Decision Made.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

We definitely slept well with the window open last night but only by a crack. It was cold enough that even Kathy kept the covers on. We were up by 8:00 this morning and enjoying our breakfast but as we looked out the balcony door everyone we saw walking their dogs in the back field were wearing jackets and some hoodies. That was strange because as soon as we got up the first thing we did was to open the windows and balcony door wide. We watched the trees behind the apartment swaying in the wind but because the wind was coming from the front of the building we hardly felt it.

Once we finished breakfast we sat at the computers getting caught up on the goings-on in the RV blogging community. Then both Kathy and I started researching more ways of saving our money so that we’ll be able to continue our travels. We agreed that sometimes in order to make certain things happen we’ll have to make some changes and even a few sacrifices. Now it is just a matter of putting our plan into action.

After lunch while Kathy continued doing more research I went through our battery boxes making certain they only contained good batteries. When we winterized the trailer last week we removed all the batteries from everything in the trailer so they wouldn’t leak and ruin things. Also when you stock up on things like batteries sometimes they die off before you can use them. When Kathy went in the living room to do some reading that was when I started working out. I did manage to get a full hour of exercise in today but I need to do it more on a regular basis.

For supper Kathy recreated the leftovers in the fridge into a wonderful meal. Tomorrow we’ll start trying to implement our plan. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

Kathy Continues Her Research.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

We both slept soundly again last night with the windows wide open. When we got up this morning we both felt quite refreshed. Once breakfast was over we immediately started our reading on the computers. I’ve made a personal notation that lots of RV bloggers are not posting as often as they used to. Many feel that if they are not traveling they shouldn’t be posting. Personally the reason we blog in the first place is for our own recollection. Next we do it for our families and friends to follow along when we are away. Last but not least we allow the rest of the world to see what we are doing whether it is exciting or everyday life. Through our blogging we have also expanded our social circle of RV friends and family sharing our lives.

Since it’s over a week since the last time I did the laundry that was on my agenda for today. I managed to get the washing done this morning and returned to fold the clothes after we ate our lunch.

Kathy as I mentioned again yesterday likes to research anything and everything on the computer as a fact she found out how to rectify the Bad Request Error 400 issue we were having when adding pictures to our blog. Our plans for our winter travels include heading to the American southwest for our 2016/17 getaway. By the time I’d finished with the laundry she had already made quite an extensive list of places we’ll be exploring on that trip.

We also continue looking at different options on ways to cut our expenses. Due to our continually rising rent and our unmoving pension alternatives are good to have. Lower costs at home would mean we could better afford more travels.

Since noon hour the outside temperature here has been dropping like a rock. We went from having the windows wide open to being only open a bit. The colder north winds will have us wearing long pants and shoes starting tomorrow. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

Kathy Saves The Day With Help From Google.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

The temperature last night was perfect for sleeping with the windows open again. Kathy slept like a log where I managed to get about two hours of sleep. I finally just got out of bed before 7:00 this morning but Kathy managed to sleep for more than an hour later.
Picture taken at 6:00 today.
Once breakfast was over we headed to the computers to get our morning reading done. Once I’d finished reading I continued trying to unsuccessfully post pictures to the blogs. As I’ve mentioned before Kathy does all the research for our travels and she also Googles how to do things. This morning she Googled how to repair Bad Request Error 400 since that was the error displayed when I couldn’t post the pictures. Low and Behold up pops the definition on the error: “A digital error in the Google operating system”. They also explained how to correct the problem. When she told me I was doubtful but I Googled the problem, read how to fix it and had all the computers posting pictures in a half hour after spending days doing the wrong thing. After lunch Kathy busied herself cooking and baking while I worked at adding pictures to the blogs that I had the problems with. I guess I’ll be learning to Google more problems in the future or else I’ll ask Kathy to fix it LOL
Lots of trees are loosing their leaves.

