Laughter, Chores and More!

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Even though Kathy and I seem to be getting some sleep the quality of it is not enough to sustain us for any extended periods of time. We were fortunate enough to not sleep late this morning as we had appointments. After watching the Weather Channel while we had our cereal and coffee for breakfast Kathy finished getting things ready for later today while I took my morning shower.

We arrived at Fantastic Sam’s earlier than our scheduled appointment for our haircuts but since it was a slow day Jenna was still able to take us early. The advantage of the both of us getting our hair cut at the same place is that after five haircuts you get the sixth one free. So they stamp the card twice when we both go there and they charge me the same as my old retired barber did and gave me the same quality of haircut.

Kathy wasn’t completely happy with the new wallet she got at Walmart yesterday so we stopped at the Devonshire Mall and went to Bentley’s. They sell luggage, purses and wallets and we did find one that better suited Kathy’s needs. We stopped at the food court and decided on a snack tray from Kentucky Fried Chicken for lunch.

Back at the apartment Kathy went straight to work wrapping the Christmas Gifts that we had picked up last week since there’s only 146 days left before the big day. I was on the phone getting the new Turbo Hub connected. I called tech support and they soon had me hooked up but explained that the representative at the Bell outlet should have done this for me.
Next I was calling another couple of internet providers as well as Bell seeing what the cost of a simple phone line and a DSL connection would cost us. The reason for that is if we run all our computers at home it uses up more than our plan on the Turbo Hub offers. After discussing the results with Kathy we decided to order a phone line and DSL from Bell. Even though it was seven dollars a month more than the lowest when the rep setting up the account and found out we were already Bell customers we got a discount that made it cheaper than the competitors. We’ll still be using the Turbo hub for the phone and for the internet when we are travelling in Canada.

After grilling a couple of hamburgers for supper on the Weber Q we did the dishes before heading out for our Wednesday night visit with Kevin and Melissa. We had our usual enjoyable visit where we talked of what is happening with the grandchildren and life in general. Of course Melissa kept us rolling in stitches nearly the whole time we were there.

Tomorrow the weather should improve so after a few chores we plan on being out and about. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Moving Forward.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Kathy and I continue to sleep late in the morning. Not really sure why except that our bodies must find the early daylight the most relaxing time. After having toast and coffee for breakfast we made plans for things we wanted to do.  Kathy changed the channel on the television from the Weather channel and came across a murder mystery movie our favorite kind. So for the next hour and a half we just mellowed and took a breather.
With the movie completed I headed outside to do the work on the truck I was going to do last Thursday before we got the call to pick up the trailer. While I was doing that Kathy finished cleaning out the last of the now useless files from when we owned our home out of the file cabinet. My job only took thirty minutes outside so when I got back in I finished shredding the last of those files and took a bag of shredded materials to the recycle bin that weighed nearly thirty pounds.
Kathy’s body is still adjusting to her new dosage of medication and she required a Snap before we went out to run a few errands. I took the time to call my sister to wish her a Happy Birthday. Is it just me or does the time seem to be going faster or as Kathy says when reading it seems the writing is getting smaller.
The first stop was at Walmart because Kathy’s wallet was starting to split apart. Next we stopped at VitalAire to pick up our CPAP supplies that thank goodness are covered through our health care providers. Our third stop was at the Guardian Storage Yard where we both had things we needed to do on both the truck and trailer in order to get ready for our next short trip probably in September.
After nearly an hour we had both completed what we wanted to do and headed back towards the apartment where we made our last stop at the Metro Grocery store for some supplies. Finally back at the apartment we started getting things ready for supper. While I was grilling a couple of nice chicken breast on the Weber Q Kathy was busy making a nice pasta side dish and salad to go with them. Banana cupcakes were dessert yum!
With appointments pre-booked and with more errands for tomorrow we better not sleep in again and we’ll hope the weather will be as nice as today. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Simple Chores.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Kathy and I were amazed that we were both wide awake before 8:00 this morning even though neither of us really slept very well throughout the night. The outdoor temperatures in our area had dropped down to 55 F (13 C) over night and gave us the need for hot cereal for breakfast in order to warm ourselves up.

