Exploring Gatlinburg.

Our Location today is Sevierville, Tennessee.

Since the overnight temperature was supposed to drop into the upper 30’s we put both our cube heaters on before going to bed last night. The end result was that with us being toasty warm we actually slept in until 8:30 this morning.
It wasn’t long after breakfast that we headed out the door looking forward to checking out a few adventures that Kathy had been researching. The GPS behaved itself and brought us straight to the Rainforest Zoo but as soon as we were in the parking lot and seeing the size of the building we knew this wasn’t the type of Zoo we were looking for and we left.
Anyone that visits Pigeon Forge knows that at this time of year the town is overflowing with Street Rods, Classics, Antiques, and cars in various forms of restoration or conversion. Driving down the entire length of the Parkway all you see is a mixture of tourists and these older vehicles filling the parking lots.
Our intention was to find a few outlet stores we could spend time looking through and then look at the cars in those parking lots. All that walking really wore us out and we suddenly realized we’d worn off breakfast and it was past lunchtime. Stopping at Shoney’s we ate sensibly and ate a Chicken Salad Croissant before looking at more cars as we were driving out of town.
Our next stop was the Gatlinburg Welcome Center. All the times that we have been to Gatlinburg we never stopped in to check out the Welcome Center before today. It was a mixture of a learning center explaining things found in the area such as animals and plant-life. It also had its own Gift-shop where souvenirs could be purchased and the profits would go to help run the local park services.
Our next stop was back in the town of Gatlinburg. If you recall last night we had gone to see a show by Mentalist Bill Gladwell. During the show we received free tickets for a Comical Magic act for tonight. We only had time to look around a short block near the theater yesterday so today we planned to really look around and get plenty of walking in to boot.
Another thing that happened last night while we were waiting to see Bill Gladwell’s show was we met Darrin and Sulina Heber. We were talking of our travels with our RV and they were taking it all in saying that was what they wanted to do when they retire in six years. We gave them tips that we had learned and the encouragement to follow their dreams to travel. We gave them one of our business cards so they could check out our blog.
Darrin and Sulina Heber in Gatlinburg.
About an hour after we arrived in Gatlinburg this afternoon we once again ran into them. They seemed to be beaming with life and enjoying looking at all the touristy attractions just like we often do. Darrin assured me he’d already checked out the blog and hopes to continue doing so. Sulina said they were attending the Dixie Stampede tonight because they’ll be leaving to go back home soon and Darrin had never been. Like last night it was like we were talking to old friends  hopefully we’ll be seeing each other somewhere down the road. It was nice chatting with them.
Have a safe trip home folks.
We walked around for another two hours going through shop after shop. It was past 5:00 when we realized that after walking up and down the hilly streets of Gatlinburg we had worn off lunch and needed to eat again. We entered the next restaurant we looked at was another Shoney’s. Again the food was great and reasonable.
The show we saw tonight was Comedian Magician Keith Fields. He has only been performing in Gatlinburg for the last three weeks and claims to have been a street performer before this. He kept everyone laughing at his antics the whole time that he was performing feats that kept everyone guessing as to how he was doing his tricks. He involved not only adults but children as well in his tricks making a fun experience for the entire family. His is a show well worth seeing.
Here Keith cuts open a Lemon to retrieve a $50.00 bill he made disappear earlier.

After two busy & fun days like we’ve just had that will be a hard act to follow. Thanks for following along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