The weather outside has been mostly overcast today. Just before sitting down to enjoy the supper that Kathy made I looked out the window and was shocked at what I was seeing. We have trees around the building that have already changed colors and others that barely have any leaves left on them. We are less than a week into the autumn season and we haven’t had any frost so what gives. Is Mother Nature trying to tell us something? Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Party Feedback and Hockey Hero.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Attending the surprise birthday party for our son-in-law Greg last night confirmed something for both Kathy and I. We are not late night partiers and we didn’t stay that late. Greg however was busy downing shots most of the evening that his coworkers that attended the party were buying him. Apparently he was taken home a half hour after we left and the party continued for another couple of hours.
Kathy and I had another great night’s sleep waking up refreshed but a bit achy from having done stretching to decorate the hall that we haven’t done in a while. We spent just over an hour reading on the computers before having to get ready to leave. We had some leftovers we’d brought home from the party for a snack because we knew our lunch would be late.
Tyler (Black 97) getting slashed by two opponents.
We made a quick stop at Tim Horton’s for coffee before heading over to the New Belle River Arena. Our grandson Tyler would be playing hockey. While waiting for the game to begin our daughter Karen told us how she had even made arrangements to have Greg’s shift covered at work for midnight shift last night without him knowing about it. When it was time to clean up the hall everyone still there pitched in making the cleanup go rather quickly. She also told us that after Greg got up this morning he sat in his easy chair and fell back to sleep. She didn’t even wake him for Tyler’s game.
Tyler having just scored.
When the game got started the opposing team was the first to score but that’s when Tyler’s team buckled down. There was one skirmish on the ice when two of the opposing players tried putting Tyler out of the game with intended slashes to his hands but he shoved back. All three of them shared a two minute penalty. That made Tyler’s team all the more determined even though the two teams were well matched. Tyler made one goal and four assists almost a double hat-trick and his team skated away with a 6 to 4 victory.
Tyler intercepting the puck.
On the way home from the game Kathy and I stopped at Zehrs grocery store to get more salad fixings and some cereal. It was past 2:00 when we got home so we were lucky we had eaten earlier.
Tyler (Center) winning the faceoff.
I’ve continued working on the Blogger problems that we are having. Again today I tried changing the computers from Google to Internet Explorer to Firefox all with the same negative results. Blogger is not allowing us to post pictures to our blog and they have not responded to my Problem Report. It is not fair because at this time of year we have plenty of fresh pictures to add. If anyone out there knows what is wrong please let me know how to fix it. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

I Lied and Big Birthday!

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

No I didn’t lie about our problems with Blogger. This is truly frustrating after spending the morning trying different Internet Drivers on all the computers I still cannot post pictures on our blog.  People appreciate and look forward to seeing pictures in the blog as much as we do. I can only hope that my Problem Request is reviewed by Blogger soon and dealt with. Unfortunately we are having the same issues tonight and I had plenty of fresh pictures to upload.
Kathy and Karen decorating the banquet room.

Greg (C) in shock when he walked in the door.
Last night I didn’t take any chances of whether or not I would sleep. I took a Tylenol nearly two hours before going to bed and another just before lying down. The result was that I slept just as soundly as Kathy and woke up feeling very refreshed this morning.
Kevin and Melissa
After having breakfast and completing our morning reading I headed outside to clean out our car. I then had to load up a bunch of party supplies that our daughter Karen has been dropping off every day this week. The reason is that she is throwing a surprise belated birthday party for her husband Greg. Even those cupcakes that we baked yesterday were going to the party. Yes I know I lied but Greg reads the blog daily so I couldn’t spill the beans. Tomorrow when he reads this will be after the fact so it’s safe to talk about it now.
Hot food snacks
Birthday Cake.
We met Karen at the Riverside Sportsman’s Club at 5:00 and managed to get the room all decorated within an hour. The rouse used to get Greg to the hall was a charitable fundraiser that he has supported in the past was being held at the location. So when his buddy Joe invited him to attend he had no idea what he was walking into. You should have seen the look on Greg’s face when he walked into the room filled with most of his friends and family. He would later admit that he had no idea that anything was going on behind his back. Sorry Marsha but those cupcakes all disappeared really fast along with the rest of the snacks. The party was a success and everyone drank responsibly.