Shortly after 9:00 we headed across town to Dominion Collision. Recently Kathy has started hearing the wind whistling along the top of the passenger door. This is the door that a thief had broken into Kathy’s car on Christmas night last year which also delayed our departure to Florida by over a week. When we picked the car up from the shop on January 4th we brought it out to our son Kevin’s for safe keeping while we were away and didn’t really get a chance to road test it. Since we’ve been home we use the car for city driving because of the better fuel mileage. Since Dominion Collision guarantees their work the just said to bring it in and they’d adjust the door. From the time they paged the appraiser to the front to the time we finished talking of our travels we must have been there a whole fifteen minutes. On the return trip home Kathy said the noise was gone so as usual they have a reputation for quality that they live by.

Back at the apartment Kathy went back to her job of sorting and eliminating now useless files from our file cabinet. I cleaned the bathroom making certain that the shower was not growing any unwanted cultures. Before stopping for lunch I shredded all the files Kathy had removed from the file cabinet.
Full-Timing with their Family.
After lunch because of the poor sleep from last night and the higher dosage of medication Kathy needed a half hour Snap that helped get her through the rest of the day as well as the further file purging she did. For supper I fired up the Weber Q and grilled a couple of Steak Kabobs to go with the salad Kathy had made.

At 6:00 we picked our grandson Tyler up at an appointment because Karen and Greg had another appointment that they had to attend together. Tomorrow the sun is supposed to reappear which should help make finding something outdoors much easier. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Cool Day for Visiting.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

We don’t know what’s going on but we managed to sleep in again this morning. Could it be that we continue to toss and turn most of the night and only fall into a deep sleep just around the time we normally wake up? Our sleeping pattern is really up and down.

Watching the Weather Channel while we were eating breakfast we were surprised when they made the suggestion that the Fall season seems to be coming early in our region. The type of weather we have been experiencing for the last week lots of rain and cooler temperatures are very much the conditions that would only occur if it was already Autumn.

The rest of the morning was spent with Kathy cleaning old file folders out of our file cabinet. She was surprised to find receipts from back in 2007 for items that have since been sold or have gone to the great recycle bin in the sky. I had my work cut out for exercising the shredder getting rid of old information meant for our personal use only.

After lunch we took a short drive to Ernie and Sheryl’s home so that I could just drop off the card from Canadian Blood Services to tell Ernie that I had donated on his behalf. Sheryl insisted that we come in for a coffee. I had been wondering what Ernie had been up to since we hadn’t spoken for a few weeks and was concerned to find out he’d just gotten out of the hospital having suffered through a Kidney Stone problem. As if dealing with the cancer wasn’t enough but he says he is starting to feel better now.

We spoke of a number of things from hobbies to our travels. Ernie has seen our trailer before but not Sheryl and she was amazed to hear us describing it as well as all the modifications we’ve made to it. We were really enjoying the conversation so much that two and half hours flew by like minutes before we said our good-byes and best wishes.

After super we went over to our daughter Karen’s for our weekly Sunday night visit. Kylla continues to work as much as she can during her summer holidays. Tyler is still taking boxing lessons and hanging out with his friends in the neighborhood. Greg and Karen are still working every day. Everyone is wondering what is up with the drastic cool down we are presently experiencing and they are all looking forward to a planned trip to Pigeon Forge in August.

Tomorrow’s weather is supposed to remain cool and start to get back to seasonal by Tuesday so we’ll just have to take it one day at a time. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Day of Accomplishments.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Even though we had made plans to run some errands today we had a late start. We both tossed and turned so much through the night that we didn’t wake up until after 9:00 this morning. That’s right we slept in! We had to hurry as some of our stops had limited hours to be open because it is Saturday. So we hustled in order to make up time. After a quick breakfast of toast and coffee I took my morning shower and we were out the door shortly after 10:00.
First stop was the Credit Union to have cash in our pockets for when we have to eat out. That method of payment rather than using a debit or credit card helps you to keep excess spending and eating under control. The next stop was at the Devonshire Mall at the Bay entrance where I dropped Kathy off so she could get some walking in before we met at the food court for lunch.
My next stop was at Canadian Blood Services (formerly the Canadian Red Cross) for my first blood donation since my surgery. With this being my 83rd time donating most of the staff came by for a short visit asking why they hadn’t seen me. I also made my donation on behalf of my friend Ernie who is presently being treated for cancer and has required a few blood transfusions. I highly recommend anyone who is capable of donating to do so because there are many people out there needing your help.
Kathy was waiting at the food court in the mall when I got there ten minutes late. Of course we chose to eat at Taco Bell and by my choosing to add fries to my order lowered our cost by two dollars because it made one order a combo. We took our time eating and people watching and listening to someone talking five tables away who was probably hard of hearing and in order to hear himself so did everyone else around him.
When lunch was over we headed to a store that we had ordered a couple of Christmas Gifts and had received a call last night that they were in. There is only 150 days until the big day and even the weather Channel mentioned it saying there was less than five months to go. We’re hoping to be on the road exactly five months from today heading back to Florida. We are counting down the days and trying to get all of our appointments and jobs done before we leave. We made another stop at the Bell outlet where Jay gave us back our hub with the explanation a work order has been made on our behalf. That means Bell will replace the hub for us but this way we can re-establish our home phone line in the meantime. Seems the trouble with our internet never ends.
Kathy's Mile High Apple, Strawberry and Rhubarb Pie.
We made a stop for gas for the car before going to the grocery store so Kathy could do some planned baking when we got home. Tomorrow we might go for a short visit so things will be different. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Some Progress and a Setback.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

