Don’t Count On It and Getting It Fixed.

If there is one thing I have learned from this job is to not believe you know what you will be working on from one day to the next. Last night when I left for home I believed that making certain the Snowplow would be ready for any upcoming storms was my priority. When I walked in this morning there was a huge Commercial Refrigerator sitting outside the Maintenance Compound. The moment I got close to it Paul appeared smiling ear to ear.

I’ve mentioned that Paul owned a number of Industrial Businesses before but when the Economy fell like a rock in 2008 he almost lost them all. He lost Five of his businesses but a Dedicated Employee loaned Paul the money that kept the Manufacturing Plant going. The reason was to save other employees jobs as well. After recovering from that Paul started purchasing Residential Properties and upgrading many to Multi-Tenant Dwellings for students at the University. They are rented totally furnished with Common Areas such as the Kitchen and Living Room.

Yesterday after I left Paul received a call saying the Fridge at the one building had just stopped working. After checking it out he went to a nearby Second-Hand Shop that carried appliances. All the Fridges were too small and when he said that to the shop owner he brought him to the back room. Here was this Commercial Refrigerator and it was priced the same as the others on the floor. The advantage of this large unit was all the Tenants would have plenty of space for their own food.

This morning when Paul went to open the door to show me inside the front Caster suddenly buckled. Paul had to hold it upright while I got Wooden Blocks to put under it. It looked like someone tried running it on Crushed Stone. My job was now to fix the Frame where the Casters were mounted. I added Flat-Bar and Stitch Welded it in place. Those wheels won’t be twisting off any time soon.

The only thing Kharen said to me all day was “Is it working” and then he left. The Cleaning Lady that scrubs down the Appliances at the Plant and cleans at the Student Homes doesn’t think they’ll get it in the Kitchen.

Besides a few other small tasks I spent the remainder of the shift recovering some Valves from old equipment in the Warehouse.

It felt good to be home. For supper we kept it lite with a Store Bought Medium Thin Crust Vegetarian Pizza.

The 6 o’clock Local News reported 82 New Coronavirus Cases bringing the Active Cases to 533 for the Windsor/Essex Region. As I’ve said before the numbers posted here were those given over the air and I have no idea how they come up with them. Another thing that was brought up tonight as part of the broadcast was that with all the different Variants presently circulating that people are still getting sick from the Coronavirus but are not Dying from it when they are Vaccinated.

The Weather Network showed we had a high temperature today of 39 F (4 C) feeling like 30 F (-1 C) since the Wind was exceeding Thirty MPH.

More Leaks, Ruined Valves and More Assignments.

I was getting discouraged that no matter what I did the problem just wasn’t getting resolved so it was nice to see no Leak flooding the floor on the Pump that we installed the Steel Flange on Saturday. After completing my Morning Walk Around the only thing I got were more measurements for upcoming jobs and some Trash that was quickly disposed of.

I was busy repairing a couple of Carriers when Kharin came in. Rather then tell you what the job he wants you to work on he has you follow him like a Dog might follow his owner. (That’s going to end real soon.) There was another Leak to repair on the Reverse Osmosis System but this time it was on another Pump.

I made certain there were replacement parts before going in for the quick fix of just tightening the connections in case the Fittings just snapped. Kharen said to let him know when I needed to shut the System but when I went looking for him he was nowhere to be found. Instead Avry worked the System while I tightened the connection. With the Leak fixed there was added pressure in the System causing it to leak about Three Feet further up the line. Like the job I reworked on Saturday whoever had piped this in had not thought ahead to be able to isolate One Pump from the Other and the Main Valve coming from the Thousand Gallon Tank would not completely close. After speaking with Paul he told me “Fix it right and make it work”.

After talking to Kathy at lunch I was busy calling our contact at Windsor Factory Supply. Last week when I was given the job to make the Vertical Pipes for the Number 5 Station in the Washer they were premature in thinking they would be installed on the weekend. They also miscounted how many Pipes would be needed and came up quite short. After hearing that I counted the Pipes myself on the weekend and made certain to order a few extra pieces so we won’t be short when they are finally installed.

Still trying to deal with the Reverse Osmosis Leak I went scavenging in the Warehouse. Since Paul tends to be overly frugal I believe he likes that I am not scared to recycle used materials. There was an old Paint Manifold that had at least Three Dozen Valves the exact size I was looking for but the first thing I did was try to turn one off. Then another and another and another until I had tried them all. Whoever had shut down that Paint Manifold didn’t bother to purge the system and left it full of Paint. The Paint with time hardened making the entire system garbage.

When I told Paul he could only shake his head in disbelief and told me to order what I needed. He also assigned me the job of getting the Pickup with the Snowplow ready to use tomorrow.

It felt good to be home but while I was talking with Kathy my Cell Phone rang. It was Milan from Windsor Factory Supply telling me about a delay with some of the parts. I think it’s funny but at the same time sensible that Paul is allowing me to order what I need as the Company Maintenance Man because Kharen really doesn’t have a clue. Being a Certified Tradesman has its advantages.