Blogger Problems.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

As stated last night every time I tried to add a photo a Bad Request ERROR 400 message would lock up the control panel on the blog. I even tried adding pictures from our other computers with the same effect and this is not the first time that this has happened. I can only hope that my Problem Report to Blogger gets a response soon. There is also another problem that has been presenting itself on and off for some time. On the list of blog followers it seems when we try to see a new follower’s profile all the followers disappear and a message that the pages are Unattainable appears. Again the only way to do anything else with the Blog is to exit and then sign-in again.
Kathy slept like a rock last night. I managed to scrape together a couple hours of rest. We ate breakfast at our normal time before heading out to run some errands.
I dropped Kathy off at the Dollar Store while I drove to the far end of the plaza to do some banking at the Credit Union. Fortunately the temperature was still comfortable this morning because I ran into Larry who I used to work with. He finally had the chance to retire just this past May. As Larry said it wasn’t fun going to work anymore and the new supervisors that are being hired have university degrees but know nothing about industry. Congratulations on your retirement Larry. We spoke for nearly ten minutes and by the time I picked Kathy up she had been waiting five minutes.
We stopped at the Zehrs grocery store again to pick up a few things that weren’t on our list the other day. Since we still had time before lunch we also stopped at Canadian Tire. Kathy has used a Mr. Clean product for cleaning the bathroom tiles for years but suddenly we can’t find it in any of the stores that used to stock it. It was a good product that worked well so that’s probably the reason they took it off the market.
After we had lunch Kathy and I worked together making some cupcakes. That’s something we used to do a lot at one time but now it is for personal consumption and experimentation. They are all made from scratch and one batch was Vanilla Cupcakes with Lemon filling. We also made some Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Mint filling. Adding filling to cupcakes is the only way to keep them fresh for a couple of days.
Supper tonight was light and simple after a busy day. Now I’m hoping that Blogger will co-operate tonight. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Trimming Expenses.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

After a busy day yesterday winterizing the trailer and bringing all the things in that could freeze to the apartment we were really tired last night. As a fact we were both so tired that we slept in this morning. We were in a relaxed state even when we had our breakfast but we knew that there were errands to run.
Our first stop was the Pioneer gas station where we were shocked to find the cost of gasoline had gone up the equivalent of thirty five cents per gallon overnight especially since the cost of crude oil has been going down lately. We then headed to the Zehrs grocery store and the Bulk Barn to pick up some needed food and supplies.

Our next stop was the Service Ontario Office where we stood in line for nearly a half hour before being served. Since we pay so much for our license tag for the truck each year we thought we’d save some money. After winterizing the trailer we won’t be pulling it on the road until we leave to go south this winter. Even though we’ll pay a fifteen dollar administration fee we’ll be receiving a cheque in the mail for three hundred and fifty nine dollars.

We were back at the apartment on time for lunch. We also watched a special on the Weather Network before doing our own things. Kathy had some gift wrapping to do while I got in a good workout today. It’s been nearly a week since the last time I exercised and it felt so good.

When it was time for supper it didn’t take Kathy long to serve a nice pork roast and all the trimmings that she had cooking in the crock pot since this morning. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

The Deed is Done.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Blame it on the fresh air but Kathy was in bed asleep before I posted the blog last night just after 10:00 and slept soundly until this morning. After I posted the blog I packed away the computers leaving very little in the back room of the trailer to clean up for this morning. Unfortunately I wasn’t as lucky as Kathy because as soon as my head hit the pillow my mind started racing. I didn’t hear the highway traffic in the distance but I just couldn’t sleep. I last looked at the clock just after 6:00 in the morning then again at 8:10 when Kathy was getting up. Talk about a power nap. Maybe going to bed during the summer and waking up in the fall had something to do with it but that’s doubtful.

