Long Distance Diagnosis.

When we woke this morning I already had a plan of what needed to be done. It was only a matter of minutes after we sat at the Computers that I was busy calling Jim at Windsor Gas and Diesel. When you have a Mechanic that you can depend on it’s hard to believe someone that you don’t know. As soon as I told Jim what was happening he asked a few more questions trying to figure out what could be happening from Twenty-Five Hundred Miles away. He also assigned me a task in an effort of eliminating some of the possibilities. How many Mechanics will help you out when they aren’t getting paid for it?

Kathy needed to check one of our accounts and every time we move to a different location the Security System that is in place requires that a new Access Security Code be entered. It frustrates Kathy so she has me get that part taken care of before she finishes her task.

I’m still having problems with my own Computer. After they replaced the Hard-Drive they installed a Free Office Program for me to use. Once you have experience Windows Office this one falls short on quite a few things that it cannot do and one of those things is being able to use our Printer. The Libre Office Program will not communicate with our Printer so what I have to do is to save the File to a Memory Stick, open it on Kathy’s Computer where it will print every time.

The next call happened closer to noon where I spoke to Richard the Mechanic at Vision Ford in Alamogordo New Mexico. He had promised to send some pictures of Parts that were defective when he took our Truck apart back in November. Some of the questions I was asking were given to me by Jim so he could better understand what was done and where the Leak might be.

We had Chicken Noodle Soup, with Cheese Sticks for a side along with a Yogurt Cup and Mandarin Orange for dessert.

After putting on my Coveralls and getting a catch basin I was soon wiggling my way under the Truck. Oil-Plugs on vehicles are normally installed with Fifty PSI of torque. Whoever tightened this plug had it close to a Hundred PSI. When you are in a tight spot like that you don’t want to have to go there too often but this meant I needed to go find different Tools to avoid damaging the Plug then wiggle back in again.

Once I had the different Tool I was able to loosen the Plug enough to let the Motor Oil seep past. If there had been Coolant in the Motor Oil it would have come out first but the only thing that came out was Motor Oil. That is a good thing.

The next thing that had to be done was to set a Blue Tarp under the front of the Truck with rocks to hold it down. Then I added Coolant to the level that Ernesto the Mechanic in Yuma had done. Modern Engines tend to leak when they are cooled down compared to Older Engines. Another thing that Modern Engines have is more coolers and our Truck has Seven Coolers. Now hopefully I should find a Puddle of Coolant under the Truck in the morning and this will help to locate where the leak is coming from.

For supper Kathy made some Perogies and sauteed some sliced Ham then topped it off with a dish of Jell-O for dessert. Tomorrow we hope to have a better idea where all that Coolant is going. Thank you for following along and feel free to leave a comment.
