After
putting in our Ear Plugs last night we both had a Peaceful
Sleep. When I woke up at 6:50 I planned to start putting our
Computers away before waking Kathy but only managed to get
mine done when she came downstairs at 7:05. We had the last of the
Cherry Cheese Cake that Kathy made the other day along with
our morning Coffee for breakfast rather then letting it go to
waste besides what better way to start the day then with a Sugar
Buzz.
While
I closed up the CPAPs and made the bed Kathy checked her
E-Mail and did the few Dishes we had dirtied. After
switching spots I finished putting away her Computer while she
got dressed. By 8:20 we had done our circle check and moved from the
Walmart over to the Big
K gas station at the end of the lot.
After
all the Issues we had with the Truck last fall when we arrived
in Quartzsite we just mellowed down and didn’t travel very
much. We were told years ago that when you travel to always carry Two
Credit Cards in case something happens to One and that has
saved us when One became Compromised. “Another
Story!” When I went to fuel up this morning the Credit Card
was rejected because it had Expired. We had not looked at the
Expiration Date in ages and failed to notice the it Expired
Today. Our New Credit Cards are waiting for us in our Mail
Box back in Windsor. In the
meantime the Second Card saved our backsides.
I
spent another Fifteen Minutes getting rid of the Bug
Splatter Collection we picked up during our travels yesterday
before we finally hit the road.
Having
looked at Mapquest last night it
showed that if we drove south on State Route
87 it would connect us with I-10
north of Tucson. Since SR
87 was well maintained and smooth we decided to drive
those Fifteen Miles rather then backtracking. There is lots of
Agriculture along the way which attracts a lot of different
insects. One second we were enjoying the Clear View out our
Windshield when suddenly it was covered by Thousands of
tiny specks as if we had run through a swarm on No-See-Ums. We
were both amazed at how the Windshield appeared to be covered
by a fog and the Wipers did little to help.
Even
though it was a little difficult we made it through the Tucson
Area before spotting the sign for Cracker
Barrel. We enjoy their Down Home Cooking and you
get your monies worth. While enjoying our meal the Waitress
next to our table flipped a Plate that caused quite a racket.
Kathy had just finished commenting that the Wait Staff at this
location seemed to be using the same door to enter as well as exit
the Kitchen when suddenly Two Waitresses collided and
One’s Tray that was filled with someone’s food order hit
the floor. The noise from that cause practically everyone in the
place to jump.
Walking
back out to the Truck just before noon I was once again busy
cleaning our Windshield. We even had a Sheriff's Deputy
pause to be certain we weren’t up to mischief.
Our
intended cutoff was Highway 80
heading south. Most that travel this route will tell you we were
heading straight towards Tombstone
and we were but not certain if we were stopping. As we crawled
through town because it seemed like those in front of us were trying
to turn on the already packed side streets we made the quick decision
to head on down the road.
We
headed towards Bisbee
which was another Twenty-Nine Miles up the road.
The scenery was breathe taking as the Sunlight and Colourful
Plants from the Wet Winter played off the mountains. We
have read many Blogs about this town and wanted to check it
out for ourselves. What we got to see was the Town
that is built on the Mountain Sides and the streets
only large enough for Passenger Vehicles not Truck
pulling a large RV. The only place we could
park in order to take a break was by the Open
Pit Mine Viewing Area.
Walking
around the parking lot we read the Information Boards that
told of the History of this Copper Mine. Now a town
that was once totally dependent on this operation has become known
for its many Artisan Shops.
Looking
at the Map and not wanting to go back the way we came from we
kept travelling east along Highway 80
with the plan to reconnect with I-10.
We had planned on travelling shorter days but couldn’t find
anywhere to park for the night being that we were so close to the
Mexican Border itself. We stopped
at the Douglas Visitors Welcome Center where
they told us there was nothing until we reached Lordsburg
in New Mexico.
We
had driven to within Ten Miles of the Arizona/
New Mexico Border when we came through what appeared to be
an area filled with Orchards. Just like earlier this
morning we drove into a Swarm of Insects that looked like a
bunch of Grapes being splattered against our Windshield.
This time it actually made us jump at its suddenness. Kathy actually
duck down thinking it was stones hitting our Window. Again the
Wipers only made a bigger mess making it hard to see the State
Line Sign. Trying to slow down with a Semi on your bumper
is a No-No.
Barely caught the New Mexico Welcome Sign. |
We
were both getting really tired but we couldn’t see anywhere to stop
for the night. While I was concentrating on the winding road Kathy
managed to spot a bunch of RVs in the distance then the sign
that read Rusty’s RV Park. At 5:30 MDT their Office
was already closed but Tim led us around to a very Level Gravel
Pull-Through Site that could easily have taken a longer Rig.
We’ll settle our bill in the morning.
Good Night from New Mexico. |
We
were so tired we never even connected the Utilities
or put the
Jacks
down. We are 21 miles southwest Lordsburg
but plan on driving to Deming
tomorrow where I plan
to
adjust a few things. In the last Two
days we have travelled 437.2
Miles
since leaving Quartzsite.
Thank
you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.

Sounds like the bugs are making a mess of everything, you sure have been busy cleaning them off!
ReplyDeleteYup ... aren't those bugs just wonderful? The black ones almost covered my entire windshield, which is HUGE. The big butterflies leave giant yellow splats!! I know just how you felt. Windshield wipers did NOTHING!!! Ummm yeah, there's no place near Bisbee (or anywhere along that road) for RV parking. Once you hit New Mexico it gets better.
ReplyDeleteI never use my wipers when the windshield is covered with bugs. But sometimes they are a mess.
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite the travel day. Don't those cards expire at the most inopportune times?! LOL. Glad you have a second one! Enjoy and travel safely.
ReplyDeleteWish you were traveling the I-20 then I-65 route to go north. We have Darlene and Jim (who read your blog) here on one of our sites for a few days. Last night they said they would love to meet you. As would we.
ReplyDeleteThose love bugs in TX and LA make a sticky mess this time of year.
Yikes, you must have both been beyond exhausted after that day. Better luck today. We always plan our route home and the number of miles we will drive. That we figure where to stop for every night of the trip home and make some mileage adjustments as needed.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you were frustrated not finding a suitable place to stop and when tired and exhausted that's all you want to do. Hope things will go smooth from here on.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the ride you two took. The scenery along the road to Bisbee is beautiful. We stayed at Rusty's RV for a few days last year and really liked it there. No phone service but the WiFi there was the best we ever experienced. Plus that park is pretty much solar powered.
ReplyDeleteContinued safe travels.
DeleteStay safe!
ReplyDeleteYou sure did some driving yesterday. To bad you couldn't find a place to park it's a lovely town.
ReplyDeleteStay safe
