Still Struggling.

Our Location today is Windsor, Ontario.

It was back to limping my way to the Truck this morning while cursing under my breathe at the Excruciating Hip/Leg Pain I was experiencing. Having passed the information on to Mile that, “My ability to continue working under these conditions was quickly slipping away and he should be looking for another Welder”, seems that by not pushing me as hard is his answer. That won’t work too well, if I can no longer do the job.

There was a change in the order of Feedscrews scheduled for delivery, so the small Unit that had already been mounted in the PTA, before I left yesterday, had to be removed and a Six Inch Rebuild took it’s place. Mile noted my difficulty setting up the Burners, so when he saw me lining up the Step-Ladder to add the Hard-Surfacing Powder to the Bin, he sent Vic over to do that chore for me.

After a few delays, such as a touch up using the TIG Welder the “Begin to Weld” button was finally pressed at 9:20. With the rotation of the Positioner being only .15 RPM it would take over Two Hours per pass, if everything ran smoothly. The Torch was in a wandering mood and had to be redirected many times. Luckily since the Lead-In was the same for the entire length, it was easy to stop the process and restart anywhere needed. Mile came to check on the progress just as Vic was having issues with the machine. He had stepped in while I used the washroom. That proved to Mile I was not exaggerating my claims.

Still monitoring the Plasma Transfer Arc’s progress, it was past 1:00 by the time I spoke to Kathy. Again the warning that I might be late was passed on.

Progress was slow but steady and I was just about to pull the Screw from the PTA when a Semi arrived to pick up completed Units. Since there is only a single Crane in that bay, it was just past 4:00 by the time it was buried in the Sandbox, and another few minutes to close things up.

Again I struggled to get from the Truck to the Apartment. Supper was a Store-Bought Thin-Crust Spinach Pizza that we shared.

With the beginning of Fall fast approaching, it looks like we might be seeing more Summer-Like weather coming our way.

Words of Inspiration

When we speak, we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed, but when we are silent, we are still afraid. So, it is better to speak.

  2. If mile decides to practice a little more situational awareness he could assign a fellow employee to be assist & to be mentored you with the PTA work?

    1. Rick, don't waste what precious time you have left with Kathy and traveling. Getting the medical attention you need and resting for a couple of months instead of working so hard will put you in much better shape to hit the road south for the winter.
