Making Adjustments but Good To Be Home.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Even though it was not quite two weeks ago that we traveled to London, Ontario to do some visiting our stay in the Hotel didn’t feel anywhere like staying in our daughter Karen’s home did last night. First the Hotel room was much smaller than just their living room. Second it has been quite a while since either of us have heard the tapping of pet’s toenails on the floor at night. Third poor Sanford was so happy not to be alone that it didn’t matter which one of us left a room he stuck to us like glue.
Knowing that Sanford has never seen anyone wearing a CPAP mask we had to come up with a plan so he wouldn’t think some alien had just taken over our bodies. We each made certain that he watched us apply the mask and spoke to him as we did it. That didn’t stop him from standing at alert before sniffing our legs before he relaxed.
Sanford ready for a walk.
The saying “There no place like Home” still held true because when we began our Fulltiming Adventure and moved our trailer to Wildwood Golf and RV Park we no longer had to listen to the dozens of emergency Sirens going by in an evening. While living in the apartment we were hardened to that but not now. Another thing we don’t hear at the park are trains. Again while in the apartment we heard quite a few each day sounding their horns as the approached crossings. Where Karen’s home is located the moderate speed Via passenger train passes only feet from her backyard and because of its speed the whistle is sounded long and hard many times a day and night.
It wasn’t the worst night’s sleep we’ve had but it truly wasn’t the best so it was nearly 8:00 this morning when we got up. With a fenced in yard it was easy to let Sanford do his thing while we started prepping his and our breakfast. After eating we didn’t have the same amount of time to read at the computers because someone impatiently wanted to play. Of course he had me more tired than himself so there was only one other thing that could be done, take him for a walk
Our sky at Supper Time.
As soon as we took his collar and leash from the closet Sanford almost bowled me over so that I’d put it around his neck. As soon as I open the door to head out Sanford also felt that it was his duty to grab the leash in his mouth and start leading. It took some doing but I finally got him to slow down and let me lead the way. Another thing we are out of practice is cleaning up after our friends but I managed. After our two-mile walk in warm temperatures was over I finally got a chance to finish my morning reading with one very tired little guy sleeping at my feet.
Around 2:00 this afternoon Karen called to let us know her friend that we were filling in for would be able to stay with Sanford for tonight. We could have stayed but being tired from our restless night of sleep we agreed. Luckily Sanford was playing with his buddy Allen another Furkid, so we wanted to get everything packed up and load it in the car to avoid some of the sad eyed puppy look we’d be getting later.
Our last chance to play today.
Once we called Sanford for supper, we left him in the air conditioned house while we went out for Chinese food. The place we went was right next door to the apartment building we just moved from back in April. The service was fast and courteous, plus both are meals tasted great with enough left over for another meal all at a very reasonable price. After supper we returned to Zehrs grocery store where Kathy used her list of things we were running low on back at the trailer.
At Karen’s home we took Sanford out for another run in the backyard but as soon as we got inside we got the look that said he knew were leaving. Even with our explaining that Joe was coming over he just lay by the stairs on his blankey and watched us leave. We even felt sad!
The sky on our way Home.
It was past 8:00 when we got Home and I’d barely got in from unloading the car when the skies opened up and the rain came down. It then took another hour to set up all our equipment so we would feel like we were Home again. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Moving On and We Weren’t There

