Traveling to a New Adventure.

Our Location today is Apopka, Florida.

In yesterday’s post I stated how we had prepared for the below freezing weather that was predicted. Well around 2:00 it felt like it was the start of the next Ice Age and sticking our heads under the covers was the only way to warm up. By 3:00 it was so cold in the trailer you could see your breath. Something was definitely wrong! The furnace was not doing its job at keeping us warm.
Heading to Old Town from Yellow Jacket RV Park.
I got up and tried raising the thermostat with no luck. The next thing to check was the fuel source so at 3:15 in the morning I slipped on my shoes and jacket over my pajamas and headed out the door to check the propane tank. The indicator on the regulator was red and with a tap of my knuckles on the tank you could hear the empty sound echoing back.
South on Hwy 19 from Old Town, Florida.
After a quick turn of the valve of the second tank I heard the propane filling the line. Back inside the trailer the furnace still wasn’t turning on so I switched it off then back on. Immediately I heard the burner ignite so I took my jacket and shoes off and slipped myself back under the covers thinking that my own body heat would help me get comfortable to go back to sleep. Wrong I lay wide awake and didn’t fall asleep until after 5:30. This was so typical of most nights I have before a travel day.
Shortly after 8:00 we got up to a nice toasty warm trailer to have our breakfast. Once we had eaten it didn’t take long to get dressed and close up the inside of the trailer. The outside temperatures had already risen to 45 F (7 C) by the time I got out the door at 9:30. Another hour later we were hooked up and saying goodbye to Joe, Deb and Harley before driving out the gate of Yellow Jacket RV Park.
Our Trailer is across the street in the Cracker Barrel Parking for RVs.
We wound our way down Hwy 19 to 27 before heading down I-75. Noticing it was now afternoon the first sign leading to a Cracker Barrel we took it. This Cracker Barrel parking lot was filled with cars but it held a surprise they had separate RV and Bus parking in a separate parking lot across the street.
Kathy wanted me to follow that truck with all the oranges.
After a relaxing but filling lunch we were back on I-75 until we got to Hwy 44 before finally heading in the home stretch down Hwy 441. We finally arrived at the Orange Blossom K.O.A. RV Park by 3:00 and by the time we were parked, hooked up and settled in it was close to 5:00.
Heading south on Hwy 441
Not having been here before we were a little let down as the back of rig is about 100 feet from Hwy 441 and there is fairly constant traffic driving by. On the bright side it’s a level sight with a cement patio and we are only 50 feet from the office, shower house, pool and laundry room.
Getting our utilities set up for the next month.
This is where we will call home for the next four weeks while we explore the area. Tonight is slightly warmer and I should be able to sleep better. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. I feel your pain on the KOA being so close to a highway. We stayed at the Benton KOA in Denton, IL for a work assignment(you can read about it on my blog under the July post "Working Vacation in Marion, IL"). The KOA we stayed at was right next to I-57 and it was CONSTANT traffic. Hope you have fun exploring the area. We love Craker Barrel too. Anytime is a good time for breakfast. Curt

  2. Glad you had a safe travel day. A stop at Cracker Barrel is always yummy! Can't wait to see and hear all about Apopka. I will have to check out the KOA there......we stay at them often!

    Until next time.....enjoy!

  3. We find that KOAs are always on the noisy side as they are nearly always near a main road. Cracker Barrels are always a good bet, especially with an RV!