No it didn’t rain last night while we slept and there definitely was no full moon but we both slept in until nearly 8:30 this morning. This is more springtime weather and when you walked out of the building you almost wished it was warmer for those first few minutes.
Kathy in Tarpon Springs Florida in January.
After calling Vehicle Venture this morning to verify our replacement Toneau cover was in we drove the truck out to have it installed. I first dropped Kathy off with her healing foot at the Lowes across the street so we could walk around and see what was new in the home remodeling world. Once I had dropped off the truck I joined her in her slow explorations of all the aisles. We did purchase something today that even though was not on any list we had talked about this past winter. They had a newer more advanced NOAA weather radio on sale for less than we had paid for our old one. Since ours was over ten years old and seemed to be alerting us after the fact of storms in our area which is not a good thing when we are away in the trailer. We agreed to forget the list rule for this time.

When we walked back to pick up the truck Vehicle Venture had waved the labor cost of the replacement because they had failed to realize that the part had not come in which was ordered June 18th the day before my surgery.

Back at the apartment when Kathy tried downloading Extended Health Care Coverage forms the computer just wouldn’t co-operate. I finally had to shut the Norton Firewall in order for her to accomplish such a simple task. When she was finished she shut her computer down completely and I happen to look at the Turbo Hub and saw the data transfer lights continuing to flash. In other words it was like the computer was still on line. Lately we had been notified that we were reaching our peak as far as usage was concerned and that was only after ten days into this month. When were in Florida we left our computers on all the time except on travel days and I post more pictures than I do now and we never used over 4.4 Gig of data on our Verizon Hotspot.

I was on the phone with Bell tech support for nearly an hour before they told me to take it back to where we bought it. We were at the Bell outlet at the Devonshire Mall for nearly an hour before being told the person that needs to check it isn’t in today.

We stopped at the Caboto Club on the way home where we used the door prize gift certificate that I had won at the fundraiser dinner supporting the Veterans. There was over twenty different choices to choose from. Our wood-fired pizza tasted delicious and we’ll definitely be back there to try out some other choices.

The weather is supposed to be messy tomorrow so like every other day we’ll just have to see what we’ll be up to. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Appointments and It’s Home.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

As expected the throbbing from the procedure on Kathy’s toe kept her awake a better part of the night. She had taken a Tylenol Extra Strength Tablet just before 11:00 last night but it was only good for approximately four hours of relief. Even though I didn’t get to bed until after 1:00 myself we were both wide awake and having breakfast before 8:00 giving us some relaxation time before heading out to Kathy’s doctor appointment. This trip is just to see how she is doing with the new arthritic medication since the last increase in the dosage. The office was full as usual but with only a few people taking longer than most it didn’t take long.

By the time we left the doctor’s office it was nearing lunch time but first we made a stop at Vehicle Venture to find out what the delay was on the arrival of our Toneau Cover for the truck.  Once we had a more definite date of the delivery which should be overnight and installation schedule for 11:00 tomorrow morning we then went over to Wendy’s to enjoy a full sized Baja Salad for our lunch which filled us up but not out and was healthier than eating fries.