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

We haven’t got a clue what happen last night but we both slept so soundly that it was nearly 8:30 by the time we woke up this morning. Even after we’d been up for a few minutes it still felt that we were walking in a fog. Once our breakfast was over we did spend a short while getting caught up on reading our E-mails before packing up.
Sanford with his Blankey. (Should have been called Linus)
That’s right I had to pack up our computers and Turbo Hub while Kathy gathered a few food stocks that she didn’t want to spoil if we were to leave them in the fridge. The reason she was gathering these was to bring them along where we could consume them within the next couple days. By the time I finished packing up our pillows and CPAP equipment it wasn’t long after that we were on our way out the door.
Today our journey was taking us only fifteen minutes from our Home. We were on our way to our daughter Karen’s home to not only house sit but to spend time taking care of our grandfurchild Sanford while his family was gone away for a few days. As soon as we arrived we were barraged with sloppy doggy kisses and being fanned by a wagging tail that could barely be seen. After bringing our belongings into the house and getting things set up we now had a very curious little doggy on our hands because we have never stayed overnight before.
Sanford playing football.
We all went outside in hopes of giving Sanford some playtime. When we lived in the apartment we used to take him for walks as well as playing ball with him but today was different. Today we weren’t in any rush so he seemed to relax. We’d been told to make ourselves at home so when Kathy saw some bananas that were about to go bad she looked at what she could make for supper. Not finding all the ingredients needed to create her masterpiece I was sent with a list to the Zehrs grocery store.
Luckily Greg our son-in-law has a big barbecue, since we didn’t bring our Weber Q with us, so I was busy grilling a zucchini and some spare ribs for our supper when we got a phone call on our home phone system, from our son Gary. He is in the process of finding a home in the area so that he can move his family back from Welland. This weekend our daughter-in-law Jennifer and the kids had also come to visit the area. Today they were also attending a Stag and Doe for friends they have known for years and it was taking place at the Co-an Park just up the street from Wildwood Golf and RV Park and they had thought they would just drop in for a quick visit. If we’d have known that they were coming this weekend we could have made other plans. After explaining where we are and why we apologized but Gary said not to worry and we’d get together another time.
Sanford with his blankey staying close
The meal tasted great and we had the dishes washed before we had to deal with watching the News on a complicated TV setup. Sanford is finally starting to relax but still can’t figure out why we’re getting ready to sleep over. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Making More Progress Inside Than Out, Another Trailer Viewing and Great Hidden Restaurant.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

With all the running around we did yesterday it was no wonder that we both nearly passed out when our heads hit our pillows but it did result in a very restful sleep which also meant that we were both awake by 8:00 this morning. Referencing the calendar hanging on the wall we knew we could take our time getting things done without being in a rush.

With breakfast complete and the important reading finished the next thing to do was watering the grass while Kathy did some reading. In doing so allowed me the opportunity to see our neighbour Larry and personally thank him for the gifted tomatoes. When asked about the grass he confessed it wasn’t him but the Park’s lawn maintenance people who did it. He also mentioned that they had used smaller home type lawnmowers instead of the large machine that had been doing more damage than good around the mowing sites.
For lunch Kathy used one of those tomatoes to make sandwiches for lunch. Again she is in the process of using up foods in the trailer that could spoil over the weekend because we’ll be going away for a few days and we feel wasted food is the same as throwing our money away.

When lunch was over Kathy busied herself doing expense entries on our expenditure spreadsheet. Since the Weather Network had forecasted severe storm warnings for today and the darkening sky seemed to back up that prediction I started working on data entries from another file I’ve been working on. By getting these entered on file before we leave for the southwest this fall means the hardcopies can be left behind in our storage unit. As the weather becomes more favourable I’ll be spending more time working outside rather than in.
By 2:00 this afternoon we were surrounded by distant thunder but did share in the rainfall which helped drop the 95 F (35 C) Humidex. The wind was no issue but by watching on the computer we were able to see the rotation of the storm allowing us to know when to expect each round of rain before it arrived.

