One Of Those Days and I Got It.

Because I was already gone this morning when Kathy woke up she couldn’t tell me that she had a problem. Instead what she needed to do was to call our Family Dentist and plead that they have an opening today. She had spent most of the night awake due to a Tooth Ache. For breakfast she tried having Hot Cereal but could barely finish it cold. Drinking her hot Tea was intolerable so she had to let it get cold as well before drinking it.

She was at the Dentist Office in Amherstburg before 11:00 and she was brought right in. The prognosis was that an Old Filling had worked its way loose and had to be redone. Even being as careful as he could Kathy actually grabbed Sean’s arm a couple of times when she thinks he hit a nerve.

It was after 1:00 when she got back Home and the best she could do was to have a couple of Vanilla Yogurt Cups for her lunch. She then had a couple of Snaps to make up on some of the lost sleep that she’d had.

I also had trouble sleeping last night and compared it to Pretravel Jitters that only allowed me a Couple Hours of sleep. I was glad that I had used the Alarm Clock to get up early this morning. I had breakfast and was headed out before 6:00. Arriving before anyone else I had to wait for what I had been searching for.

When we had major problems with our Truck while we were in the southwest last Winter it hurt us Financially. The cost of the Repair times the Exchange Rate between the Canadian and American Dollars along with the fact that we needed to pay Income Taxes on the total had us reeling.

When we got back to Wildwood RV Park in McGregor I kept hearing that there were a lot of Job Openings in the Welding Field. I was out every chance I had between the Bad Weather and Doctors Appointments it was a little tricky. I’ve recently found that all those jobs that were being offered were through different Placement Companies that planned on making money off your work while paying next to minimum wage. Over a Dozen Placement Agencies were offering the same jobs.

All the research I’ve been doing lately was looking for a Job. With it being over Thirty-Seven Years since I went looking for a Job. Back then you simply showed up with your Journeyman’s Card and High Pressure Welding Certificate and you were hired on the spot. It was also a challenge especially since I have been Retired for over Ten Years. Kathy worked with me to refine and up to date a Resume for the first time in my life. There were Three Different Drafts written and presented to potential employers.

I looked at Contractors but you needed up to date Certificates. I looked at Fabrication Shops which was my Second Trade but they are facing cut backs. I even tried the Tool and Die Shops that require Welder/Fabricators to build their automation lines but they were just collecting Resumes at this time.

I was about to head for Home after another disheartening search when I stopped at the One Shop that I had probably driven past close to a Dozen Times in the last month. The reason was it said Laser Cutting on the Sign which I have never done. I know how to weld metal using Six Different processes but when you add the different metals it is closer to Twenty. I also know Six Different Metal Cutting processes but not Laser.

When I finally stopped at the Laser Cutting Place the Receptionist said the Manager was out but she would pass it on to him. I walked out the door really feeling down because it seemed the harder I was trying to get us ahead we were being pushed back.

I had just gotten near the Truck when a gentleman was hollering at me to come back. The Receptionist had given my Resume to the Business Owner who just happen to note that I could weld Aluminum using the GTAW (TIG) process. When Neil introduced himself and asked about my abilities I pointed out the Ten Year Retirement but assured him that I could do it. When he asked when I could do a Welding Test my response was Right Now. That shocked him.

I had my welding Equipment in the Truck and minutes later I was doing the Test. For not having done that process for the last Ten Years it came out perfect. The Supervisor thought that was just luck and had me do a Second Test with the same result. The Owner asked if I would work for them. When I said yes he said “Welcome Aboardand we shook on it.

They wanted to clean up an area for the new Product that I will be welding so I didn’t start until this morning. They had me repairing Two of the Welding Machines then building a Jig by myself that I’ll be using. Having been told that I would only be welding they were impressed with my other talents.

When I finally got Home that Shower felt wonderful. Since Kathy had not having eaten much all day she suggested we go to the A-1 Chinese Buffet in Essex for supper. On the way to the restaurant we realized we’d forgotten the Camera. Kathy said it was a “Picture Free Day”.

After eating we were satisfied but not stuffed when we headed to the Dollar Tree to walk around. Kathy found a few good Mystery Books at the unbeatable price of $1.25.

This morning as I was getting ready to go to “Work as I was putting on my Safety Shoes I snapped a Shoe Lace. Not the way to start the day.

We headed to Home Hardware got my new laces so my Shoes won’t fall off at work. This will modify our summer plans but will help us with our future travels. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
