Our Location today is Sugarloaf Key, Florida.
It truly is not fair that we are breathing all this tropical
warm air for most of the day but both Kathy and I had trouble sleeping through
the night. What didn’t help was when a Diesel Pusher came into the park at 4:45
and the roosters thought they had overslept and started crowing for the next
hour before settling down. Strange noises we are not use to wake us up but with
all the fresh air we thought we would sleep well.
I don’t know why we slept until 8:30 and we still felt tired
but we had a plan for today. Since we’ve never been to the Keys like this
before we’re really anxious to explore as much of it as possible.
By 9:30 we were back on Highway 1 heading north to Big Pine
Key Flea Market. We are always on the lookout for a bargain but mostly it’s for
the exercise and to see what is available. This was our third Flea Market this
season and enjoyed walking around and to actually seriously look for a few
items.
Kathy has finally found herself a couple of nice necklaces
that she’ll be able to use with multiple outfits that she has but it almost
didn’t happen when the daughter of the woman started trying to sell her more
than she wanted. She was too pushy. She almost walked away without making any
purchase.
I have found the benefits of the short bungees with the
balls on them this year. Most that I have looked at have been the lighter
weight bungees but today the one vendor had both the heavy and light weight in
a variety of lengths and a pack of twenty was a good deal.
Once we were finished there we had to go further north on
the highway so we could turn around to go south due to the heavy traffic flow. Now
it was getting close to lunch and Karen and Al had left a comment on last night’s
post about a place called Square Grouper Bar and Grill at Cud Joe Key which is
only two miles from our camp.
You always hear the saying that if the parking lot is full
it must be good food well it’s true. Not only was the parking lot full so was
the inside but we were given a table that had just been cleaned. The prices
were reasonable and we both ordered the Grouper sandwich that came with sweet
potato fries, Cole slaw and Key Lime Tartar Sauce/Yum. Everything was delicious
and our plates weren’t overfilled with fries. We did splurge and ordered each a
Sundae of Key Lime Ice Cream that was done perfectly but they were nearly as
expensive as the sandwiches.

Once back at the trailer it was time to get serious and get
chores done. Kathy had to clean the fridge and began making Homemade Chicken
Noodle Soup.
After dumping our waste tanks I started laundry since it’s
been over a week. The laundry room at the park is on a raised platform between
the Men’s and Women’s washrooms which are presently being renovated. They only
have seven washing machines but twenty-four dryers under a roof that helped
keep you cool from the blazing sun.
For supper a bowl of Kathy’s Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup
was more than enough for our meal. Thanks for following along and feel free to
leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.

Do you know what the meaning of "Square Grouper" is? It is specific to the Keys and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI admit you made me curious so I had to look it up...of course then I remembered they used to call marijuana bales square groupers. Thanks for reminding me!
DeleteWe were at the flea market yesterday as well. We get most of our produce at one of the produce stands.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked the Square Grouper. If you get a chance next Friday, the Philly Cheese-steak is terrific and they have a chicken cheese-steak special another day. Maybe Tuesday??
You might like Boondocks if you liked the Beatles. They have a Beatles tribute band there this week-end and they were very good. No cover charge and reasonable prices.
You also might like to see the Tarpon feeding at Robbies in Islamorada, sunset at the Sunset Grill in Marathon, walk the bridge at Bahia Honda State Park and walk the old railroad bridge built by Henry Flagler. Just some suggestions.
Boy are you two enjoying the good life in the Keys. Love the caption under the dog photo. Very clever indeed.
ReplyDeleteAlways things to see and do in the Keys, have too much fun.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun in the Keys!
ReplyDeleteA fun day browsing and a yummy dinner--what could be better?
