With cooler temperatures last night we simply closed the Windows as a way of having a comfortable sleep. With all the Fresh Air that we were exposed to yesterday there was no need to worry that we would sleep soundly. We did have a big surprise this morning because we actually saw the Sun shining brightly.
We spent the morning doing our usual reading at the Computers as well as our inside chores. Top that off with Chicken and Rice Soup for an early lunch along with Cheese as a side. For dessert we had a Yogurt Cup and shared some Grapes.
Trying to clean up the Yucca Plant.
We were outside by noon to work on our Front Flowerbed. It was starting to look out of balance and we wanted to make it look right. When we first moved to this Site Two Years ago there was only Three Plants in that Flowerbed. The first was a Fern that was trying to take over not only the Flowerbed but we found its roots stretched out even into our Grass. They are beautiful if kept contained but never plant them in the garden. We removed it that first year and continued to find new growths of it at the end of last year.
Raking Mulch. Saving it on the Tarp.
We tried planting a few lovely plants but we didn’t realize that they were like a delicacy to Rabbits. When the Leaves disappear One Day and the Branches the Next you learn really quick.
Still gathering Mulch. Noticed trimmed Yucca Plant.
There were Two other plants that were in the Front Flower Bed. They were a Lilac Shrub and Yucca Plant. It seemed that the Lilac Shrub was sending its roots all over the Flowerbed just under and through the Landscaping Cloth. It could also have grown quite tall so in order to have that balance I spoke about it had to be removed.
Lilac Bush and Yucca Plant removed.
About to move Decorative Long Grass.
Notice how much Mulch is on the Tarp.
Placing a Plastic Tarp on the Grass we collected as much of the Mulch as possible. Once it was removed we had planned on trimming our Yucca Plant but it seemed to have become diseased. We also noticed a lot of Roots throughout the Flowerbed that were coming from it. The decision was made to remove it entirely as well. We were finding Bulb-Like Roots that were even growing in the hard Clay. There was lots of extra digging done so that it would not be returning.
Securing Landscape Cloth under Decorative Brick Edging.
One of our neighbours told us that he had spent Three Years trying to get rid of One. He also said they were on the Invasive Species List for this Area. Another Woman said some told her it was called a Yuk Yuk Plant. She didn’t believe the name Yucca that we were telling her. Her friend is very knowledgeable and wouldn’t lead her astray. After moving a Decorative Long Grass Plant we also planted a Hosta to balance the Flowerbed out.
We worked together to lay all new Landscape Cloth before we stopped for supper at 6:30. Kathy made Toasted Chicken Salad Sandwiches with a side of Coleslaw then a couple of Cookies with a Yogurt Cup for Dessert.
The finished Front Flowerbed.
We finished replacing all the Mulch on the Landscape Cloth just before 8:00 but looking around our Site we’ve already spotted another chore.
To let you know Yuk Ka Plants do exist but have Trunks similar to trees and they have Thorn-Like Edges on their Leaves. Our warm showers felt wonderful tonight and I’m certain that they will help us to relax before going to bed. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
