I’m sure many of you that are retired have had people tell you that you have all kinds of free time on your hands. Today was the kind of day that we would use to prove otherwise.
We were up making breakfast by 8:00 this morning so we could attend a retirees meeting down at the local. Every once in a while there are changes to our contracts that change not only the benefits of active workers but also those who have retired.
By 10:00 Kathy and I were in the meeting listening intently as many different things were brought up and some being challenged. In the end all was agreed upon and presentations were made by the local Science Center. Their aim was to get people who have time on their hands to volunteer for a number of tasks since the local center is run mostly by private donations and volunteers. It is a place that helps teach children of all ages the importance of science in our lives and world today.
When the meeting was over at noon they served a light luncheon to those that attended the meeting. Kathy and I had a chance to briefly visit with Ernie Spicket who served his apprenticeship at the same time that I had. We had become close friends over the years especially being in the same trade.
The last time I had met Ernie was winter 2011 because Kathy and I buckled down to getting our house cleaned up and cleaned out to sell in less than four months. Once the sale went through we had to find an apartment, have a couple of garage sales, sign the papers for the new trailer and move within 45 days. Then we were travelling and I would miss the monthly meetings.
Finally today we had the chance to reconnect. Ernie and his wife Sheryl had been thinking of buying an RV when I last spoke to him. Last month they became the proud owners of a new to them Super B-Class 28 foot motorhome. The problem is they still haven’t had a chance to take a trip with it but they’re planning to.
We needed to stop at the storage yard to put some things in the trailer so I invited Ernie to tag along and show him what I had described to him two years before. He was amazed with it and said it was better now with the improvements we had made. Maybe someday we’ll be able to camp out together.
Once she was home we headed to the grocery store. Back home we got the groceries put away just on time to start cooking supper.
It’s a good thing that we’re retired or we would never know that there are only 105 days left before Christmas Day. Thanks for following along. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