Shortly after 3:30 we arrived back at Sun Parlour Trailers to have a look at another fifth wheel that Rob had just gotten in as a trade. The person that brought it in had told him that he paid to have the trailer cleaned before bringing it in. We saw it at the same time he did and we all agreed that if the trailer had been cleaned it was the owner that got taken to the cleaners. It was also much older than we planned to go with so he’ll keep his eyes peeled for us.
It was nearly 5:00 when we left so we headed to Amherstburg to have supper. Since we are still trying to get the feel of what is available in this small community we continue to explore for new possibilities. Our daughter-in-law Melissa had suggested a small little restaurant called Mealtime Express located near Walmart. When we first drove by the density of their reflective sunscreen window shades made us think the place was abandoned. On the second drive pass I could see people’s legs sitting by the window. Kathy and I were soon inside and pleasantly surprised at this quaint little place. The service was quick and polite, the food hot, tasty and plentiful, and it was priced reasonably. When we first arrived there were maybe a dozen customers but by the time we left there was at least thirty people filling the tables. We’ll definitely be going back.
After a quick stop at Dollarama for a few small supplies we were soon on our way Home. The rain returned shortly after we got inside but at least there is no thunder with it. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Getting Checked Out, Showing We Care and Thoughtful Neighbours.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Something actually went right last night when we both managed to sleep soundly until this morning waking up feeling refreshed. We were up shortly after 8:00 and finished our breakfast and morning reading shortly after 9:30. Once the grass had been watered we left Home by 10:00.
Hey Alice it's the Paparazzi back there.
Kathy had an appointment this morning in Tecumseh at a Hearing Clinic and we weren’t sure of the address location. Even after heading in the wrong direction towards the town center a quick turnaround had us crossing the expressway where an immediate turn into the plaza brought us to our destination. We were an entire half hour early but as the receptionist said the paperwork would use up that time.
These guys were tweeting their cellmates.
Back in her early years Kathy had suffered from earaches and the doctors would recommend warmed olive oil as a cure. Unfortunately, the last time it was done with hot oil that scarred her eardrum. Recently, she has been having problems hearing different things so she thought it was time to get it checked out. The results showed some hearing loss but it also showed that she presently has liquid buildup behind the eardrum. With that information she needs to see her family doctor again before returning to the clinic.
Ignore her, she'll go away.
It was only 11:30 when we arrived at Kathie’s apartment after a brief conversation we stole her away. The place we took her to was the Michigan Diner on Tecumseh Road where we made certain she had a decent meal. Our meals were all great and even though Kathie ate some of it she had to take the rest of it home for her supper. Kathy and I went through the same problems after the loss of our late spouses and it took someone to show they cared for us that finally got us back to eating normally. We hope that giving Kathie that same type of support will help her to recover after losing her husband Ross.
After filling our stomachs, we had a few more errands to run with Kathie. The first was to Home Depot where she needed to pick up some paint as she wants to add some accenting to different parts of her apartment. Next we went to the Pet Store where she needed to get some supplies for her pet birds.
We then dragged Kathie along as we checked for our mail at Guardian Storage before going to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit. The container that I was certain was there was not so it was time to return to her apartment.
Floppy-eared rabbit.
The first thing I did while there was to assemble her new bedframe. The old one just decided to fold up after many years of use. With a little assistance the box-spring and mattress were soon in position making it easier for Kathie with her bad knee to be able to use the bed.
If you recall in yesterday’s post that I’d used the tablesaw last night to cut a sill plate. It was now time to install that sill plate but first I had a bunch of old rusted screws to get out of the frame. There was no way two of those screws were coming out using a screwdriver or pliers and they were in a spot that bending them with a hammer would only cause more problems. Not having my tools with me the only answer was to go to Canadian Tire and buy a pair of Vise-Grips. Even then those two screws only came out one quarter of a turn at a time using those Vise-Grips all the way.
Once I’d finished that job I joined Kathy and Kathie in the living room to cool down and continue a previous conversation. It was nearly 6:00 when we finally said our good byes but we’ve already made plans to help her with a few more projects.

