As most of yesterday’s commenters guessed, I have been told that my Inner Ear Imbalance is a form of Vertigo and it does not just affect my Balance. It will sometimes cause a mental block. (Example: For years I can remember Inner Ear Imbalance, but have difficulty remembering the simple word Vertigo.) Simply looking at my shoes will trigger the problem, but by my touching something with Both Hands puts everything back in prospective. Having one hand to guide a Feedscrew in position, while the other is operating the Controls has me totally stable. Once it is installed in the Machine and only One Hand is busy I’m off balanced.
I mentioned a neighbour Peter that always had to drive because if he didn’t he’d get sick. His specialist told him, his Brain was sensing the movement from his Hands, taking away the spinning motion.
That basically explained my day. I moved a Twenty Foot Feedscrew into the Plasma Transfer Arc with the only problem being bent over to position the Load Strap, then after it was mounted between the Positioner and Tailstock, when only One Hand was needed. The rest of the day was spent monitoring the welding process. During that time I mostly sat, but each time I simply moved my world was turning around me. At the end of the shift, I reversed the process, by taking the Unit from the PTA, to the Sandbox to stay warm overnight. The moment One Hand was not busy, the spinning began again.
Another thing that happened yesterday, was I lost part of my lunch by simply laying down. Today from all the bending to take off my Coveralls and Workboots, it felt like I was going to be sick. After talking to Kathy I started driving but with only One Hand, because the other was covering my mouth, until I could safely pull over. Another half lunch gone.
I let Kathy know we were taking the Truck, because of the way I felt, so I picked her up at the front door of our building. With Both Hands on the steering wheel, there were no problems getting where we needed.
We arrived at Fantastic Sam’s with minutes to spare to get our Haircuts. Due to the way I felt, I leaned my head against the wall to settle my stomach. By the time Julia was finished with Kathy things were improving, but I made a personal request. “Lock the chair in the position that you need it and then I’ll sit down”. When told of my ride home there was only small talk after that.
It was past 6:30 when we left feeling better, so we stopped at Wendy’s for supper. Kathy had her Chicken Wraps, while I had a Chicken Sandwich with Fries to quell the way my stomach was still feeling. Not good for the diet but it stayed down.
Carrying my Lunchbag in one hand and using my Cane with the other, we safely made it to the Apartment. After putting things where they belong, the moment I sat down I succumbed to a Snap (Short Nap). I managed to feel better before holding on for dear life to the Assist Bar in the Shower. “Who ever heard of the walls moving in a shower”?

http://www.taoofherbs.com/articles/135/InnerEarBalanceVEDA.htm?source=bing&keywords=SL-IEB9 check that link out, the stuff cures vertigo. Have not had another episode in over a decade.
ReplyDeleteThat must be an awful feeling when everything spins and I would be sick too. I still think you need a rest from work and maybe need to drink more? There is a reason to retire at a certain age!
ReplyDeleteI didn't follow the link above, but check out the Epley maneuver. It is a simple movement that realigns the inner ear. As badly as you have vertigo I'd be sure to have help to keep yourself from falling off the bed when you do it.
