Improved MiFi In More Ways Then One, Great Lunch and Getting Ready For The Cold Weather.

Our Location today is La Posa South L.T.V.A., Quartzsite, Arizona, U.S.A.

Due to the sudden drop in our temperature last night we actually had to cycle the Furnace before going to bed. Even though we were comfortably snuggled under our warm Winter Sheets we didn’t stick any part of our beings out more than we had to. Sleeping until nearly 8:00 because my sleep had been broken I simply put my Housecoat on and started my morning chores.
That's the Sun breaking over the Cloud Line.
When Kathy came downstairs we had breakfast and talked about what we had to do today. We first had to warm up again as we felt as cold as those walking by bundled up in Parkas, Toques and Gloves. We cycled the Furnace while we drank our Steaming Cups of Coffee/Tea at the Computers trying to get On-Line. Another waste of time!

As I headed upstairs I started opening the remaining Window Shades to let in the Sun’s warmth when I found the source of our cold air. Yesterday when we came Home it was quite hot upstairs so someone opened a Window. Then last night the Shade had been closed without realizing the Window was still open. It’s supposed to be as cold tonight but with the Windows all closed we are nice and toasty.

We were on our way to Blythe California by 10:15 this morning. Just driving through that stretch of mountains on I-10 will calm and excite anyone because of the view. We however have not driven this stretch of road since this past March. Anyone who has driven the Slow Lane in that area should remember how Bone Rattling that road could be. To our surprise and appreciation there was over a Five Mile Stretch beginning east of Dome Rock Road that resurfacing is being done to make it the Smooth Road that it should be.

As we approached Blythe Kathy thought that I’d missed our exit but once we started driving on Hobson Way she knew we were in the right place. We parked in the Ace Hardware Parking Lot and walked the Fifty Feet over to Verizon. It took nearly Twenty Minutes before we were able to explain the problem we were having with our MiFi to one of the Representatives and what Jacob the Tech Coach had suggested needed to be done to fix it. It would take nearly Thirty-Minutes to get the MiFi fixed up with a new SIM Card but that still would not fix the problem of the high Data Usage. That was when we were told we could have an Unlimited Data Plan for a lot less then we are paying. Walking out after an Hour and Twenty Minutes not only was our MiFi working better but it’s now costing us less to operate.
Heading Back.
Since we were using their Parking Lot we went inside Ace Hardware to do some shopping. While I was looking for some Rubber Seals and 12 Volt Outlets, Kathy was still in the Christmas Shopping Mood. This store in Blythe also sells Home Building Supplies so it is quite large. In the time it took to find the two Rubber Seals that I was looking for Kathy had scratched even more Christmas Gifts off our list for next year.
It was past 12:30 when we left Ace but instead of going for lunch we crossed the road to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. Even though I’ve ordered the 12 Volt Plugs from NAPA in Parker I wanted something different back by our chairs. The place was packed but with both Kathy and I searching the shelves we found one that has Two 12 Volt Outlets and Two USB Charge Plugs as well.

It was now past 1:15 and we were getting hungry. As we were looking at all the usual fast foods trying to decide which one to go to we saw a Police Car pull into the parking lot at Rebel Barbecue so that’s where we went. You use a Menu to figure out what you want and then order it at the counter. We thought that it was expensive when we each ordered a Half-Rack of Ribs but when they were delivered to our table we didn’t think we’d eat it all. Remember how I said we were both hungry it wasn’t until we were finished eating that we realized we didn’t get a picture of our meal. They give you Plastic Cutlery but the Meat just falls off the bone. It tasted wonderful and we’ll definitely be back there for Ribs again.

Kathy’s hair is really growing so we drove back to Cutting Edge Hair Salon where we had gotten our best Hair Cuts last winter while in the southwest. Gloria recognized Kathy right away and spent the time it took to trim Kathy’s hair getting caught up on what we’ve been doing. Since my hair hasn’t grown that much I had just stayed in the Truck. When Kathy was finished Gloria even came outside to wave to me and welcomed us back to the area.

It was finally time to head back for Home but with the Repaving also taking place in the eastbound lanes of I-10 the traffic was getting crazy. We exited at Dome Rock Road and drove at a more relaxed speed. We also saw plenty of Boondocking RVs on the BLM Land. We enjoyed it this spring but with our permit we’ll just stay in LTVAs for the winter.

We went in to RV Lifestyles looking for some LED Reading Lights to replace the ones we have at the rear of our trailer. We looked at different ones and were finally about to leave with a print out when we spotted something else. Last winter we used a lot of Propane to run the Fridge, cooking on the Stove but specifically to keep warm running our Furnace. RV Furnaces are very inefficient and exhaust more heat then they pump into an RV. Even though we have a Big Buddy Catalytic Heater it kept setting off our Smoke Alarm if we didn’t have a Window or Vent cracked open.

Before leaving the area last spring we’d inquired at RV Lifestyles about the Hearth Rite Vent Free Blue Flame Space Heater. Since the Winter Temperatures are just about to start we felt this was the perfect time to make this purchase. The cost of Last Year’s Propane was more then today’s investment. This will keep us comfortable without it being a Fire Risk nor will we have to open any vents. The cost should be recovered in less then a year as we can use it back in Ontario as well and we’ll sell our Big Buddy. Now I’ve got another job to do but I don’t mind this one.
Dome Rock Road heading towards Quartzsite.
Another quick stop was made at Loves Truck Stop where we fueled up the Truck as well as getting a couple of Spare Marker/Signal Lamps that we have on the Trailer

We were Home before dark tonight and managed to get a couple of Sunset Pictures. Around 7:30 we each had a bowl of Kathy’s Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup and were more then satisfied. It will be another busy day tomorrow. Thanks for following along, feel free to leave a comment and click on the pictures to enlarge them. Be Safe and Enjoy!

It’s about time.

  1. With the Mr. Heater we leave our tiny kitchen window open 1/2inch smoke alarm right above it. You will still need a window open with the new heater or it will burn up all the oxygen in you trailer, and you end up up with carbon monoxide poisoning, (the silent death). It needs a source of fresh air!