For supper we enjoyed Grilled Chicken and Acorn Squash topped off by a slice of Carrot Cake for dessert.

The 6 o’clock Local News reported 82 New Coronavirus Cases of which 12 were Unvaccinated bringing the Active Cases to 498 for the Windsor/Essex Region.

The Weather Network showed we had a high temperature today of 36 F (2 C) feeling like 28 F (-2 C). We could see more moderate temperatures for a few days this week before it gets cold again.

Cleaned Up, Getting Support and Finding A Purse.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

I’ve found that if I don’t vary my sleep hours too much it is easier on my personal metal and physical well being. Looking back as a child I couldn’t understand why my father always wanted to go to 7:00 Sunday Mass waking the rest of us before our normal wake up time. He was doing it for his benefit forgetting about the rest of us. Since I slept an Hour later yesterday getting up at 6:30 I did the same today.

I had a dream that by doing so I could get my morning chore completed early opening the rest of the day to share with Kathy. The chore was doing the Laundry and after sorting everything in the Apartment it was a quick start when I got down to the Laundry Room. Since they are open Twenty-Four Seven I wasn’t surprised to find a Dryer running when I arrived.

Back at the Apartment I had just turned on my Computer after getting things ready for breakfast when Kathy joined me. We finished eating our English Muffins before taking our Hot Chocolates over to the Computers. Mine had some cool down time while I went to move our clothes from the Washers to the Dryers. I managed to get a lot read while the Dryers did their thing.

I was happy to be putting away the Folded Laundry by 10:30 so I was able to see what most of our Canadian and American Snowbirds were doing to make me jealous. I noted not only the good things most are enjoying but also the trying times some are having with their RVs and Vehicles which seemed to bring back memories of similar incidents that we went through ourselves.

The best part of the morning was when the Sun broke through the Clouds that we have been plagued with for the last few days. Forecasts showed things would green up by this afternoon. Even though the temperature was high enough the breeze managed to keep the White Ground Cover in place.

We needed a piping hot bowl of Split Pea with Ham Soup to warm us at lunch time along with another Hot Drink with an Orange and Fruit Cake for dessert. We let lunch settle before heading out the door. Since Kathy is more susceptible to the cold she stayed in the Apartment while I cleaned both the Car and Truck. When that was completed I simply called her on the phone before driving to the rear door to pick her up.

We needed to go to both Micheal’s and Princess Auto. With a recent move they are now neighbours sharing the same building. To save time Kathy went to Michael’s to get a special glue that will keep patches on my Coveralls from pealing off while I went to Princess Auto to get tools that were “Half Price” to replace more of the ones I had stolen. Having purchased many of them many Years ago I was surprised at the dramatic increase in their value.

We were soon headed back to the Dollarama we always patronize. Along with the usual Food Stocks we normally purchase here we were on the hunt for something else. Since Kathy has been wearing the Knee Supports we purchased there she has been having less issues with her Knees. I’ve also noticed that after days where I spend most of them on my Knees even with the Knee Pads they have been bothering me. For the low cost of the Knee Supports at Dollarama she encouraged me to get a pair to help me recover and I encouraged her to to get another pair as a Backup. Would you believe they only had Two Packages instead of the Six we wanted.

Going to Zehr’s grocery store we got everything else on our Shopping List and were out of there in a flash.

We were about to leave when I mentioned needing new Running Shoes for the Winter so we drove across the road to Walmart. The last Two Winters I had worn the Safety Boots I am now wearing at work. When they were purchased they were not a Perfect fit but the Best fit at the time and my feet have been telling me so. Finding the Perfect fit in my size as I sat to try them on we noticed someone’s Purse sitting on the Bench. While I got in line to purchase the new Safety Boots Kathy brought the Purse to the Service Desk. Before I was checked out the young woman was thanking us for handing in her Purse.

All that shopping worked up our appetites and we still had to put everything away. We went to Arby’s Drive-Thru where we ordered their Greek Gyros for supper. We sat in the Car in their parking lot to eat them hot. As we ate we could see heavy Clouds started filling the sky again.

We stopped at the Dollarama that is closest to our building. We were hoping that by chance they might have those Knee Supports in stock. We lucked out as they were just stocking their shelves.

Before we could get everything unloaded at our building it was starting to Snow again. Kathy got things put away in the Fridge while I got the Canned Goods and other Food Stocks put away which meant kneeling on a hard Ceramic Floor without Knee Pads. I’ll be using those Knee Supports tomorrow.

The 6 o’clock Local News only reported Provincial Coronavirus Cases and the growing fear of more Restrictions being imposed because of the new South African Variant that is infecting people who have been Double Vaccinated.

The Weather Network showed we had a high temperature today of 37 F (3 C) feeling like 27 F (-3 C). We could see more moderate temperatures for a few days this week.