We enjoyed our breakfast but by 9:00 we were both working (Terrible Word) at closing up the trailer. While Kathy did the dishes and gathered the last of the toiletries that needed to come to the apartment. I busied myself with changing the bed linens to flannel sheets that will help us keep war on the first few days of our southbound trip this winter. I then headed out to the truck taking a load of things headed back to the apartment. It was easier doing it during the coolness of the morning than struggling with it during the heat of the day. Between each load I carried out to the truck I flushed and emptied a different waste tank. Then after shutting off our utilities I emptied the fresh water system by opening the low point drains. I was surprised at how much water was in the system because I try to only carry a half tank of fresh water. With all the low point drains once again closed with Kathy’s help we filled the faucets and drains with the antifreeze thus bringing an end to our 2015 camping season. We both felt terrible about this making us feel like we’d just laid a pet to rest. The good news is we’ll be back on the road heading south after Christmas which is only 93 days away

By the time we swung around the loop to exit the park it was noon hour. It seemed there was also something stopping traffic from the direction of Lauzon Parkway which is the direction we’d come from yesterday so we simply went by Walker Road. Once we were back at Guardian Storage Kathy asked that I let her practice towing the trailer around to our site. With little coaching from me she did a great job but when it came to backing it into the spot she handed the job back to me. Maybe with a little more practice and confidence Kathy might even share in future driving.

It was nearly 1:00 by the time the trailer was parked and secured so we needed to stop at Harvey’s for lunch. Instead of the typical burger we each had a grilled hotdog and fries for lunch. After we’d eaten we basically backtracked yesterday’s route and stopped to pick up the pictures we needed printed before heading for home.

Yesterday we loaded the truck with the use of a single shopping cart. Today it took two shopping carts to unload the truck. We then spent the next couple of hours getting everything organized and put away in the apartment. For supper the Weber Q did a great job of cooking a modified pizza for us. It turned out perfectly. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Last Day of Summer.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

One can really get used to sleeping with the windows open at night as long as it doesn’t get too cold. We had a busy day planned but we couldn’t start too early so that meant we didn’t have a pretravel night’s sleep. We slept soundly and when we finally woke up we enjoyed a bit of leisure time while we had breakfast. But as they say all good things must come to an end. As soon as we finished eating Kathy washed the morning dishes while I went to close up our CPAPs, computers and HUB.

Using a shopping cart from downstairs we managed to get the truck loaded in one fell swoop. It was just after 10:00 when we were on our way to run a couple of errands. We had to order a couple of pictures that I photo-shopped last night but I don’t have the printing medium that they will be made on. We’ll be able to pick them up tomorrow afternoon. Our next stop was at a local Subway where we ordered a foot long sandwich that we would later share for our lunch.

Our last stop of the morning was the Guardian Storage yard to pick up our trailer. It didn’t take long to transfer everything we’d brought from the apartment into the trailer. While Kathy stowed everything for the purpose of travel I readied things to hitch up. By 11:30 we were on our way heading to our overnight destination.

With this being the last full day of summer we had plans to go camping at the Windsor Campground. Towing the trailer all of 5.4 miles we arrived at our destination for the night. (That’s the shortest trip we’ve ever made.) Within minutes we were registered and heading for our site. Unfortunately because of our length we had to unhook the truck so we didn’t stick out in the roadway. The actual temperature itself was quite comfortable but being on the sunny side of the trailer hooking up the utilities the sun was wearing me down. Having to stop a number of times to stay hydrated really slowed the setup process. It was almost an hour by the time the trailer was level and the utilities hooked up.
Kathy liked the sign.

Lots of nice seasonal sites.
Once the slides were all extended Kathy started going through all the cabinets removing anything that could possibly freeze and packing it in a storage box. I busied myself rearranging the basement since we’d taken a few things out to use since our return north in April. I then went inside to set up our CPAP equipment, then our computers and our HUB. Kathy and I both have Sleep Apnea and require CPAP equipment to help us breath while we are sleeping. The HUB is a device we use as our home phone in the apartment but when we are traveling in Canada we can take it with us and it doubles as our WiFi connection.

