throughout the evening the problem was staying awake long enough to post the blog. Once the computers were shut down and we lay our heads on our pillows the only thing we remembered was the alarm waking us up. 

Even though we were up by 8:00 this morning having breakfast the most pressing thing at that time was to respond to some voice messages we found waiting for us when we returned last evening. Once I’d finished calling everyone I called Jim at Windsor Gas and Diesel telling him about our concerns with the truck and his response was to bring it in.

We were soon on our way to Windsor and arrived at Windsor Gas and Diesel by 10:30. The last time Jim had replaced the Processor located behind the dash cluster and the truck has been running better than we can ever remember it doing. The major problem still left was that the processor would not recognize the remote start. When we ordered the truck we wanted the remote be installed at the factory but back then Ford would not do it because it was a truck. They did however have a remote that could be installed at the dealer with the Ford name attached. Since we were last there Jim did research and had the truck recognizing the remotes within minutes. I also have an aftermarket monitor that suddenly wasn’t working Brian the computer tech had that working in two minutes.

The last thing was the concern I mentioned earlier. Since getting the truck back with the new processor the Regeneration System that cleans the D.P.F. (Diesel Particulate Filter) has not turned on. Before the processor problem we might drive between fifty to eighty miles before it would engage. If we were towing the trailer or doing city driving it would happen more frequently. Both Brian and Jim said that was way too often and it should only happen when the D.P.F. gets filled which should happen after maybe two hundred miles of towing. With the new processor the truck is getting increased fuel economy and power to spare. (The dealership always told us there was nothing wrong with the truck. Liars!) We are happy that Jim runs a reputable business.

It was nearly 11:30 when we left Windsor Gas and Diesel Kathy was starting to feel hungry so we stopped at The Back Road Café. Their food is always fresh, tasty, plentiful and the service is fantastic. We both ordered off the breakfast menu. Leaving there I saw what someone had did with their 350 Dually to make it stand out. 

Since it was only after 12:00 we stopped at the Market Square just to get some walking in and to freshen ourselves up a bit. Our next stop was downtown for a visit with my aunt Anna and uncle Bob. They were given a week’s free stay at a local Retirement Home. Since Bob’s health has been deteriorating the last few years their children have been after them to move back to the Windsor area from London so if something happened the children would be able to help out. They gave us the grand tour and if we ever stop Fulltiming a place like that might be considered. They won’t have to cook, or clean, there are all kinds of activities to keep them busy, there are bus outings so they won’t need a car, their monthly charge is less than just the rent they are presently paying, there is a doctor that comes to the home every week so they don’t have to find a new family doctor and the best thing is it’s close to the kids. They’ll be moving in on November 20^th. We’ll be able to visit more often when we get back in the spring.

We’d only driven a few blocks after leaving when we thought we should find out if the Airbags had arrived. Parking on a side-street we called Andrew at Vehicle Venture. He said they hadn’t arrived yet but he explained that our old ones should not have worn out so easily and that he was trying to get Firestone to cover them under warranty. The new ones should be in on Friday. 

The next call went to Jim at Windsor Starter Powerhouse in response to a message we received yesterday. He found a 3,000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter for us that would actually cost more buying it in the US. After getting the information about it to check online I said I’d call him tomorrow.

It was only 4:30 but after the last few days we stopped at Arby’s to have our supper. The best part was we had coupons so that helped to cut our costs.