When we finally got Home we found a couple of flower pot grown tomatoes sitting on our picnic table. Every day when I water our grass and plants I also take the time to water the neighbour’s flower pot garden so this was a little thank you like the delicious beans we received a while back.
Since the Humidex was only 99 F (37 C) after 8:00 I decided it was a good time to water the grass however as I started to do so I noticed someone had mowed our grass. Since we are on the Do Not Mow list at the office I can only presume one of our neighbours did it for us. We have good neighbours that help one another at this park. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Considering Changes.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Having had problems sleeping the entire night lately I thought staying up later would help. Kathy was already in bed by 11:30 so once I’d posted the blog I busied myself making the last twenty-eight data entries into my file. When I first started the job my eyes were already getting heavy but wanting to finish the file I figured by completing the task I would surely sleep the entire night. I finally got to bed at approximately 1:15 but my plan had backfired, instead of falling fast to sleep I was then wide awake. After finally falling asleep looking at the clock every half hour became the norm. I was wide awake by 7:30 but as I write this post feel totally exhausted.

After completing our morning reading both Kathy and I were on the computers doing similar research but heading in totally different directions. Since we have only started our Fulltiming Adventure Kathy thought we’d look at possibly downsizing our present trailer in another five years. After we discussed what kind of trailer we would be looking for we started searching the web where we got plenty of ideas.
Tomato rice soup and salad for lunch.
Since we weren’t too active this morning Kathy thought it would be wise to have a light lunch to keep our intake down so we simply had a bowl of soup and the last of the salad that was in the fridge. We also continued our discussion that waiting to trade our unit in would lower its resale value. We are not in an extreme hurry but decided why wait to start looking so if we find something soon I can personalize it before we hit the road.
Why are the golfers parked here.
There are plenty of RV dealerships in our area but there is only one that we really trust to be treated fairly. Shortly after 3:00 we arrived at Sun Parlour Trailer in Amherstburg to put our plan in effect. When Rob saw us he first thought we were there to visit but Kathy changed the tone of things when she said we were there on business. We looked at a number of slightly used trailers he had in stock and found one worth considering. Since he has other trailers coming soon as trade-ins he suggested looking back later.
Because all these parking spots were filled.
After spending over an hour out in the 100 F (38 C) Humidex we thought it was easier just to have supper in Amherstburg. Looking around we finally stopped at Gilligan’s for our meal where this gave us a chance to rest up inside an Air Conditioned building. This also gave us a chance to further discuss the trailers that we’d seen. We started listing things that we’ll need to get ready before heading south this fall even if it is with this trailer.

It was nearly 5:30 when we arrived at our son Kevin and daughter-in-law Melissa’s home for our weekly Wednesday evening visit. We talked about a number of things such as their house hunting and our thoughts of downsizing the trailer before Kevin and I went outside to the garage. I needed to use his table-saw to cut a new sill plate for our friend Kathie’s apartment window. If the landlord had fixed it for her he would have charged her to do it because he claimed she damaged it. She had an old shelf from an old cabinet that was in excellent shape and the saw made quick work of changing its size. It was after 8:00 when we left after another enjoyable visit.

Back Home after letting Kathy into the trailer I took care to water our grass and plants. Tomorrow we have some errands to run but we don’t have to set an alarm clock. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

There Are Health Benefits To Fulltiming and Needing A Quick Recalibration.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

Last night both Kathy and I suffered from what we’ll refer to as Broken Sleep Syndrome. We already know the cause of it as well, we had set the alarm clock so we wouldn’t sleep in. Just knowing that in the back of our minds we continually woke throughout the entire night.

When the alarm finally went off at 7:45 we simply got dressed and headed out the door by 8:10 without having any breakfast. Our destination was Kathy’s family doctor in Windsor. As soon as the doors were unlocked Kathy was the first patient to sign in at 8:50 and was the first called in at 9:03.