Now it was time to go to the Surgeon’s office for my appointment where I got the news that I was waiting to hear. I am now healed enough to slowly start back at exercising and that I can once again start donating blood. Returning to a more active lifestyle will help ease many body aches as well as increasing my energy level. So unless I have any other problems I don’t need to return.
The weather was pleasantly comfortable.
Once we were back at the apartment Kathy needed to soak her foot and take a Tylenol to ease the throbbing caused by all this today’s walking. I was going to go outside to measure and mark the front air dam on the truck so that I know where to drill the last of the holes I need to drill when I received a phone call that changed our plans for the afternoon.
All hooked up and ready to go.
Sun Parlour Trailer called to say the trailer was ready to go. The final part was being held at the courier’s depot in Detroit and they weren’t sure when they’d get it here. Rob crossed the border after closing for the day because he knew we were anxious to get the trailer back considering it has been there since the day after we returned from Florida in April. In less than an hour we were in Amherstburg and were ready to hitch up to the trailer. With all the pretravel checks completed we were headed for Windsor and the Guardian Storage yard. Our spot has been empty for so long that grass is growing through the gravel.
Finally back in the storage yard.
After a quick stop for fuel we stopped at Arby’s for a nice roast beef sandwich. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice weather so who knows what we’ll be up to. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Comfortable Day for Errands and Chores.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Due to the heavy amounts of pollen that still fills the air we continue to run the Air Conditioner to make it easier for Kathy to breathe. The big drawback to doing so is that at night the apartment cools down even in our bedroom. I was literally cold because we don’t sleep with any bedcovers at this time of year I had to get up around 2:30 and put on a hoodie in order to fall back asleep. At breakfast I told Kathy about it and she said she was cold as well and said I should have just pulled the sheet up. That makes sense but when we are laying on them it’s hard to do without waking up your mate. We’ll fix that tonight!

Kathy had an 11:00 appointment with her Podiatrist because her one toe continues to cause her problems. She has twice had the nail removed completely with the guarantee that it will never grow back but it did. This time they tried a different approach that they hope will work but it is still like a mini surgical procedure.

We stopped at Taco Bell for lunch before going to Sears at the Devonshire Mall. Kathy had planned on going there before this morning’s appointment and since her toe and part of her foot was frozen we went after eating. She was only looking for a single lightweight top and since the stores are already bringing in their Fall Fashions we knew it was now or wait until next Spring. She found a few that looked close but when she tried them on there was only one that came home with us. Kathy never buys clothes or shoes without trying them on just because they are her size the style and the manufacturer’s sizes are not all the same so she doesn’t waste our money just because the article is on sale and won’t buy unless she tries them on first.

Back at the apartment she relaxed with her foot elevated and a Tylenol as the freezing was starting to come out. I made a few phone calls trying to plan when I’ll do some of the repairs, modifications and services that I want to make or have done to both the trailer and the truck. Since the temperature was reasonable and the sun was shining I went outside to do some measurements on the front of the truck.
Our Son Kevin
With this being Wednesday we headed out after supper to our son Kevin’s home in Amherstburg for our weekly visit. I also needed to look through a few boxes of STUFF that I had store in the attic of his garage. There are things I need in those boxes that I will use instead of wasting money and buying it again and letting the old STUFF just rot in the boxes. Back in the house we had our usual round of discussions with Kevin and Melissa and walked away with sore sides from all the laughing. Of course that didn’t help the pain Kathy was feeling in her toe.
Melissa always keeps us laughing.
Tomorrow we both have appointments and we’ll see how Kathy is feeling like before we figure out what else we’ll be doing. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Stormy Day and Clear Evening.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

When I posted the picture of the full moon surrounded by the clouds from Sunday night I added the caption that maybe it was the full moon that was really responsible for our not sleeping properly that night instead of the caffeine from Kylla’s birthday cake. The reason I did that was because many medical studies have proven that people especially males have a difficult time sleeping when there is a full moon. Last night when we were returning from a late errand we noted a cloudless sky but again with a full moon. Do you see where this is leading? Neither Kathy nor I had a restful sleep again last night and we couldn’t blame it on the caffeine.
Last night's full moon.
This morning we were both wide awake before 8:00 and were looking out at clear blue skies while we enjoyed our breakfast. By 8:30 the sky started to darken making you think that the sun was about to set. Before 9:00 the rain started coming down with the intensity of a late fall storm making everything very water soaked. With the distant sounds of thunder the rain continued until after lunch.

We worked together to finish wrapping a few more of the remaining Christmas Gifts before deciding to make a break for it this afternoon during one of the breaks in the rain and headed out to do some store walking. We stopped at a few of the smaller ones that we haven’t been to this year and managed to scratch off a couple more Christmas Gifts off of our list. With only 154 days before the big day we have only finished three quarters of our shopping.

