High Winds Leave Us Gasping and Small Feast.

Our Location today is at Windsor, Ontario.

As mentioned in our Blog many times both Kathy and I have Sleep Apnea therefore we use CPAP Machines as a way to keep us breathing every night when we sleep. When we lived in our RV Fulltime we were never worried about power because we used an Inverter that used Battery Power to keep us going. Now that we have moved into the Apartment we are plugged into the building’s own power source.
This was out High for the day at 9:30.
Shortly after Midnight the Winds in this area started picking up and by the time we finally woke up at 8:30 we had lost power Four Times. Those outages were only momentary but each time our CPAP Machines would shut down before restarting. Imagine what it is like waking up gasping for air each time that happens.
An Hour later this was our temperature.
While we were having breakfast we sometimes had a hard time speaking to each other. The Wind speed had increased to include gusts of 50 MPH make lots of noise off the Balcony Rail. We figured a way of solving this dilemma so we started making our List.
As we were busy getting caught up on our Computer reading our daughter Karen called with the results of Greg’s family get together. She also made us an offer we could not refuse.
Lunch was Lite having Vegetable Soup with a couple of Cookies and a Yogurt Cup for dessert.
As soon as that was done we were out the door. Our first stop was a nearby Shoppers Drug Mart in search of a special Compression Glove that helps ease the Arthritic Pain in Kathy’s Hand. Somehow the one she had just disappeared and even though we practically turned the Apartment as well as the Car upside down we couldn’t find it. They had what we were looking for but only in the small size. I was determined to find just the right sized Glove to help control her pain.
The second Shoppers Drug Mart at the Tecumseh Mall had the perfect sized Compression Glove. As soon as we were comfortable in the Car Kathy put the new Glove on and within minutes could feel less pain in her Hand.

Our next stop was Guardian Storage where after collecting our Mail we headed to our Climate Controlled Storage Unit. With our List in hand we were able get a number of Toiletries as well as our Battery Backup Units.
Our next stop was the Zehr’s grocery store to get the few things on our List that we could not find in our Storage Unit.
We finally headed over to Karen’s house in Tecumseh where the only one there was Sanford. He immediately brought out his latest toy to show us and cherished the attention that he was getting. It breaks our heart when he watches us leave in disappointment through the Side Window next to the door.

With the high Wind still blowing I dropped Kathy at the Front Door of the Apartment before going to park the Car. I was really glad I did that because the Wind nearly blew me off my feet and if Kathy had been with me she would have certainly had a problem.
Scalloped Potatoes, Ham, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots and Grilled Pineapple.
After bringing everything upstairs Kathy busied herself making our supper from the Leftovers that Karen had put aside for us from Greg’s family get together. It was a Small Feast all the way to dessert. It was a very satisfying meal. Thank You Karen and Greg. We really enjoyed the meal.
Cute Cupcakes.
I tried setting up the Battery Backup Units by reconnecting their Batteries. They have been in storage for nearly Four Years and seemed to have lost their charge. All we can do is hope we don’t lose power tonight and leave the Units plugged in overnight. If that doesn’t work I’ll be finding replacements really fast.

We watched a couple more Hallmark Christmas Movies tonight before watching the 11 o’clock Local News. The wind is picking up again. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!

  1. Sorry about the bad weather, hope it improves soon. I am always amazed how Sanford knows what toy you gave him last.

It was nice of your daughter and son-in-law to share his Christmas family's feast with you guys.

  5. Leonard uses a CPAP also. Now that he is on oxygen it is more of a challenge. At home he uses a oxygen concentrator. He has an adapter for the CPAP so both is used at night. It is not possible to use the CPAP with the portable Inogen One. Therefore, while visiting family the last few weeks, he used only the Inogen. Back home last night was the best sleep he's had for weeks.

Hope the winds have subsided by now up there in windy country.

  6. Happy New Year to you both, Rick & Kathy. We hope this upcoming year brings you joy, good health and some epic new adventures. Hoping that you too get to head south for the next winter season. Guess we both have to tolerate this one!! Thanks for all your efforts with your blog posts. They are very enjoyable!

  11. We're having wind today but nothing like yours. Glad you found a glove for Kathy. I may try one of those for my knuckles. Good luck with the batteries. It may pick-up a charge by connecting it to a good battery if you can.