Over the last few years that we had been going south for the winter months Dr. Sherman had noticed a slight improvement in Kathy’s health. Today after checking Kathy’s vital signs she was amazed at what she was seeing so she asked Kathy what she was doing. Kathy told her about our going Fulltime which has reduced her stress, allowing her to occasionally exercise and making her more relaxed. Her doctor was so impressed she said she didn’t need any bloodwork today as well to keep up what we are doing and to enjoy life. I think more doctors should be telling their patients the same thing.
Kathy’s appointments and test normally take nearly an hour. Leaving there by 9:30 with other errands to run we first went to have breakfast at A&W. They have great breakfasts that are cooked fresh the way you like and brought to your table at a reasonable price. The headaches we were getting from being hungry quickly disappeared.
Our next stop was at Guardian Storage where the first thing we got was the mail and not just any mail but a letter from the Canadian Cancer Clinic saying Kathy’s recent tests her doctor had sent her for had come out negative. Good news twice in one day. We then went back to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit where we had a few things to get so that I can work on the car and to drop off the last of the Early Christmas gifts that Kathy had finished wrapping. By leaving them there it eliminates any accidental exposure to unexpected guests.
We then went to VitalAire to order more of the full face mask liners because of the allergy I have developed to the material the masks are made from. While there we also heard they now have longer hoses so the next time we get our supplies that’s what we’ll be getting. We also discussed how we’ll get our supplies before we head south for the winter.
Finally, for the moment that Kathy and I had been waiting for the last three weeks we headed over to Windsor Gas and Diesel to pick up the truck. After a brief talk with Jim we were soon on our way Home with Kathy following in the car.

The truck was running good and I glanced to make certain the proper lights on the dash were lit when suddenly the speedometer caught my eye. I was traveling at the same speed as traffic around me 60 Kmh. but the odometer was showing I was traveling more than double the speed. I found the nearest parking lot to pull into where I told Kathy we were going back and why. She couldn’t believe it.
This how fast the truck was going while standing still.
Years ago there used to be a cable from the transmission to the speedometer but not today. Today there is a sensor on the transmission that sends a signal to the dash where a tiny electric motor spins the speedometer. When we got back to Windsor Gas and Diesel I signaled Brad the mechanic who had reassembled the dash. Telling him to look at the speedometer while the truck was in the Park mode it was still reading 80 Kmh. while it was just sitting still idling. When he had reassembled the dash he had checked it with the meter but didn’t road test it. Hooking the truck up to the computer he had it recalibrated in five minutes. After a brief road-test we were finally heading Home.
Another thing the automakers of diesel engines have developed over the years is a D.P.F. (Diesel Particulate Filter) or a Catalytic type filter for diesels. I’d just turned back onto Walker Road when it activated on the truck. If you shut them down prematurely the filters become clogged. It was still going by the time we reached Home so we ended up in Essex before it shut down. Since it was then 1:00 in the afternoon we stopped at Tim Horton’s where we each had a Panini sandwich for lunch.

Since the Humidex was still 102 F (39 C) by the time we got Home I continued on my data entries while Kathy busied herself doing research on the computers. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

More Hot Weather, The Truck Is Ready and A Change Of Plans.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

The bad habit was back again last night. After only a couple of hours sleep I was once again taking a Tylenol and sitting at the computer in hopes that I’d soon be able to go back to bed. Due to Kathy’s allergies during this high heat the only way she can survive is to close the windows and run the Air Conditioner. When the temperatures were bearable we both slept soundly the entire night with the windows open. We are so looking forward to cooler temperatures and then maybe I’ll sleep every night. The Humidex at 3:00 this morning was still at 99 F (37 C) so there was no reason to wonder why the A.C. was still running at that time.

