Plans Get Changed, Learning More About Local Culture and Learning Our Way Around.

Our Location today is North Ranch, Congress, Arizona, U.S.A.

With the Sun peaking around the Window Shades this morning I was up shortly after 7:30 to start my day. Even with the windows being left open at night we still lower the Shades for some privacy. By the time I had gone around letting more sunlight and fresh air in Kathy was already joining me for breakfast. We finished the last two Muffins knowing we wouldn’t be too busy this morning and that we’d probably be eating lunch out.

Lots of Silver Belt Work.
I was out the door by 10:00 walking up to the Park Office. Since our orders from Amazon won’t all be delivered until later next week we decided to extend our stay by a week. That guarantees that we’ll get the rest of our chores completed and maybe even start some new ones. Besides we’re not quite finished exploring the area.

This blanket doesn't look a Hundred Years Old.
By 10:30 we were on our way to Wickenburg knowing we had a few errands that needed to be done but believing that we’d be back early enough to get some chores done this afternoon. We have both gotten to where we don’t like a GPS spouting out directions that most times are incorrect (Like the Other Day) but we brought it along just in case.
Some of the Minerals found in Arizona.
It takes time getting used to new towns but eventually we start learning the shortcuts. Watching the Road Signs as we neared our destination I noted the name Vulture Mine Road that looked like it went quite a distance. Passing it by we took the next Round About that took us straight through the Historic Center of Wickenburg

We took a few turns here and there checking places out but I knew we had to get back on Wickenburg Way and within a Quarter Mile was our first stop. We made a purchase at the Family Dollar the other day that we realized would not suit our needs so we simply returned it with no problems.

Our next stop was another Quarter Mile on the opposite side of the street at Napa Auto Parts. We ordered the proper Pigtail Plugs the other day for the Marker/Signal Lights that we installed on our Trailer

Still learning the area and wanting to do more exploring we headed back downtown and managed to get a parking spot right on the corner of Main Street. No Metered Parking in this town. It was also nearly noon so Kathy suggested finding someplace to eat since our morning Muffins were long past.

They say the way to find a good restaurant is to look how many cars are in the lot. Looking across the street there was an entire string of Motorcycles parked in front of Deb’s Horseshoe CafĂ©. The place was packed with people that were Retired as well as Families and Couples. As soon as a table emptied it was cleaned and taken by someone walking in. The Three Waitresses worked together making certain everyone had their Drinks, Food and were happy. This place ran like a Clock. Kathy ordered a Hotdog while I ordered a Cheese Burger with Jalapenos and Onion Rings that we shared. We were just comfortable and the price was reasonable.

We needed to get more groceries but thought that it would be nice to visit the Wickenburg Museum across the street. It didn’t look too big so it wouldn’t take too long. It cost $10.00 each as seniors but we found out there were two buildings to see. The monies collected also went to the Operation of and Upkeep of these buildings. The first was a wonderful Private Collection of Local Indian Artifacts that had been assembled along with newer things pictured with those who had made them. We don’t rush like some people do and it took nearly Forty-Five Minutes to see this collection.
This smoke filled General Store carried anything a home could
need back in 1900.
What a Bedroom looked like back in the day.
Exiting by the side of the building we walked around to the Second Building which housed another private collection of Paintings, Carvings and Castings all pertaining to the state of Arizona. Many of these artists have long passed on but many are still working on their arts. There were Paintings that looked so real you could feel the presence of the picture. There was also a video playing that pointed out all the Highlights of Arizona that we sat to watch for a short while. There was a second floor of displays in the Basement that showed many artifacts that would have existed around 1900 and displayed the way you might have seen them back then. Before leaving we took a look inside the Gift Shop but didn’t bring that much money with us.

It was past 3:30 at this point and we were thirsty. Our Water-Bottles in the Truck were warm enough to make Tea. Right next door from where we had eaten lunch was another small shop called Bedoian’s Bakery & Bistro. The Iced Tea was refreshing and since they were getting ready to close at 4:00 we opted to each just try something from their Pastry Counter. Those few calories were not only Delicious but they would help us get though our Grocery Shopping. We’ll try them for lunch before we leave the area.

These Horses were getting friendly.
Heading for the Safeway we didn’t spend too much time shopping but we got nearly everything on the list. We got all the Groceries but missed a few things I should have gotten at the Auto Parts Store. Coming out of Safeway we noticed the name of the cross street was Vulture Mine Road. Taking that route saved us from driving all the way back into town and also had us back Home in Fifteen Minutes

We got Home just as the Sun was setting so the chores we wanted to do today will have to wait for another day. Besides we’re Retired! We finished the few Leftovers in the Fridge for supper. Thanks for following along, feel free to leave a comment and click on the pictures to enlarge them. Be Safe and Enjoy!

  4. Be sure to take Vulture Mine Road past Safeway and head off in the direction of Vulture Peak. Nice drive and some great boondocking spots out that way. Yes, that Wickenburg downtown museum in bigger than it looks. There are some nice doable scenic desert roads running around the east side of Wickenburg as well. Find McDonalds in Wickenburg's south end and take Constellation Road there's a nice scenic dry camping RV Park on the left across from the horse grounds along the way. Blue Tank Road runs left off Constellation and that was another favorite road for Pheebs and I. When you get to R???? turn left and that takes you back to the north end of Wickenburg. All those roads are doable with your truck.
