Restless Again, Severe Weather Alert and Special Birthday.

Our Location today is at Windsor, Ontario.

It may sound unbelievable to those that can sleep soundly every night but when you are the one not getting decent sleep you understand. Even after taking Melatonin before going to bed I continually woke every time I rolled over and I didn’t just fall back to sleep. The end result is to make up for that kind of night you tend to sleep later into the morning.

I’d barely opened the Balcony Blinds this morning when Kathy came out to join me. We had finished eating our breakfast before I had the chance to make our morning Coffee/Tea. Looking outside the Sun was shining brightly while really accenting all the fall colours in the Trees.

Starting to get darker in this picture,

Turning on the Computers the first thing I always check is The Weather Network for the area we are in and the screen turned Red. Across the page the warning of Severe Weather Alert with the Risk of Hail, High Winds and Tornadoes were possible. Next thing I checked was the Radar to find a narrow band of Severe Storms from Texas already stretched through the state of Michigan slowly slipping our way.

Looking at that blue sky you would think someone had made a mistake. The temperature was already 70 F (21 C) so we had the Balcony Door wide open. We continued working at the Computers without thinking more about until we started to realize it was getting Dark and the Wind was picking up. We closed the Door to only Six Inches Wide.

Kathy was finally able to contact our dear friend Vera to wish her a Happy Birthday. We thought we would swing by for a few minutes but she had Doctor’s Appointments through the afternoon. What better way to spend your birthday? She would call us when she got home later.

Having had a late breakfast we were going to keep lunch Lite but then Kathy got a craving. She then mixed up badder for Biscuits that we would have with our Chicken Noodle Soup and our Mandarin Oranges for dessert. Kathy loved the way the Biscuits tasted with Butter while I preferred dipping mine into my soup giving them the taste of Dumplings.

By the time we finished cleaning the Kitchen and Dishes the Wind started sounding strange but when we looked out we found out why. The Wind was carrying Rain horizontal to the ground from the west. We closed the Door to an Inch. That was when we started hearing distant Thunder and seeing flashes of Lightning.

We were starting to think we weren’t going to hear from Vera when she finally called at 5:20. She had just gotten in because the power to the Parking Garage in her building had gone out. She invited us over to visit so we agreed.

It was still Raining so I had Kathy wait by the Back Entrance while I brought the Car around. My feet were getting damp because the puddles were over an Inch deep in the parking lot all around our Car. There was no use trying to run the wipers intermittently.

We had not eaten so we went to Wendy’s Drive-Thru for their Chicken Wraps and Seniors Soft Drinks. The line of cars stretched around their building but within Five Minutes we were leaving with our food.

Kathy had her food while I drove to Walmart. Once we were parked I started having my supper. When Kathy was finished she went inside for a quick pick up.

We arrived at Vera’s building only Five Minutes later then Planned. Vera’s face lit up just seeing us but then she nearly started crying when we gave her a small Birthday Cake. We had lots to talk about along with her asking me to check a few things for her. The one was a Halogen Lamp that kept changing its brightness level. Since it had an adjustable switch I checked that for loose wires and bad connections. I suggested replacing it with a more economical LED Lamp and she agreed.

Then she asked if I could center a Commemorative Plate on the top shelf in her China Cabinet. Being taller then her I had no problem but it still looked crooked. Last January there was a water leak that ruined her Hardwood Floors so they had to be replaced. When the Contractor moved the China Cabinet back in place put it crooked. Just by putting my hand between the wall and the Cabinet I was able to straighten it up.

Even though we had only Planned to visit for an Hour it was nearly Three Hours later when we left to head for home. Walking outside the Rain had finally stopped. Back at our building there was hardly any water in the parking lot.

What will happen tomorrow we’re not sure but we have learned about making Plans. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.

Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  7. We had a short lived thunderstorm. When I was walking the dog this afternoon I see that a maple tree has twisted and broken on the hill behind the house.