Just before I returned to bed this morning our area was hit by a severe thunderstorm. It pounded the trailer for well over an hour but by morning the only evidence was the standing water on the patios. After breakfast I decided to check the rain gauge we have planted in our Fairy Garden. Looking at the gauge it showed we received seven eighths of an inch of rain. Looking inside the Fairy Garden the water was level to the top of the rim.
This evening's Sunset.
Shortly after lunch I headed over to do our laundry in the Park Laundry Room. Surprisingly for a Monday there were only a few people doing their cleaning. The fact that the Humidex was only 104 F (40 C) might have had something to do with it. Around 2:00 Kathy called my cell phone telling me the truck was ready. She had been indisposed when the message came in so I called Jim at Windsor Gas and Diesel to get more information. The part came in while they were having lunch so that was the first thing they worked on afterwards. There had been a couple of broken solder joints and a burnt crystal. Now everything is working according to their meters and the truck fired up the instant they turned the key. The entire cost is less than using a new Processor from Ford and it now has a lifetime warrantee. Since we are going to Windsor tomorrow we’ll pick the truck up then.
Brisket Burger with sauerkraut, Greek Salad and fruit cup.
Back at the trailer it felt good to be where it was cool for a while even as we put our folded clothes away. Around 5:00 while Kathy busied herself making a wonderful Greek Salad I was outside grilling a couple of Brisket Burgers on our Weber Q. Even with the heat set on low each time I closed the lid it only took a minute for the heat to reach four hundred degrees inside.

Making Use of Indoor Time and Fun Family Celebration.

Our Location today is McGregor, Ontario, Canada.

I am hoping that this does not become a habit. It seems lately the only way that I’m getting a full night of sleep is to proceed it with a restless one. Kathy it seems as soon as her head hits the pillow the next thing she remembers is waking up in the morning.
Kathy with granddaughter Kylla.
After another late start to breakfast we finally got to the computers by 9:00 this morning. Having already glanced outside at the sky I knew things weren’t too promising. Checking the Weather Network only confirmed my suspicions and within a half hour we only had to watch the drizzling rain covering our neighbour’s patio. That meant the grass was being watered by nature and I could spend most of the day doing data entries on my computer.
For lunch Kathy made certain there would be nothing in the fridge that would spoil so after she recreated a few things we had an early but tasty lunch. Kathy insisted on doing the dishes by herself while I continued copying the particular file even though the rain had finally stopped.
Sanford wondering why Kylla and Ashley are posing like that.
At 2:30 we were on our way to Windsor where our first stop at Guardian Storage netted us the end of the week’s mail which contained a Thank You from our friend Kathie for what we did to make the Memorial Celebration a success. Strangely from the storage yard we were headed back to Kathie’s apartment where I had to remeasure a sill plate that I was going to make for her. With everything going on the day of the Memorial for Ross I had failed to mark things down so of course I forgot the exact sizes.
We couldn’t stay long because we were on our way to our daughter Karen’s home for our granddaughter Kylla’s twenty-first birthday celebration. Even with the morning showers we had the Humidex was still 108 F (42 C) by 4:30 so we felt quite comfortable sitting inside the Air Conditioned house. Our son-in-law Greg was busy outside smoking Spare Ribs and grilling Chicken Kabobs. Soon Greg’s parents Ray and Rose as well as Kevin and Melissa arrived with Cameron and Matthew. Karen had been busy sautéing a number of vegetable dishes and making a great Caesar’s Salad.
The expression says it all.
The food was all delicious and the temptation to go back for seconds was great but I only had seconds on the salad and baked beans. As most of us were finishing our meal Kylla’s sister Ashley and her boyfriend Derek finally arrived after having just gotten off of work.
Sanford looking for his gift.
Letting our meal digest it was Kylla’s turn to open her gifts which she was more than appreciative of. Sandford kept looking in the gift bags and it wouldn’t be until later that we knew what he was doing. Every year at Christmas he gets his own gifts and with a little help finishes opening them himself so he was looking for his gift. Don’t forget he is a Furkid as well. After enjoying a tasty piece of cake along with a cup of Tea, it was past 8:00 by the time everyone started saying their goodbyes. After arriving Home I’ve since E-mailed pictures to both Kylla and Karen.
Hopefully we’ll soon be hearing some positive news about the truck so that I can get some of the work done on it that I need to do. We are also looking forward to some slightly cooler temperatures that are supposed to be heading to our area. Finally, we are also going to be adding something new to our Krackers section of our blog because we believe many can use a few Words of Inspiration.
