Even
though we had moved to the Amarillo RV Ranch
yesterday in order to let the High Winds die down we are still
making decent time getting back to Ontario
as a fact probably too fast. By doing research and finding out what
the real problem was then getting input from a lot of our RV
Friends with the Fridge working on AC Electric we
felt safe to carry on with our easterly trek.
One Lane Traffic due to Construction east of Amarillo.. |
I
started packing the Computers away by 7:30 this morning then
immediately started making breakfast. Having had a good night’s
sleep it was like Kathy had developed Super Hearing and
started getting out of bed when she heard the Toaster pop. We
reviewed our day’s plans as we ate then started closing up the rest
of the Trailer.
Always something burning in the distance. |
Since
we had been buffeted with 30+MPH Winds I had made certain that
all the Jacks were down and the Stabilizers snugged.
That meant extra work this morning including draining our Waste
Tanks once again to avoid carrying extra weight.
Lots of Red Dirt here. |
By
9:30 we were leaving the Ranch
making our way over to the Valero
gas station to top off with Diesel. At $2.699 a
Gallon we were getting a good deal but just like the other day
there was no Windshield Cleaning Fluid in their Buckets.
With all the Bug Smears it would have been quicker but since I
had to pull out my own Window Cleaner I just stayed parked at
the pump until I was done.
With
the Road Construction going on in the section of I-40
we had to drive nearly a mile before we were able to get
on the Interstate itself. There
were very few Cars on the Highway
mostly Semis and RVs. Before long the hills from the
Overpasses soon disappeared and the landscape became almost
flat.
One
of the main reasons we didn’t travel yesterday were the High
Winds along our path of travel. With a window of Two Days
with Lite Winds we planned on making tracks so we resisted
stopping until reaching Sayre,
Oklahoma where we stopped for
lunch at Denny’s at the Flying
J. We both ordered their Nacho Chips which are
actually Appetizers but large enough to make a meal out of.
They reminded us of the Cowboy Nachos served at the Main
Street Restaurant in Quartzsite.
These were good but we still like the Cowboy Nachos the best.
This is Five Miles from the State Line. |
This rest area was badly in need of a clean up. |
With
all the Rain the southwest has gotten this winter everything
is so colourful but there are lots of Bugs constantly finding
our Windshield. After eating lunch we pulled around to the RV
Fuel Islands. By using our Frequent User Card we
saved a Nickel a Gallon which brought it down to $2.949.
We were having problems cleaning the Windshield here because
the intensity of the Sun was drying the Window Cleaner
nearly as fast as it was being applied.
Oklahoma City Ahead. |
Don' mind the Bug Smears. |
After
having been off the road for over an hour we were soon dealing with
the headaches of Oklahoma City Traffic.
We continued with the hope of seeing Fort
Smith but when we saw the Fuel Gauge down to a
Quarter Tank we made a quick stop for Diesel at another
Valero station for $2.899 a Gallon. Another Ten
Minutes was spent cleaning off the Windshield.
Sculpture Name is ???? |
We
had set 5:30 as the time we wanted to be off the road on thes
marathon driving days. We travelled another Twelve Miles to
where we spotted the Checotah KOA.
This is a neat park but is very close to the Interstate
so like many other parks we have stayed in we’ll be
wearing our Ear Plugs to sleep tonight.
Air Museum along the Interstate in Oklahoma City. |
Little
did we know that those Nacho
Chips
we
for lunch would
fill us up so much that we only had a Juice
for our supper. We spent hours researching another slight change to
our route Home.
We plan on making a stop tomorrow before putting more miles between
us and High
Winds.
Then we’ll be able to relax and enjoy a more leisurely way of
travelling.
These are growing everywhere. |
These are everywhere in the Grass. |
In
case you are wondering we didn’t have a bit of a problem with the
Fridge
today even after traveling 365.6 Miles. Thank
you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be
Safe and Enjoy!
It’s
about time.

Rick, glad you got the refrigerator going again.
ReplyDeleteIt might help someone if you would tell us how you took care the problem?
Joe
I have to laugh ... for many many years we rode motorcycles around the country. The unwritten rule was you NEVER rode between 5:00 and 7:00 at night. TOO MANY BUGS!!! Glad you got your fridge to working.
ReplyDeleteWhen we traveled in Oklahoma along I-40 we would stay at Lucky Star Casino in Concho. FREE! Full hooks up, 50 amp. And you get a players card that gives you casino credit. And super easy to get into. What a deal! Might want to check it out for future reference.
ReplyDeleteMaking good time. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteGlad your fridge is working again! Those bugs are certainly issue for you guys! Springtime! Travel safely!
ReplyDeleteSo what was wrong with the fridge? That was a long travel day for you.
