Just before going to bed last night I set up our Second
Rand McNally
GPS to
download its newest updates. No use spending Hours waiting for it so I was
in Dreamland long before it finished its task. After having a very Restful
Night’s Sleep I woke up the Computer to do the File Transfer
while I got things ready for breakfast as well as opening the Window Shades.
Just before 8:00 when I returned the message on the Computer
said “File Transfer Complete” so the next step was to check it out. After
unplugging the GPS from the Computer as soon as it turned on a
message saying “Updated Map File Transfer Incomplete” appeared. The Computer
said one thing but the GPS said another and the moment I dismissed
the message the GPS shut down. I managed a few other attempts that ended
with the same results just before Kathy came downstairs.
Once breakfast was complete and we took our Coffees
to the Computers I searched to find the GPS Download File with
no success. I tried reconnecting the Two Machines back together. I made
it to the Rand McNally Dock Site but it showed “No Updates Available”.
I tried chatting with a Tech Support but they sent a Case Number to
my E-mail Address but didn’t tell me how to fix the problem.
Before opening the door and giving the GPS a toss,
I decided to do my usual morning reading. I was surprised by Nancy’s comment
saying that she was getting Underlined Words in our Blog but in no
one else’s. Kathy checked a number of our posts and couldn’t find anything so I
logged out trying to fool the Computer to think I was a stranger
checking the post but still found no Underlined Words. I know that I Bold
and Colour
Words for Emphasis (something our English
Teachers would have cracked our knuckles for), but the only Underlined
Words that I recall is when I Link to someone else’s Blog. If
anyone has any idea why this might be happening please let us know.
It was past 1:30 when we sat down for a Late
Lunch so Kathy again thought it wise to make this our larger meal. While I heated
up some Pea Soup, Kathy made us each a Tuna Salad Sandwich with a
couple of Clementine Oranges for dessert.
With a comfortable feeling I rechecked my E-mail
but nothing from Tech Support so I called them. Same as yesterday, I connected
the GPS to the Computer before calling Rand McNally.
After Ten Minutes on Hold, I explained our problem before being transferred
to the Programing
Department. It was Fifteen Minutes later that I was
repeating the problem again, this time to Dave and explained that I couldn’t
find the Files.
Because the GPS is the equivalent of an External
Drive storing data when connected to the Computer, he directed me to
go into the GPS itself. He then talked me through to find a couple of Files
and to delete them. He had me disconnect the GPS from the Computer
and try it. It worked like a charm! Those Two Files were corrupted and
causing the problems. The Programmers are working on replacing those Files
in the next month.
Dave informed me that if you have Lifetime
Updates on a Rand McNally GPS you are allowed to Update it every Month.
I had been told by the Salesperson once a year year.
Around 7:00 Kathy was starting to feel hungry and
when she saw the Strawberries in the fridge she knew what to make. She cleaned
them up before having me mash them into a Topping. Kathy made Pancakes
which I added Butter, Syrup, the Strawberries and some
Cool Whip for flavouring. They tasted wonderful.
After doing the dishes we settled in to watch a
movie called “Raising Helen” with Kate Hudson. The story is about a
young career woman who is suddenly thrust into the role of being a parent. It
is a Romantic Comedy but is a role that many people have had to take on
in their lives. Good Movie!
Now that we know that both our GPSs will work
the way they should this year we’ll find something else to work on tomorrow and
it looks like the Weather will be on our side. Thank
you for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.

You've ever used power tools to loosen crusted
pennies from your center console.
I've haven't seen any lines or anything out of the ordinary when reading your post. Looks just like it does everyday :) I hate dealing with anything techie but hopefully you've got it figured out now. Your lunch and dinner looked delicious! Love Kate Hudson but never seen the movie, will have to now.
ReplyDeleteNice to get that darn GPS fixed!! Next time it should be easy peasy!!
ReplyDeleteThose pancakes look delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe reason he person is seeing that is they acceicentaly downloaded an ad program when they were getting something else. If not watched closedly when downloading and installing some things they have an ad program and if you do not uncheck the box you get the ad program that causes the words to be underlined. So it's the person that sees the underlined words that needs to go to add remove programs and remove the ad program which can usually be found by looking for the latest install dates.
ReplyDeleteIt's not you, it's them.
