Change of Plans and We're Already Here.

Our Location today is Knoxville, Tennessee.
Saturday January 5, 2013.

As those of you that have been reading our blog noted that we were planning on leaving Monday January the 7th for Florida on our first Snowbirding experience. One of the things we have been watching closely was the weather forecast through the region our planned route would be taking us. Since we had everything ready at our end and the forecast was showing a line of cold related weather starting Saturday night through to Monday we thought it was time to hit the road.
The first picture Kathy thought to take of us crossing into Detroit.
We crossed the international border at Detroit before 8:00 and were on our way stopping once for food and fuel along the way. It was a pleasure to see the snow covered landscapes slowly diminishing until they had disappeared from site. The only thing that reminded us of the time of year was the colder temperatures. At least there were water puddles in the parking lot instead of miniature ice rinks.
Heading south off I-75
By 7:00 we made our final stop for the night and slipped into one of the last remaining RV parking spots at the Flying J in Knoxville Tennessee. After having a final snack for the day we returned to the trailer in an attempt to finish organizing what we couldn’t due to the freezing temperatures.
One of the few we visited this day.
By 9:00 we had snuggled exhausted in for our first night of dry camping in the Flying J parking lot. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment.

Krackers

You Might Be a Redneck If

You were ever fired for shooting spitballs.

Our Location today is Alachua, Florida.
Sunday January 6, 2013.

Like I stated in yesterday’s draft we left earlier than expected because of bad weather that was predicted for the I-75 corridor through the mountains in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Still on I-75 Southbound.
Since we were dry docking last night and we weren’t sure the trailer battery would survive the night we only warmed the trailer up and shut the furnace before going to sleep. The RV parking area was clearly marked that the area was not for truck parking but there is no enforcement of that. Around 4:00 I was awakened because I was cold. It turned out that Kathy had rolled herself in the comforter and blankets.
I took the time to check the layout of the fueling depot before returning to the trailer. In the short time I was away a truck had parked next to our trailer and left idling only to wake Kathy. We finally went for breakfast by 5:00 to return by 5:30 only to find the truck still idling. With no way we could sleep we moved to the fueling station and hit the road by 6:00.
The drive was uneventful allowing Kathy to catch a few short naps along the way. She had me taking frequent breaks in an effort to be certain that I wouldn’t fall asleep behind the wheel. We even stopped to top off the fuel before entering Florida. We really made good time getting here. Now we intend to rest and revitalize ourselves for the next few days.
It was less than a mile before entering the sunshine state that we were greeted with Florida’s Liquid Sunshine that lasted for the remainder of the trip.

From what we heard at the office come Tuesday of this week we might have to put up with 80 degree weather. After leaving a snow covered home behind that will be hard to take. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment.

Krackers

Mr. Brown: My wife has one very irritating habit,
she stays up until two or three in the morning.

Mr. White: What is she doing all that time?

Mr. Brown: Waiting for me to come home.
