Our Location today is Sevierville, Tennessee.
We were both surprised that we slept like a couple of rocks
last night and if it had rained we didn’t even hear it. This morning we were
both out of bed by 7:00 and once we’d eaten our breakfast everything else was
like a well tune machine where Kathy and I knew what we needed to do so we
could close up the trailer and hit the road.
It was 8:20 when we were pulling off our site at the Reed
Bingham State Park and the temperature was 70 F (21 C). It took another ten
minutes driving through the park before we actually got to the road. We traveled
enjoying the dry but cloudy weather we were getting because that was not what
we’d seen that was heading our way.
Once we were back on I-75 heading North our plan was to get
as far north into Georgia as we could figuring that we’d be delayed by the
weather. After nearly an hour and a half of clear sailing things started to get
blurry. We were driving along looking at cloudy skies and seconds later we
could just make out the taillights on the truck ahead of us. Of course there
were no shoulders on the road to pull over to and if we had gotten to one it
would have been nearly impossible to get back on the road.
The traffic continued to flow at a reduced rate of speed but
the amount of vehicles on the road didn’t diminish. The rain did get quite
intense a few times but everyone just slowed down kept going. Finally once we’d
gotten through Atlanta the rain stopped and the sun actually peeked through the
clouds a few times. We just kept driving thinking that with this slower pace we’d
probably be sleeping at the Flying J in Resaca, Georgia but that didn’t happen.
Shortly after 1:00 we had made our destination for the day after driving
non-stop for 291.7 miles.
When we arrived in Resaca the temperature had dropped to 48
F (9 C). Talk about a shock to the system so we had to get in the trailer to
put on warmer clothes before going in to eat. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch that
included chicken noodle soup to warm up with. It was only 2:00 in the afternoon
by the time we’d finished our meal which we felt was too early for us to stop for
the day. Besides there was a prediction of heavy rain for the upper part of
Georgia for tonight so after topping up with fuel we got back on the road.
The clouds continued between being the thick overcast that
we’d seen most of the morning to lighter cloud coverings. The traffic seemed to
thicken when we shifted from three and four lanes down to two. Finally when we
got on to the I-40/I-75 corridor things got a little interesting because now
there were six lanes of traffic and cars were limited to 65 mph while the
trucks were only allowed 55 mph.
Minutes before 6:00 we were pulling into the River Plantation
RV Resort in Sevierville after having driven an additional 160.7 miles. It was
nearly 7:00 by the time we had set up the trailer and the temperature was back
up to 75 F (24 C). We were too tired to cook so we simply went to Chick-fil-A
for a light supper.
After having driven a total of 452.4 miles today we know we’ll
sleep through any storm that might hit the area tonight. Thanks for following
along and feel free to leave a comment. Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