After having supper we watched a bit of the Windsor News on CBC on the antenna since there is no cable at this park. Boy was that different! It wasn’t even close to the broadcast we get at home and it’s a far cry from what we get on the road in the US. The highlight of our day was enjoying our last campfire of the summer which helped us burn the last of our firewood because we can’t bring it across the International Border. We even roasted marshmallows while enjoying the fire.

We’ll enjoy our last night camping this year but the real reason we came here starts in the morning. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

Nearly On Our Way!

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

We both woke up feeling pretty good with cool comfortable temperatures coming through the open windows.  Our day started out quite nice as we were both eager to get some work done in the apartment. After having breakfast we didn’t even sit at the computers until this evening. I got started on the laundry and Kathy started vacuuming throughout the apartment, scrubbing down the bathroom, and dusting the usual stuff she does when she cleans. She also unpacked 6 bags of food items that we’d taken out of the trailer so it wouldn’t freeze in the cold weather before we leave. She managed to find places for most of it in our pantry so we’ll have fresh supplies when we leave. It took longer to do the laundry being that today is Monday so everyone wanted to do their washing today so I could only accomplish a single load at a time.

Kathy then baked a pumpkin pie for supper and fried up some haddock using a nice batter to crisp it up.  She also had squash and buttered noodles as sides for supper. Everything tasted delicious as always.
Already dreaming of where we want to go.
Tomorrow we’re leaving with the trailer to camp overnight at a local RV park. That will give us a chance to finish winterizing and cleaning the trailer before we park it for the winter. We will have our last campfire of the season and enjoy our last evening in “AVA” until we head south again.  This cool weather is kind of nice for a short fall camping trip. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

Watching and Looking.

Our Location today is Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.

Something totally wonderful happened last night. With the windows cracked open and the 46 F (8 C) temperature we again slept with the covers on all night. We both slept soundly and woke up feeling refreshed this morning. Watching the Weather Network during breakfast we knew that we would be having a clear weather day. After finishing our coffees at the computer we barely finished our morning reading when we headed out the door.
Tyler (Black 97) defending his net.
We were on our way to the New Belle River Arena to watch our grandson Tyler play hockey. Remembering how cold it was inside last weekend we stopped at Tim Horton’s and picked up a couple of hot chocolates that would not only warm us up but help tide us over until lunch.
Tyler blocking a shot.
Our daughter Karen arrived before the game started and we got to talk for a bit. Once the puck hit the ice all eyes were on the action. With the players being moved around to different teams it made it so the teams were evenly matched. Tyler was playing defense for his team but still managed a couple of breakaways and even got a few shots on the opposing team’s net but scored no goals today. It was a game that kept you on the edge of your seat because there were only a few stops in the play. The final score was tied at one each.

When we got back home we had soup for lunch before Kathy went to the computer while I went out to work on the car. I’ll need to use a grinder in order to remove a bracket so that will happen later this week. Kathy called me through our open balcony door when it was time to come in. Being the car was only twenty feet away she only had to stand by the door and call my name.

Yesterday we’d contacted a couple of realtors and made appointments to meet with them this afternoon. One called this afternoon in hopes of moving the appointment ahead which suited us just fine. We stopped at the Subway around the corner and picked up a sandwich that we’d later share for our supper. We arrived at 3:35 at the appointed address and met Roberto. He walked us through the property and answered all our questions. This place was quite roomy and priced to move but it would take a bit of work to clean up. After leaving we now had time to have supper and walk around the community building before our next appointment. Debbie was the next agent we met. She also answered all our questions about the property we looked at which was very clean but the floor plan just was too tight for our furniture. These two units we looked at would not be suitable for us. Even though we are looking we are also considering other options.

We were home by 6:10 and able to catch the last of the evening news. Everything is moving so fast and we have a lot to get done this week. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
