Still Celebrating, Still Confused.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Spending nearly Seven Hours in Bed last night was truly something that I have looked forward to for a long time. Again, I had barely left the Bedroom when Kathy came out to join me. She was still beaming with excitement over yesterday’s Surprise Birthday Party. It was the kids that planned it all, while I was only used to get Kathy over to where our Granddaughter lives.

Though there was no Rain, looking out the Balcony Door at the sky full of Black Clouds was not encouraging. When I said we would go for short walks in case, Kathy was certain it was about to Rain. When I suggested we return to the Mall to walk, it was her Knee that was hurting. Even telling her that the less I walk was bad for my Hip, it was “Not now”.

I have mentioned that whenever there is a Family Celebration, everyone goes home with Leftovers. I felt guilty last night still coming away with Food that I had not help contribute to, but I made use of it for lunch today. We had a meal of Broasted Chicken, Penne, Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes, Coleslaw and Cream Cheese Peppers. I made certain that Kathy had the mild ones today. I was certain there would be no need for more food today.

Back at our Computers and looking out the Balcony Door, we were seeing breaks in the Clouds with Sunlight beaming through. That allowed me to say we needed to go to the Drug Store. I showed Kathy the Medication Spreadsheet and what I needed to pick up before the next time I worked on the Doucettes. Being that Thursdays are considered Seniors Discount Days she agreed we should go.

The parking lot was full when we arrived at the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart and no matter how much I tried coaxing Kathy in, she stayed in the Car. Inside was as full as the lot, but instead of having more than One Cashier up front where the customers heading for the Exit were, they opened the tills at the Cosmetics and the Pharmacy. What took me Five Minutes to find, took Fifteen Minutes to pay for.

When I got back to the Car, Kathy seemed distant but the moment I mentioned going to Dollarama, she perked up. We managed to restock the Brisk Iced Tea we share but they did not have the Breakfast Juice we prefer. In line at the Cashier, Kathy wanted Chocolate Bars because she was getting hungry. (After our big lunch???) I told her that we could go to a Restaurant if she put them back. It worked like a charm.

We went to the Michigan Diner for supper. Since Kathy’s birthday was yesterday and mine will be tomorrow, we have celebrated both on the day between for years and that was what we did today. We placed our order as soon as the waitress brought our menus because we know them by heart. Moments after our Soft Drinks were served Kathy said she wanted to go visit her brother Danny. When told we had on Saturday, she claimed that was not him, that she had seen a picture of him On-Line. I simply said that we would talk later and she forgot all about it.

I believe that every time she is alone, without others around to talk with, is when she becomes Confused. I can bring her to the stores, but if she will not go in, I cannot force her.

The Weather Guesser on the “6 o’clock Local News” showed that we can expect Rain for the next Seven Days. The Weather Network does not have the same forecast. We’ll see who was right.

We watched “Law and Order, Special Victims” before Kathy went to Bed at 10:00 while I started writing the Blog. She came out Thirty Minutes later to see what was taking so long.

We’ll see what we accomplish tomorrow.

Special Day, Special Surprise.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Since I try to avoid setting the Alarm, I have also gotten to appreciate getting as much sleep as I can. Unfortunately. It seems the more sleep I get, the moment I sit down at my Computer, no matter what time of day, my Eyes attempt to put me back to sleep. A good example was after totalling just over Eight Hours connected to both my CPAP Machines last night, when I sat reading Blogs this afternoon, Twice I had to walk around the Apartment to wake up. Yet, on my less restful nights, I seem to be wide awake the entire day.

It was nice to only spend a short time in my Recliner, then to soundly sleep in Bed the remainder of the night. I had barely left the Bedroom when Kathy was already joining me to start the day. That started with Hug and a Kiss and a Hug around the Neck, (as one of her ole time ditty goes). This would be more of a Special Day, that she had not expected.

After finishing our Coffees and cleaning up, with my encouragement, Kathy donned her New Outfit that she only purchased yesterday. Then with perfect timing we headed out shortly after 11:00. To explain the type of day it was, Kathy stayed inside the rear entrance to the building, while I walked around a small flock of Mallard Ducks searching the abutting grass for morsels.