Back at the apartment on time for supper and the skies were beginning to clear and the temperatures starting to drop it looked to be the perfect time to fire up the Weber Q to grill a few hot dogs. The rest of the evening was comfortable and as the full moon rose again it made us wonder how well we would sleep tonight. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Leisure Accomplishments.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Even with all the walking we did yesterday Kathy and I messed up royally. We had a piece of the chocolate cake trimmings we had made from our granddaughter Kylla’s birthday cake for breakfast yesterday and then another sliver of the actual Peanut Butter Cup Chocolate Cake at the party. We both forgot how much caffeine there is in that much cake and icing. Needless to say neither of us slept much throughout the night and we have been dragging most of the day.
Or maybe it was last night's full moon that kept us awake.
After breakfast I went outside to reorganize the inside of the truck. With the high heat we were putting up with last week and dealing with the flat tire the back seat was a disaster. I managed to get everything stored the way it was supposed to be and better. I was also wiping spider webs the size of which I had never seen before. The warm weather we got last week was stifling hot most days accompanied by harsh thunderstorms at least every other day. After parking the truck Saturday night and using the car yesterday the spiders must have thought that the vehicle had been abandoned and basically covered every square inch of it.

I made additional measurements before going back into the apartment and reviewing what fasteners I had and what I’d need to purchase to complete my next job on the truck. Kathy had been busy while I was outside trying to find affordable extended healthcare for us for next winter when we go south to Florida. The same company that insure us last year has changed their qualification limits and even though Kathy is on less medication they are at present deeming her ineligible to qualify for insurance.

After lunch we went to Home Depot where you can get the best selection of Stainless Steel hardware at the most reasonable price. The reason that I use Stainless is because it will never corrode so if I need to take it apart I will always be able to do so. We also walked around just looking at some of the newer home products they had in stock. Walking out with only the screws that I had gone for it was still early and we still wanted to do more walking we went to the Tecumseh Mall.

We walked from store to store and after an hour and a half we only purchased the insulated shopping bags to replace our worn ones and a pair of flip flop sandals that I need for in the trailer. All those items were on our shopping list but we did splurge and bought ourselves each an ice coffee for a dollar each at the food court.

Back at the apartment it was time for supper and Kathy only needed to make a Caesar Salad to go with the Spare Ribs she had cooking in the slow cooker while we had been gone. She had seasoned them with a Sweet Chili sauce that really gave them a great taste that wasn’t too over powering.

Tomorrow is supposed to be our warmest and wettest day this week so we’ll have to find something to keep ourselves busy with. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Comfortable Celebration Day.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario.

Even though we didn’t leave the apartment at all yesterday we were both tired enough to be fast asleep before 11:00 last night. We even managed to sleep right through until after 8:30 this morning.
Tyler after a late night at his friend's house.
Our breakfast this morning was slightly unconventional but anyone who has ever done cake decorating would understand. When making a cake for anyone nobody can ever say the cake didn’t taste good because you taste it by having a snack or this case breakfast by using the cake trimmings and extra icing that is made. We haven’t lost our touch!
Sanford with a paw injury.
We did our usual computer time reading and even researching before finally having lunch and then heading out for some firsthand information gathering. We went to Best Buy to get some information on a number of electronic devices that I wasn’t sure of. The information wasn’t what I had hoped for but while we were there we noted they had the Logitech M-325 cordless mouse on sale and even though it we didn’t have a list with us today it was something we had talked about in the past so we did get one for each of the laptops.
Foreground L-R Granddaughters Kylla & Ashley. Backgound L-R Kathy, Grandma Rose and Grampa Ray.
Since the temperature was so comfortable we walked from one store to another in walking distance of the car. We walked through the Shoe Warehouse who were having a going out of business sale and Pier 1 where we saw a lot of interesting things without buying anything. We drove across the street and repeated our walk to Canadian Tire, Home Sense and finally stopping at Burger King where we each had a sampler sized Strawberry Lemonade to cool down.

Back at the apartment I installed the cordless mice to the laptops before we headed to our daughter Karen’s around 5:30 with the finished cake in hand as part of our birthday gift for Kylla. She had some of her friends there as well to help her celebrate her birthday. Greg did his usual great job manning the barbecue making everything to perfection. The cake of course was a big hit especially for all the teenagers whose metabolisms would just burn off all those extra calories and sugar that they ingested.

The weather stayed comfortable the whole day but we’ll be seeing a see-saw in the heat for the next week. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
