Our Location today is Miami, Florida.
Last night we both slept so well we were sitting down having
breakfast before 7:00 this morning. Yes we had talked about making a day trip
but didn’t think it would be that big a deal yet we were leaving the park on
our way to Miami Beach shortly after 8:00. Now do you see a problem with that
time and destination?
When we left the park it wasn’t a big deal but about five
minutes after we turned onto Highway 1 we realized we’d made a mistake. We were
in the middle of rush hour. You know those people still tied to the 9 to 5 jobs
that keep the economy running type jobs. Kathy was getting a little concerned
travelling at 40 mph in bumper to bumper traffic three lanes across but that’s
why she’s the navigator not the driver.
We were also looking to find a place to get haircuts and she
had researched the area yesterday and had found a Supercuts not far from the
park. When we got there this morning the windows were all covered over with paper
and a For Sale sign was on the door. Going down Highway 1 we spotted another
Supercuts and immediately turned into the mall only to be disappointed for a
second time by the same sign. Miles further down the road we were now in the
center lane stopped for a light when Kathy spotted another Supercuts and it was
open. There was just no way of getting there so we landmarked where it was and
kept going.
Downtown Miami at 10:00 in the morning. |
Any time we have talked about going to Miami people have
always told us how dirty it was. Everything we saw was clean so either they
have been cleaning Miami up or we have seen dirtier places in our travels.
Being strangers in a big city that had bumper to bumper traffic that was
somewhat unnerving and since our GPS no longer speaks the street names it added
to the tension. The final straw was when the GPS took us to the Cruise Line
Docks instead of Miami Beach, Kathy just said to head back for home. Of course
once you are in the proper lane to head back to the park and you look over five
lanes of commuters stopped at a light to see a six inch by twelve inch sign
pointing to Miami Beach in the direction you are no longer going in. Ooops!
Within ten minutes we were back on Highway 1 in a less hectic
40 mph bumper to bumper traffic. Shortly after the third traffic light we see
the Supercuts on the other side of the road but with luck we were able to turn
around and finally get parked where the front of the truck stuck past the end
of the parking lines. After signing in for our haircuts we went next door to
Subway where we shared a six inch sub lunch special. So we didn’t miss our
place in line because the place was packed we walked back into Supercuts just in
time for Roberto to call Kathy’s name. I watched as he clipped away for ten
minutes before he got Kathy’s approval. Next he called my name and within seven
minutes he had finished with me. You know how everyone says time flies when you’re
having fun well this all happened before 12:00 noon.
Feeling refreshed we started back towards the trailer with
the intention of a few more landmarked locations. The first was a Big Lots
where we knew we could find a stainless steel tea pot to use when dry camping
and another item to finish off our portable outside vignette. From there we
stopped at Big Kmart more for the purpose of walking around but grabbed a snack
around 3:00 before heading back to the trailer.
So even though we didn’t get to see and experience Miami
Beach today we did get to see a lot of the city of Miami. Tomorrow we have
plans and they’re not just driving to the city and back. Thanks for following
along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.

Sure glad it was you driving around the big city, certainly not for us. I cut my own hair much easier. Suzie a little trim twice a year, somewhere close.