Soon we were on our way to Wendy’s for an early lunch. Paula instantly wanted to know what we were doing there, knowing the importance of this day. Assured it was simply for lunch, and the main event would be taking place later, we were served in a flash. It is surprising that simply having an order of Chicken Nuggets holds us over as much as the full-sized sandwiches used to do.

Next, we drove over to Walmart, and it was not for the purpose of shopping, Kathy was a tad overdressed but was ready for what was to come. Inside was the Kiosk for Service Ontario and today was Kathy’s Birthday. Though she does not look her age, she now had to take a Test in order to renew her Driver’s License. The only issue she had was that when she first got her License some time back, everything was in Standard Measurement and now it is Metric. Because of Kathy’s excellent driving record, the examiner did the conversions for her. I thought for certain that I would be consoling her when she came out but instead, she had a smile on her face and the temporary license in hand until her new one comes in. The sense of accomplishment will hold her over for the next Two Years. I’ll still do the majority of the driving but know in an emergency she can back me up is good.

We headed back to our Apartment, where we spent time finishing our E-Reading from this morning. I struggled to stay awake. Kathy believed that we were going to our daughter Karen’s for supper and could not understand why we were going to our granddaughter’s place first. Once I told her that Kylla wanted to show her the place, so she calmed down. Then she kept saying we should get over there. Knowing that I had to stall, I delayed our departure until 5:00.

Arriving at her building, we were surprised how far the Visitors Parking was to the entrance. Kylla greeted us at the front door and made the excuse that we were taking a short cut. Behind the magic door in the Party Room, was the rest of the family singing Happy Birthday to Kathy. She was shocked when she was presented with her Birthday Sash and Tiara. The best part was all the hugs and kisses that she got.

There was homemade Food Contributions along with Party Takeout. Broast Chicken, Penne, Coleslaw, Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes, Cream Cheese Peppers Hot and Mild. Of course, Kathy always grabs the Hot ones by mistake, that I gladly enjoyed. Before anyone got too far another round of Happy Birthday was sang then Cake was served. As is traditional, everyone had leftovers to bring home.

While I retrieved the Car, they helped bring everything out that we would take home. With only short stop by the door, Kathy and everything else was loaded, before we were on our way home.

Dropping Kathy at the front entrance was a necessity due to the fresh round of Drizzle. With the Four Ways on, I made Two Trips to bring everything up, before I parked the Car. Kathy was totally excited and tired. Though I was able to start writing the Blog as soon as we got home, I will be joining her in Bed soon.

Not sure what we will be doing tomorrow.

Smile Cookies, Mall Walking and Tax Freeze.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

How often does that happen? Though I moved between the Recliner and Bed multiple times through the night, when I checked the timers on both CPAP Machines this morning there was only a Ten-Minute difference between the two. Since I got out of Bed the last time, before getting things ready for breakfast, it was no surprise that Kathy practically followed me to the Livingroom. She said that she had a good night’s sleep, just like me.

Outside, it was still Raining, and the temperature was barely 50 F (10 C) so we were in no hurry to go for our walk. Our breakfast snack lasted long enough for us to do our E-Reading. It was still drizzling when we had Salmon Sandwiches for lunch. It wasn’t until nearly 2:00 when I noticed the pavement starting to dry and the Sun starting to shine, but the damage was done.

Kathy used the excuse that the 35 MPH (56 KLH) Wind Gusts would be too much for walking outside. She also managed to lose her small purse that she has worn for walking lately. She also said that she never had a purse like that. ????

I talked her into walking the Mall but first we stopped at Tim Horton’s to buy Smile Cookies. 100% of the of the proceeds this week, will go to supporting local Charities. We each had on before leaving the parking lot.

When we finally arrived at the Tecumseh Mall, we parked close to the Food Court. That gave us the chance to walk along the stores on one side of the Concourse, before eventually returning to look on the other side. I have tried many times to help Kathy buy some new clothes but like the walk, she always comes up with an excuse as to why she can’t. After she looked in a few stores with no results, I thought I would take her mind off the issue.

When we first moved into this Apartment, our Phones were cheaper as was our Internet and Television, that have more than Doubled in Price. Unfortunately, prices have really increased so the first thing we did was to switch our Phones from Bell to Freedom Mobile. We can now travel around the world using the same Phones with no Roaming Fees for less than Half the cost. We stopped to ask what they had to help us out with our Television and Internet. What they have is 25% of what we are presently paying, but it will increase by $20.00 after the first year, but never again. Unfortunately, it is not Mobile but uses the same Cable Connections we presently use. With limited time today, we’ll go back next week.

We kept on walking the Mall and finally arrived at a Clothing Store that has changed names at least Six times since we have been shopping here. Donna helped Kathy with suggestions along with Colour adjustments. Another thing that our Governments have done to stimulate the economy has put a freeze on Taxes for Clothing. That helped Kathy change her mind on her New Outfit. Too bad the Government, does not freeze the Taxes on Food.

With it being after 5:00 we drove over to Wendy’s to have Chicken Nuggets for supper, just like yesterday.

Kathy’s legs were bothering her from not walking as much today, (Quarter Mile) and asked that I drop her off at the front entrance. Though I brought up her Clothing purchase and she immediately placed it in the Bedroom. She has repeatedly asked me throughout the night if we brought it in.

After watching the “6 o’clock Local News”, we also watched “Will Trent”, “R. J. Decker” and “High Potential”.

With tomorrow being a Special Day, Kathy has already gone to Bed. Once I have published our Blog, I will start the night in my Recliner and join her shortly after.

Jumped Out Of My Skin.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

Just when my sleep habit was finally headed in the right direction, it was a total turn around last night. After only a brief time in my Recliner, I was off to Bed where I had hoped to spend the rest of the night. Similar to Saturday Night, the Pain in my Neck and Shoulders drove me back to the Recliner. On Saturday, just under Half the night was spent in the chair. Last night, over Three Quarters of the night was spent in the Livingroom.

Due to my occupation and the noise in the environment, I needed to wear Ear Plugs under my Welding Shield to protect my hearing. By doing it so often, my ears needed to replace the earwax that the Plugs removed. Since retiring, the wax overbuilds so much that it occasionally blocks my hearing. Struggling to clear the blockage will take days so thinking that I would get things ready for breakfast this morning, I nearly jumped out of my skin, when I turned round to see Kathy only inches from me, something that does not happen when I can hear properly.

After our breakfast snack we took our Coffees to the Computers. There were only about Ten Blogs that were published overnight, so I set about looking. In the US your Income Tax Returns need to be filed by April 15th, but in Canada it is April 30th. Kathy used to have all the paperwork organized so we could simply bring our returns to our Accountant by the middle of March. With the Dementia changing the way she thinks, all that organizing has gone out the window. I spent the remainder of the morning finding the required paperwork, on the Desk, on the Table, on the End Table next to Kathy’s chair. I used a clear resealable cover to put it all together.

After having Italian Wedding Soup for lunch, we were soon headed out the door. At 64 F (18 C) Kathy wore her Denim Jacket, while I wore my T-Shirt. Our first stop was Guardian Storage, to collect the Mail we had forgot about last weekend. The Mailbox was full and there was a Package that I had forgotten about. I hope that I’m not losing it.

Besides the needed Tax Papers, this morning I found a Government Cheque that was postmarked March. I’ll be taking care of the Mail from now on. A quick stop at the Credit Union and the Cheque was added to our accounts.

Our next stop was our Accountant’s Office. One of his appointments had cancelled so he was able to take us immediately. An hour later, we were walking out the door. The only thing that will keep us away next year is his rising cost. Has anyone personally tried Turbo Tax? I have heard both good and bad things about it.

We drove over to Wendy’s to have Chicken Nuggets for supper, before heading for home.

Even with the outside temperature only reaching 68 F (20 C), we still had to open the Balcony Door when we walked into our Apartment.

On the “6 o’clock Local Newsit seems that Windsor was struck by more violence. Why can’t people just get along.

Around 8:00 Kathy had an Apple for a snack, while I had an Orange. We only watched a couple episodes of “Forensic Files” before relaxing.

With overnight/early morning Rain in the forecast, we are still hoping to get out for an afternoon walk tomorrow.
